PI or Mazda Singapore

Dear All,

I am thinking of purchasing a sports car and obviously RX8 is high on my list. Just like to check where should I get the RX8 from, PI or Mazda Singapore? I think the price difference is about S$10-15K. If PI, any PI with good aftersales service and reliable workshop? Thanks in advance for anyone's advice! Cheers

The only question is whether you want to drive manual or auto. Mazda Singapore sells manual only and PI auto only so it is a no-brainer once you decide which way to go.

As for PI, Garage R is "supposedly" good but they charge a higher price. Also, they stopped bringing in RX8 for a while but heard that they may restart. Other bros with special relation with the bosses *winks* may be able to advise better...

Quick correction: You can get a 5speed manual from a PI -- same price as a auto. As for the price diff between a PI and MM, its more in the range of $25+k.

Forgot abt that :p But the last I checked, no PI carries ready stock for the 5 spd manual. Too low demand was the reason. It's a 3 month wait for it to come from Japan...

Nah, sorry to hear of your problem. I was really "upset" abt my PI delivering my car to me 2 weeks after COE bidding so I imagine a 2 month wait... Have you already got your COE? They usually don't bid for the COE until the car is in stock, or if they're expecting a shipment that is on the way. That's usually a good gauge when you'll get your car.

Hi Cal,to be very honest to you,I pay for a high Price at $103k and loan very low. After 2 wk I have sign on the doted line the price keep dropping and I didn't make noise to the PI,I was promise delivery in mid Nov' 05,during tat time when I sign the sales agreement the COE given is confirm at around 14k plus so COE is not the issue thank you very much for feeling my point.

$103k is not high... Those who bought 3 months before you did paid 10k more :P

But did you check if a COE is secured in your name? Having a confirmed COE on sales agreement is one thing. Having the PI bid the COE with your NRIC number is the more impt gauge. Think there is a 3 (or 6) month expiry so PIs will not bid until they have the stock. The way you put it, it sounds as if your PI is still waiting for the shipment to come in...

Hi Cal,is really a damn long story, when I sign the agreement for my 8 it was next to me in the showroom and the salesman say is my the only things is have to wait for my 50k loan from UOB Bank or any other bank happy like **** , to me any is fine, cos during the point of time of loan there is offer from a few bank on cash rebate which is 5% back to customer if only you register your car b4 31/12/05,which **** I miss the boat and is not my fault, but nvm I never make noise so they ******* take me for granted this was b4 my loan .After 2wks loan approve around 23/11/05 they tell me the car have been sold to another customer now you see the picture and I still never make a big deal out of it,cos buy car ma must be happy rite ,anyway I was promise a high COE on open Cat. As for the shipment it came in on31/11/05 was given my engine. no and chass no. and the told me custom is secoming, I also don't known what the **** is secoming and later LTA delay alot of story, wait long weekend and so for anyway I will be posting all the encounter after I have see my PI this evening 06/01/06, so that new PI auto8 buyer will not fall into their trip.Ya Please hor not all PI are bad.Just have to be very careful anyway this is my 1st and ******* last time I will buy for PI.I really cannot help it cos MM don't bring in auto ,I did went to MM and told them that I am willing to pay 20k higher but they turn me down, but they good poit is the salesgal there is very helpful and did really when to talk to the boss ,but what is the point MM dun wan to bring in.Anyway will post my story whole story the true nothing but the true I swear

After so many storys I guess u have your answers now.

Buying from MM is not a bad ideal even if it cost abit more. cos I had good experience with them (while some has bad ones with MM)

My experience is . I left my car untouch for 2 mths and cant start the car.
So call for a Tow truck. and found out that the batt is dead and ecu when blank, and furthur more when the batt is low I try to start the car a few times and damage the spark plugs.

So they recharge my batt , flash and resett the ecu can a new set of spark plugs.
GUESS what???

FREE.... no need to pay a single cents...

If theres not warranty or warranty is over , the resetting of ecu will cost around S$500 and spark plugs another $80-100, and tow truck $50.

So its your call MM warranty 3 years and PI 1 year

I second Morgan's views, pay a bit more to MM and you need not worry for
at least 3yrs. Cheers !

I agree with Morgan. Get the UK spec from MM instead of the JDM from PI. More reliable (but not fail proof) source. Upon comparison, it has a better undercoat, it comes with 2 oil-coolers pre-installed instead of 1. You need this. Not to mention other niggles like radio and an English manual...

Oh yeah Morgan, EACH spark plug (quoted Denso Iridium Racing or NGK Racing) cost 60SGD. That's 240SGD you saved.

Anything is possible, but what are you trying to achieve? There is a cost to everything you do and I'm not just talking about monetarily.

Unfortunately, I won't know everything that you'll do...
As I said, what are you trying to achieve?
It's not just about rotary cars... how would you perform if you had a brain transplant?

This is a good question...there are minor chassis (mostly aesthetic) differences between the 6MT FE32 and SE3P, our upgrade parts are mostly compatible, but what's the situation with the ECU? Can one be flashed into "thinking" it's one or the other? I guess the various engine sensors like air etc would have to be replaced/modified.

Morgan...I always unhook my batt terminals (negative first, then positive) when I go on an extended trip and my car will be unused for a few weeks or more (plus I add a bit more air in my tyres....they should be just right when I return). Then I hook the terminals back up when I return (positive first, then negative).

Thing about the 8, I was away all of last month, when I came home early this month I hooked up my batt, started the car first crank and found the traction control light on. It stayed on for the whole day, then went off the next day and hasn't been on since....?

I'm the sequential post ***** on this thread , but I was at GR today and they have two very nice 6MT Shinka's on the lot (special edition), both "off-red" colour and JDM spec (SE3P) at 250 bhp.
