newbie on rx-8

Hi. Booked my 8 recently and its gonna come next month. Can the bros and sistas advice me on the things to look out for when collecting the car and driving it for the first time? I've read about the engine oil and petrol. But I still confused. Can anyone here enlighten me on how to run in the car, what type of engine oil to use, and frequency of change for engine oil. Lastly, what type of petrol is suitable for the rx-8? Thanks in advance.

Hi Pyro,

Run in of the engine is just like any other car... don't rev the engine more than 4k rpm for the first 1000km... then after that you're pretty much free to rev higher... the peak rpm for auto is 7k rpm and 9k for manual...

Engine oil change is 1k for a new car... and every 5k after that (recommended). You should check your engine oil level frequently cuz the Renesis engine burns up engine pretty quickly. So a quick check of the dipstick every other couple of week is advised, and you can top up the engine oil if it runs low before your next servicing.

Choice of oil? Use only specialized oil for rotary engines if you're using synthetic oils. The guys around this forum like oil from RE and Texas Revolution etc... (guys you can chip in to the list). Recently there's a memo from Mazda that mineral oil is advised too... so some workshops do recommend the use of mineral from time to time. The selection of oil is flameable (pun intended) as different people have different opinion on this matter... kekekeke

Choice of petrol? Definitely RON 95 and above will not hurt your car... if you're feeling rich, u can always pump V-Power. But if you ever try to pump RON 92... God bless your car... definitely a no no...

hei bro i think RE rotary oil (Syn oil i think)

base on my experince and for those who have studied in perth, you will knw a workshop call x-speed. quite well known for modification of cars. My friend by the name james got an rx-7 made in 1996. he went there service and they pour in fully syn oil and after the service, he find that it is very smooth and guess what after the third servicing (15k), x speed still pour in fully syn oil for him. and about the 17k, his whole engine got blow off. when they strip the engine up, they realise that the seal all got stuck with sticky stuff. From some other experince ang moh, then they found out that rotary engine cannot use syn oil..

Anyway what ever i say is not for debate it's for reading leisure. Belive or don't belive i will have to wait till my friend to graduate and come back then only he will be able to share his experince with you guys.

For me i am using the cheapest shell mineral oil...

Thanx to all the bros for the fast response. For the engine oil, it is recommended to use mineral oil? If yes, which brand and where do I get them? For petrol, bro freestyle advices RON 95 minimum, but is that going to "kill" the engine in long run? I mean is 98 a prefered choice? Sorry for these dumb question as this is a first car for me and my other half. And which workshop do you guys go to for servicing your cars? Thanx in advance for all answers. Appreciated all the help.

if u have to use syn oil, then use only rotary synthetic oil, cannot use any other normal syn oil no matter how good or how exepnsive they are.

i totally agree x-speed poor in Mobil 1 fully syn oil

they know the mistake cause they have verfiy with some rotary engineers but they only thing they can compensate my friend is that they will rebuild his engine at no labour cost.

But as i mention i'm currently only using normal mineral oil which is confirm safe hehe
