you guys should try to learn  dapat mag-tagalog din tayo dito sa Philippines thread hehe

btw, grew up in PH and migrated here in hawaii with the whole family 4 years ago.

d j 01-24-2008 02:39 PM

madalil lng naman matuto basta laging nagagamit... that's why we speak tagalog at home, specially to the kids... that way, they will maintain their proficiency.

btw, sino malapit sa paranaque? I might get a set of P45R's (17X9 in hyperblack) from Rota for my daily driver (so I can leave my track tires on the NT03+M's)... I heard it's a lot cheaper down there. I'll as my sister to pick up a set when she flies home this March/April.

Mikeluvs8 01-24-2008 03:01 PM

See I Cant Read That!!! Lol

Tutuo yan. Ako nahihirapan lang sa spelling. I was born and raised in Manila, moved here when I was 9. It's great for the kids because research have shown that kids who grow up speaking more than 1 language do well in school. Regarding those wheels, I don't know if I'd trust anything from the Philippines these days. You can never know where it came from or even if it's the real thing. Besides that would take a bunch of balikbayan boxes for your sister.

Dapat nga mag tagalog na lang tayo dito sa thread. Raizen kamusta na ang mga pinays sa Hawaii? I can only imagine...Tang ina walang masyadog pinays dito sa Boston eh.

Glad to know Philippines Thread is active again

Hello guys,

Have been away for few months now but glad that this thread is still active. I still think I am the only Filipino/Korean living in Philippines with RX-8. All you guys are still abroad?

Regards.

raizen82 02-07-2008 08:59 PM

wow, you're the only one in the Phil with a rx8 and that's probably true. don't you sometimes feel you're the target of carnappers there since you have an awesome sports car (not to mention all your great mods) ? i'd be scared to drive around my 8 there... hehe

flip702 02-09-2008 01:23 PM

Wassup mga praning! LOL.. another "didn't know there was a pinoy thread" noob... Pinoy here came to the US when i was 10, dad from pangasinan (pangalatok) mom from angeles (kapampangan - MEKENI MEKENI!)....wife's family from laguna (tagalog) and baguio (ilocano - DIJAY DIJAY!)... meh, i can speak but i hab a slang wen i tok.

Didn't see much 8's where we were there last year...

I might wanna hold off on buying wheels here and wait to get them in the PI when the in-laws go back... anyone actually do this? good idea or no? eh? ;)

...oh to the Cali peeps, we gots Jollibee in Vegas now too.

not really since there are lots of very nice/better cars in the Philippines (ferrari, porsche, bentley, etc). I did see one that belonged to a top honcho (japanese dude) of Mazda Philippines, same velocity red - thought it was my car but then I was driving mine - lol.

I plan to move to the PI. Anyone know the ballpark cost of shipping the 8 down there?

longpath 11-28-2008 11:55 AM

Sorry to bother. I skimmed through the thread and might have missed it. Are there any 8s in any rental fleets in the Metro Manila area? I'm trying to plan my trip to visit my inlaws once my daughter is old enough to stand an 18 to 24 hour flight (she'll be 1 on Monday) and after having to suffer through renting a Ford Mustang when I was on a trip in the Southwestern US with my wife, I'm determined to try harder than ever to find 8s for rent when I travel. Driving an 8 every day when I'm home has spoiled me!!!

So, how about it? Does anyone know if it's possible to rent an RX-8 in Metro Manila? I'd likewise be interested in knowing if there are any RX-8s for rent in or around Makati.

My wife has already warned me about the traffic, jeepneys, and heinous fuel prices. :)

J Mackin 11-30-2008 04:07 AM

^The 8 is quite a rarity in the Philippines, so I doubt that there would be any available for rent. Have you driven in Manila before? Take heed, Manila is known to test one's defensive driving skills. :scared:

Shipping a used one? It actually depends if you have connections. Otherwise, it will cost ya. I understand its about the cost of buying another used 8.

But hey, considering how rare it is in the PI... its prolly worth it.

Thanks. After really screwing up my back in a Ford Mustang, I realised I can't take for granted that the seats in a rental are going to fit me properly; but if it isn't possible to rent an 8, then I'll have to come up with a plan B.

My wife has described driving in the Phils as something akin to a cross between a Mad Max film and a Pro Rally. I've not driven there but I'm guessing it's something akin to Manhattan driving during a city-wide power outage.

Worse comes to worse, I might just hire a driver and car. :(

On your first trip, yes - I would say hiring a driver would be a smart thing to do. Imagine this: driving in roads where drivers have no idea what a lane is, pedestrians cross wherever and whenever they please (yes, even on a highway), potholes big enough to make your car jump and worse of all, minor street intersections have no stop or yield signs, its like russian roulette everytime you cross one.
