Yeah as Neon said..Bose only brand only lah. But me not ICE person. Sound proofing was needed because of an irritating rattle inside the door. Now reduce, but at times still there :(

Neon you want to be first few to drive the 8 mah so must pay more lor hahahah. Yep, the first few cars are definately 10K more.

rattle sound? Have you got them (SinKit people) to see what is loose when the open the front door to put the accumat?
I did both the front door (1 layer) and the side 2 little door (2 layers), now the door is solid and pretty quiet inside. Less vibration too ... sound is pretty compact and firm ...better now..or should say much better :D

Neon 12-15-2004 09:01 PM

Yalor. Some paid about 155K. Mine was 150K.

I got mine sound proofed to get better mid bass from 8inch speakers in front. Only set back is the car is heavier. So, no DRAG race for me!! Confirm disadvantaged....

:)

Hehheh mine was below 150K, but not much lah...thanks to the delay in shipment :p

Well debug before, nothing loose...I think it is the upper portion of the door...need to do operation again :(

watoke 12-16-2004 04:24 AM

Yeah, you got the point !
At least some consolation to me :D kekeke

1. When bent manually either by some itchy hand or a slight accidental knock when someone passes you, depending on the mechanism, it may break. -> $$$ I'll rather not have it even if its a freebie. :o

2. If you take a good look from the front of the car, it there's very little difference between the overall width of the car with mirrors retracted and extended. Usually when accidental scrapes happen while people walk pass your car, it happens below hip level. (carrying things, swinging hands etc.) Looks like you don't need it, even if its a freebie. :o

I'm glad mine don't come with electric folding mirrors. :) I can bend the mirrors in myself when parking in a tight spot on the drivers side just to let me pass thru.

Hehe or i can just depress a button in advance to let me walk through...

Yeah they really are crap...just look at the tiny magnet driving the 6x9's in the rear. I'd be interested in upgrading to Alpines or the like, but then might need an extra amp to make it worthwhile...anyone know how much power is supplied from the in-unit amp?

Manwe 12-17-2004 03:21 AM

Talking abt sound proofing, what i did was sound proof the boot(cos of my 2 10" sub) and the front. The rear doors scattered... cut some cost and you cannot tell the diff. In fact, if you really really wanna save money, just install without sound proofing. Listen to it first. If it rattles, then do that part. If it doesn't, don't give a damn.

Manwe 12-17-2004 03:26 AM

Oh yea, for those mm owners, don't be too upset about not getting the bose speakers. They have high end and low end type and those meant to come stock with cars(read lower than low end). I think what Neon mentioned abt made in indonesia tell you quite a bit.

If you are really stingy and just want some improvement, I suggest just adding a sub and it would sound much better. If you are not the base base person, maybe you might wanna wire some tweeters for the high freq. Alternatively, go for 2nd hand equipment, save you lots of money and hey.... sounds great still ;)

sgrenesis 12-17-2004 10:15 AM

maybe should do a meet up for audio buffs. want to hear the difference between stock and mod. can consider too. hee :D

EBS 12-17-2004 10:59 AM

ICE meetup sure jialat. After u hear some bro's setup, u find ur budget get extended leh.... veri scared.

Genesis 12-17-2004 01:40 PM

EBS, sgren, what about us guys who just want to upgrade the stock speaker system? Neon, Wanwe and the like have an awesome ICE...they have a boot based 12" woofer system and loaded amps. Simple guys like me, Genesis just want replace the stock speakers, but is the in-unit amp powerful enuff to support?

EBS 12-17-2004 02:34 PM

Yes. I did some research when I got my car. No prob changing the woofers and tweeters. U can even put a small sub without breaking the bank. It will definitely sound better than stock.
If u are on a shoestring, maybe add an 8" sub and the sound improves. In my case, I am saving money for some other stuff (TBA  ) so holding tight to my wallet at the moment :D :D

Ok EBS bro, in my case it's not about dollars...it's about desires...dollars is not the issue. I want a better soundstage in my 8 vs. stock, but don't want the huge 10" woofers in my boot, just want more "accurate" local speakers in the present 6x9 cut-outs...thoughts?

shouldnt be that bad that it will cause a heartattack but hey, I'm willing to take my chances. hee...

EBS 12-18-2004 11:03 AM

Hi

Then it is easy. Lots of good woofers around, add a pair of tweeters and get a moderate amp (will not take up much space). Simple setup and sound good. I'm sure Manwe Bro can recommend some nice speakers. Amp can source for trade in unit cos u won't need super amps as there is no sub to drive.
My thoughts.

Manwe 12-18-2004 11:55 AM

If you are only adding a single sub unit then you don't have to worry abt the amp as you don't need such a high current to drive the speakers. For those who dunno how amps work, basically the speakers are just magnets and they rely on current supplied to it to cause a force(remember your physics?). What the amp does is magnify the current so that it is big enough to drive the speakers(small current produce very little force and sound). Good amps will have better signal to noise ratio when magnified(yes noises get magnified together with audio signal too) but if your speakers are not top grade, then you do not need very good amps as you will not hear the diff(cos the speaker is not sharp enough to cut off the noise). So do not get speakers too good for your amp nor get amps too good for your speakers or you will be wasting money. Another thing, do not get very very high end product unless you want to change the stock Head Unit or it will not give you optimum quality(another waste of money cos you cannot hear the diff).

Manwe 12-18-2004 11:56 AM

By the way, different speakers have different qualities and is suited for different kind of music. You have to tell me what kind of music you normally listen to be4 I can give recommendation.

Neon 12-18-2004 01:14 PM

All da bros in the house, got questions for audio stuff?

Politely PM Renesis8 hopefully he's free to advise. He is the GOD (IMO) in this... SAM is the name...

Genesis, if u want to hear good sound staging, u should check out NO.12's setup (next meet i guess :D). Cream De La Creme.... done by SAM of course...:P

Cheers

Manwe 12-18-2004 11:24 PM

Neon,

Maybe you should arrange a ICE appreciation outing... it should attract quite a few ppl

Neon 12-19-2004 02:14 AM

Haha. Sure..... I will probably fix one next month...

Emphasis would be ricther busting!! -_-)V

Genesis 12-19-2004 04:26 AM

Thanks guys for all the tips to my questions....much appreciated.

wootwoot 12-19-2004 04:56 AM

hi have a qns here... i believe a 15" sub-woofer can fit into your booot correct? so can a 12" the maximum here to get into your boot or can it be bigger? with a 15" & a small box is quite stupid right? (correct me if i'm wrong)

watoke 12-19-2004 08:57 AM

Woot,

15" is too big for our 8 boot, if it is standing and also in a small little box. But again, if you willing to compromise on the space, lying down will enable you a 15"and a bigger box.
Honestly speaking, 12" is really good enuff with a good 1/2 channel amps to drive it.
I got my 8 from MM, i remove all front and rear speakers. Change to front 6.5" components speakers & rear 6.5" coxial speaker, drive by a 4 channel amps, and 2 channels amps drives a 12" Sub.
Overall, definitely better than the pathetic MM original oval shape speakers.

Manwe 12-19-2004 01:39 PM

Infact, I think 10" is enough. Have a pair. Better ;)

I was trying to squeeze in 2 12" but decided against it in the end. Don't want my boot to fall off...

2 12" or 10" with box can fit snugly in the small odd shape place in the deep end of the boot.
