rx8 auto vibration

can anyone recommend any good place to have my car checked up. it vibrates a hell alot when the engine is not warmed up.....

NG_LEON 12-30-2005 01:04 AM

First check your idling speed, typically if the engine vibrates is due to low idling speed..You might want to then go to your work shop to get it tuned higher.
If this is not the problem, u can go to Garage R at Tagore lane as they are good with 8...

i noticed that my idlin speed drops when it starts to vibrate or either it drops thats why it vibrates. after driving around town for awhile, the vibration stops and it will idle steadily. and i noticed that the fan turns on and off periodically. is that normal? thanks for the recommendation!

How to tune? Lots of mechanics say the idle rpm can't be adjusted...

Most of the time when it vibrates harder and the idling moves is due to the air con fan kicking in and its normal for it to do so.

Changed anything?

rayshaw23 12-31-2005 12:49 AM

stock to the bone. heh....
will try MBM. hope it works.... i guess its only my car thats giving me this problem =(

Emperor 01-01-2006 10:21 AM

MBM. They quoted me $4k for a replica Ings kit and later "reduced" it to 3.2k. If i took it up i might as well change my name to robert .

If you really must go there to do anything; remember to ask them not to wash your car. They just dump the car sponge on the floor; my car got its first swirl marks there. I took great car in changing my sponge every couple wash and it still got swirls thanks to them.

Work wise; gets job done but not very pro imo.

I wouldn't pay $3.2K for a replica Ings kit. Pay so much, might as well get the original one.

WooHoo! its massage-no-more.... at least for the time being. went to MBM to solve my problem and i tink they have done a pretty good job, well, at least it aint vibrating everytime i stop at the traffic junction.

8citing 01-10-2006 12:35 AM

so what did they do?

rayshaw23 01-10-2006 01:14 AM

okay, they seem to have done this before. the mechanic told me that there is this thing sticking out of the engine mounting that is hitting against something and that cause the vibration. so what they did was to cut it off. they said it was useless anyway. they also said that if you want that thing to come back, i just have to order another new engine mount and they thing will come back together with the new engine mount.

do i sound coherent?

No you don't. In fact, you might have found the miracle cure for the vibration problem that is affecting quite a number of us here. How long does it take to "cut" that unwanted part? And which part is it by the way?

rayshaw23 01-10-2006 05:11 AM

well, it took me just one afternoon. went there around 1. got it back around 6. the mechanic says it is part of the engine mount. but hey, i know some of u guys might want to try it out. i just want to say that it is at ur own risk kay? it works for me but it might not work for u. i did mine at MBM and on top of that, since my servicing was approching, i did some servicing too like changing of engine oil and stuffs. so.... try at ur own risk ya? and good luck!

Neon 01-10-2006 05:17 AM

Hmmm, many of us have tried changing the engine mounts which come in a pair. Initial result was no more vibration but after a couple months the vibration is back but not so bad as the original that came with the car.

Looking at the mounts, they do not have anything sticking out leh...Pretty solid shape like a small pear....

I am quite lost here......Anyone wif me? Smell something fishy.....

Next quesiton, did they charge u anything for cutting off the thing sticking out?

8citing 01-10-2006 07:12 AM

must potong?!

Like what neon said...the mounts got nothing sticking out leh....
