PI and have steering rack problems?

Post here if you bought your car from PI and hace steering rack problems; i.e. steering turns by itself or vibrates esp when cold.

I got mine from Vincar in Aug 05 4AT and have the said problems. About 40k done.

Strange. The poll says 2 MM cars have problems but seems like more than 2 MM guys posted replies they had problem but MM fixed it. 5 PI cars have problems but no one posted details? Huh??

didnt u test drive the car before you bought it? Which PI was it? It cost about $2k alone for the part alone?

I also have this problem though it doesn't happen to me every morning. No way to test this i guess cos it only happens in the morning or intermittently like mine.

I've actually learnt to live with it by moving off very slowly in case i move off too quickly to realise the steering response is tardy n bang into the something. Another trick is just to turn the steering from 12 o' clock position to 4 n back to 12 before moving off to ensure there's no vibration n u r ready to go. If not, just wait for 3 to 5 secs n the vibration will just go away.

Other than the occasional seconds of inconvenience in the morning, i've yet to find a reason to justify the cost to fix this issue as i'm led to believe that it will just return in due course, just like the engine mounting. Having said that, i'm willing to spend some money to replace engine mounting when the vibration is getting out of hand cos at least that money will serve me at least 30 mins per day instead of just 5 secs

Trust me, it starts out as occasional once every few days and only on cold starts in the morning but it will progress to every day and even on a hot day with engine running while driving. You will have to fix it eventually... it's inevitable once the steering rack starts to go nuts. When to fix it depends on how much you can take before your own safety (or the safety of other unaware drivers) becomes a concern.

Had this problem. It's fixed and there is a TSB for a wire overlay repair. Trust me it will get worse very very very worse...

Sounds like i better start saving up for the replacement... how much is the steering rack inclusive of installation at MG?

Sure, it could always be better, but actually it's not too bad for a high peformance vehicle. Mine was changed just under 2.5 years since new. Personal guess is steering rack problem most due to the heat of the rotary engine, so cooling mods are important too. Just my guess.

it was nvr more than 2k, but close enuf. tell me who quote u, i go f**k him.

To anyone who wans to fix it outside, pls note that u need the factory IDS system to do setting and alignment ater fixing, if not, ur left urn cld be tighter or looser than ur right turn.....

of cos when i said this, obviously MG has the IDS system, besides Mazda Motors. And i dare proudly say MG is the only one besides Mazda motors that has this system in singapore.
