Cool Recommended PIs for RX8?

Hey folks....

I have seen the RX-8, and it is a very attractive potential buy for me. Just considering between the Integra Type R and the RX-8. Any comments to help me decide?

So any good PIs with reliable workshop backups to recommend? I have heard some horror stories of deals gone wrong, and a bit worried in selecting to buy from which PI...

In addition, if u guys can provide me an approcimation of price u paid for, so I know if I am getting ripped off or not..

Hi, I presume you are from Singapore as well? Welcome to the forum.

I bought mine from Garage R, and they have their workshop to back up service (and mods too). So far, extremely pleased with the service from them. No unexpected delays, additional costs etc. If all goes well with LTA, my car will be on the road next week - first 2 in Spore! :D

If you are also considering the Integra Type R, I presume you will be more interested in the 210bhp version (from a pure price consideration). I think thats selling for abt $130k to $135k on the road. I paid $155k for my type S, with a number of options thrown in like factory leather, 6 cd changer, side airbags and water repellant glass.

The ITR is a nice car, but pretty raw - noisy, harsh ride etc but wonderful engine and chassis.

RX8 has much more class, much sexier, way better interior quality, a rotary engine thats smooooth, but heavier fuel consumption.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am indeed from Singapore. After doing much more reading and research, my liking has leaned towards the RX8. I owned an ITR when I was in Australia a couple of years back, and that would be the last generation ITR. So, I thought, why not try something new.....

Actually, I think I will choose the type S model like u did, and those options do sound nice, especially the leather seats. A couple of questions...firstly, is the leather seats 2 tone or single colour? Secondly, what is the warranty like? 1 yr or 2 yrs?

Finally, does the type S model look the same exterior wise? Any additional spoilers or such?

Cheers.

Hi Sleeper,

You can choose the leather seat... red/black, black/black, brown/black.

I also went for the Type S, but only the cloth seat I guess Fab 8 will be one of the first Type S on the road. Mine will be making the journey across the ocean this weekend. Hopefully can get it registered by last week of August.

Anyway, heard there is a 2 months waiting time...but some PIs got some cars in without firm bookings from customer. Thus do your research ard....

As for warrenty, I am buying a parts warrenty insurance on top of my car insurance.....

Hope this helps...

Just feard from my dealer this afternoon that they will have two type S coming in next week, one silver and the other white. Both with cloth seats but has side airbags and 9 speaker Bose 6 cd changer. Both available... Another type S, yellow with black/grey leather due in end of the month, also available. Sounds tempting? :D

Garage R is giving me a 1 yr / 20,000 km warranty. Happy hunting, man!

Oh yeah, when shopping around, ask them about the rear glass, where they are from and whether they have all the necessary paperwork (including a vehicle inspection cert from Japan) to clear with LTA. Otherwise, you may end up waiting for quite a while before you get the car on the road...

Why do you have to change the rear glass in Singapore?

The RX-8 we get here are the Japanese domestic models, brought in by parallel importers who got the cars from the dealerships in Japan ie not direct from Mazda Japan.

The JDMs come with standard heavily tinted rear glass which is not allowed by the Singapore Land Transport Authority. Thus the importers have to source for the clear glass before the car can be registered. Interestingly, they couldn't get the glass from Mazda Japan as these parts are not sold locally, so the glass that I'm getting is from Mazda USA!

Thanks for all the valuable info provided. Like they say...a well informed buyer makes a good buyer... Garage R sounds good...I may check them out.

However, I am looking for a type S in red or blue, with red/black leather combo....which means that I may end up waiting longer if I get it from them. But I rather wait than compromise on my choice of specs/colours. Also, I will keep the rear glass issue in mind...

cheers.

Hi Sleeper,

Good to hear another RX8 owner add on to the list. FYI, I've got mine from Hua Yang which I know the manager incharge & manage to squeeze them for a 3 yrs warranty. Service will be backed up by their own workshop TG (specialising in Rotary Engines).

Hope this helps you.

All RX8 bros

Seems that the time is near, my PI just call to get IC from me to register my COE, seems that the glass had arrived or arriving very soon as they seems to have confidence that my car will be register next week. Cant wait!!!!

Sleeper, bought mine type S from Eurospeed but i think they had sold out their stock, it would seems that only garage R has new stock now, from the net, it would seems that there is a overbooking of the RX8 worldwide and that is why if u will to indent now, it would take about 2 to 3 months. good luck with your buy. mine comes with 2 years warranty.

Hi Fab8,

According to PI, it should be next week before they have ready COE for me & my pal. I hope the glass tingy is settled by early next week. If not, it seems all PI are just pushing their luck.

By the way, did you get the Mazdaspeed spoiler (Aero Style). My side are having 1 Silver (mine) & 1 Black (my pal), both comes with the Mazdaspeed spoiler.

Are you going to change your RIM?

P/S: I'm driving my PI nuts....pushing them really hard

dont think that PI this time are trying their luck, it seems that they have tested the glasses and found them to be 50% which is legal by LTA standards.

think the glasses are here already, most of the cars should be out be next week, most probably we can have our first meet next sat!!!! (finger cross)

I've gotten my COE and registration number. My glass is already changed to the clear ones.

I'm not getting the spoiler, and will be keeping my stock rims (unless someone makes me a good offer...) WHat abt you, changing the rims? Which design do you have in mind?

I will keep the glass clear. Too much trouble to tint the car again after getting rid of the rear tinted glass...:D

Spyder766, you may want to ask your dealer whether they have actually brought the glass in to LTA to approve... knowing LTA, own testing will not suffice. FYI, my dealer did bring the original tinted glass in to LTA but they failed it...

Hi 2F2F,
What's the full name of this HY's workshop 'TG' and you mentioned that they are specialist with rotary engines because you hear about them (as in a popular workshop in the market) or because HY told you so. Just curious, Thanks.

ps have sent you a PM.

Hi Fab 8 and all Singapore friend !

I was interesting and read the your post, about the tinted rear glass and the clear rear glass.
I thought that the rear glass of this car had to be clear glass at first.
Because, I thought that clear glass was suitable to the "sports car".
I was disappointed when a rear glass became the tinted glass, Before delivered my RX-8 to me.

After delivered I saw and owns it, I thought "Ummm...that's NO BAD". :D
I love my RX-8's tinted rear glass very well, now.
But I want to see RX-8 with clear rear glass very much.

When you received it, You have to make post and show me and all Japanese RX-8 owners!!

thanks for read
EAST MOON

PS: called in Singapore the "tinted glass", It is called the "smoked glass" in Japan.

Hi EAST MOON,

I just saw my car yesterday with the clear glass fitted, and its quite ok. But I still prefer the tinted or smoked glass...

Will post pictures when I get the car. :D

Cheers
