Rusted rear rotors
#3
I am also very "disturbed" by the rust on the brake rotors :p The rust really stick out like a sore thumb... I was going thru the forum and found that some people actually paint their rotor with a high temp paint. Hence, when I was at Monster Garage last week, I asked if they can do that for me. Unfortunately they don't do that. I guess I can try to paint it myself (w/o removing the brake caliper) or I can change to a new set of brake rotor + caliper.
Still thinking abt it, but any other ideas?

taking off the calipers is very easy. and all u need is, like u said, the high temp paint from you local autozone or whatever and just spray that on there. should be very easy as i took off my calipers to paint them ( i didn't remove them completly i just slid them off the rotor and let them hang from the cables) but note: that will only help u with the middle part of the rotor and not the part where the pads use to brake. if you want that rust gone and u dont want it coming back then you will need to buy new rotors that are rust-proof
if you dont thnk u can handle it....ill post a DIY piece on it.....once i find my damn key to take off my rims

How did you ask for it? They replaced my front rotor when i complain about the vibration it is causing me when i am braking at high speed. ( 80km/h above)
Ur first major servicing? You mean the 40k servicing? How much did you pay for it?

i think yeah, it was 40k service and besides it was coming to the end of my 3 year warranty (low mileage, keke... and i'm looking to sell!) so i asked them to do a thorough check for me.
i didn't ask for it, in fact, they just called me up and told me they wld be replacing my radiator and rear rotors FOC but i have to pay for the hoses and the brakepads. I had no complaints about the parts and thought they were working fine. maybe it was just a gimmick to make me pay for the hoses and pads :P
ps. can't really remember the price as it was 3 months ago... but the hoses i think $120-150 and the pads $200?

My 40k is also coming and my warranty is in Oct. hahahah...... i think we somehow have very similar mileage.
They change front rotor for me during the 35k servicing. They told me 40k is about 400+. I change the brand pad for $150 for the front when they change the rotor for me.

I thought of replacing it with aftermarket one but seems unavailable.

I was looking at the aftermarket brake kits, but from the few cars i saw at MR, they will rust too so I'm not sure if it is the end all solution. I'm sure MR can replace your rotor with original ones from Mazda. Maybe we can paint them before they put them on.

well im still just goin to keep mine and just paint them i mean it will only take me about 5 min to take all the rims off and like 5 to paint them and the paint is cheap. i painted my caliper with the same paint and they havent flaked or anything. it has been only about 3k miles since i painted them but still lookin shiny new

lol yeaaaa pink would be....cool....lol jk but u obviously cant paint the whole thing im talking bout just the middle part that isnt used for braking. as well as any other part that doesnt come in contact with the brake pads. u can paint it with the high temp paint. wat do u have to lose? just try it...its cheap and easy if u have the right lift equip.

Haven't seen any rotors that doesn't rust yet... maybe i suah ku, but I guess with the humidity in our Island, RUST RULES!

to bring back an old thread. i actualy paint my rear rotors today (didnt have enough time to do front) and they look incredible im uploading pics right now to show the difference. as far as flaking goes....i dont think it will as my calipers were painted with up to 500 degrees and they havent flaked. the yellow has just faded a little. but i used up 1200 degree paint on the rotors. ill let you know after time how it worked out.
ok here is a picture of the (front) rotor with rust.
heres a picture of my (rear) rotor after being painted.
and PLEASE NOTE that i painted where the pad makes contact with the rotor because taping it was a hassle so all the paint where the pads meet the rotor has not fully come off. once all of it does it will be like the original silver look.
