Rounding Request on 6th January 2006

Dear members of Singapore RX8 club,

It has been darn long since we last went rounding. Every rounding trip "held" last yr has been fun and those who took part were hooked to it, esp the "talk nonsense session" on the radios. There have been numerous requests to hold rounding sessions again. Seeing that the petrol prices has dropped and to kickstart a brand new year, we shall (hopefully) do one tomorrow.

However, i do urge all members to be proactive. A few regulars have been organising where to go, wat to do, until we had run out of ideas. And since the forum has been quite dead recently, we hope for this round, you guys will come out with the route. The ending part is flexible.

If no one posts or no one suggests anything then we shall juz meet at kallang, 10pm, standard. But dun hope for miracles to happen if no one suggests anything. I wun be suggesting where to go anymore. The club is big enough not to rely on me or a few personnels only.

Another point to note is: the weekly meets have been rather monotonous of late. From 2006 onwards, the meets will be held fortnightly instead. The weekly meets can be held impromptu amongst ownselves or u can adhoc and post on the forum to garner interests. Again, I need not be the main man to organise.... anyone can do it.

WHat we normally do at meetups:
1. talk talk, stand stand, look look
2. supper
3. marina south gaming
4. rare roundings

Suggestions to roundings, meetups and any constructive posts are appreciated. Criticisms are also accepted. This is a free-to-air forum. But do keep close to the topics. PLS KEEP THE POSTS COMING IN. Good chance to increase ur post counts, but pls, no lame postings hor.

Anyone can post anything. Lets look at mazdaclub. The postings are so much in a day until its pretty hard to keep track of any threads. Compared to the rx8 club forum, the same old 1 or 2 threads will stay up there for donkey years. If this goes on, how do we justify the formation of our own .sg forum? If no one posts regularly, then theres really no point in coming out with our own forum. Dun just read, POST! Tok ****, tok nonsense oso no problem, as long as its not too lame.

PS: Newcomers can still give me ur numbers if u dun mind. Sometimes adhoc meets are via sms.

This is the new year, let's hope we can see some progress to the rx8 club. Old birds, pls keep contributing and turn up pls. Newbies, all are welcomed. No one will be ostracised, whether u go for unorthodox mods or the authentic master, everyone is welcomed. Club decals, road tax disc decals, new rx8 club tees, rx8club cashcard, everything is in the pipeline. But we juz dun have the encouraging and positive support from all.

CHeers
Ur unofficial rx8club singapore PR man

Hallo, happy new year to all the rx8 owners.

Kudos to the PR manager for taking the time to write a welcome speech for the first official nite meet in 2006.

suggestions for rounding routes:

1) straight up to changi village for dessert,
2) seletar dam for chit chat then to jalan kayu for supper/kopi. (though i wonder how many will hit the humps. )
3) any new place to eat n ample parking space.

well, i dun drive n do not know of new/nice places until pple intro... so guys who hav new places to recommend, do support this thread.

Cheers,
Agnes

Hmmm... i do know of a few places to eat but parking wise.... seems to be the toughest problem.
As for planning of the route we should discuss that when we reach kallang. Hope that everyone will cooperate and arrive on time. probably wait for a while before moving off just in case if there are any late comers, also to preview Emperor's new kit and new mods by the members. The route shall not to discussed here for reasons beyond explanation. (:D hee.... kidding la... you never know where "big brother" lurks)

Anyhow please send in your suggestions so that we can have a bigger range of routes and places to choose from, preferably "bodykit" friendly . Heh heh... the regulars will know why.

Actually some of the members were there to have dinner one night and said place was not too bad except that one member got stuck at the side skirts because of the hump.

Quick question: What is "rounding"? Judging on the suggestions, it more like a tour of food courts or places to eat. Makan Sutra like? Then, should it be Madza Sutra?

Surely there must be some sort of activity that can be more adrenaline enhancing than doing a tour of eating places? If all the activityies you do with the wife or girlfriend is go out and eat... and then a couple of months or years later, you complain that she is boring?....

No point getting a sports car and then just drive around just to eat? Unless thats what it was initially intended for? I remember that someone actually said that owning a RX-8 was a reflection of a particular lifestyle... is this it?

10-60????????? y such a weird rating???? If i'm not wrong shld be very thick oil...

rotary engine oil is normally 10-40 or 0-30. If u wan mineral oil, then 20-50 shell helix.

adrenaline pumping? Do u noe this is an island called singapore? wat do u wan to do in this country (or island to be precise) which is full of speedtraps, full of tps, full of fines, full of hidden cameras?

Take note we do not have full of points, to be exact, only 24. Some only has 12. How much adrenaline pumps do u wan?

The fact that a lot of pple request for "rounding" shows that how "boring" it can be in this miserable country........

0w-30 seems alittle too thin for our car. I felt i was pushing it by using 10w-40 already.

I think our meet-ups ok what. Our club is smaller than most other clubs so cannot compare. The 8 is not exactly a very common car and not all drivers join this forum. So cannot expect huge turnouts like mazda club.

In fact i think small is quite good. Like my friend who drives a vios says "Sian to attend meet-ups when there are so many members and you never ever see the same face, let alone build friendship or rapport"

What you say is true that people seldom post on this forum. Mosts forums i join usually have quite active members who posts regularly.

Anyway whats so wrong with small turnouts at meet-ups. We are a unique bunch.

BTW Ivan, you have been doing a great job as our PR man and i am sure we all appreciate that.

theres nothing wrong abt small turnouts. But its always the few regulars that urn up. If thats the case we might as well meet among ourselves. That is the point i'm trying to put across u see....

0-30W is actually suitable for our car. In fact 0-30W is more for performance car which our car belongs to, rather than the normal saloon. a few of the guys are running on 0-30W n i tink its performing well.

I read the forum a lot and learn a lot out from it and I must say the sharing part and the product knolwedge really get to know my ride better.

Due to my job and a lot of oversea trips I am unable to attend all these meeting. Let me tell you I rather doing something I enjoy the most than doing something as my second priority. One of my resolution for this year is to at least turn up for meetup once a month and I will keep my promise here.

Going Thailand this afternoon so I have 3 more Fridays for this month. But I will die die keep my momentum going ....

Need to thanks to everyone put the effort and contribution for the past year.

Happy new year !

Yo dude, i think that 60 is a tad too thick for our engine but as long as someone has tried it before and there are no issues (and hopefully none in the future) then should be ok to use.

There are actually rotary specific engine oil out there if you are looking at a wider range that is available here like,

- (R.E. superG oil) by R.E. Amemiya
- (Trust Rotary oil) by Trust
- HKS rotary oil
- RE (Racing Energy) oil by R-Magic ( hope to get a chance to try it one day,heh heh... maybe today is a good day. This grade of oil is like bird nest or maybe..... its just the price )

I thought only 60 weight oil is for old diesel engines. :>

Lets say you use 60 oil now, years down the road when the engine tolerances become wider; where to find a thicker oil?

Thick oil will slightly increase fc and engine response.
