New car, engine fuel change and brands

After reading the long debates on mineral and synthetic oils for rotaries, my conclusion is that it is really up to personal preference. For a new car, it appears that it is good to start off with mineral oil for the first 1000km to 5000km and then flush and change to a semi syn oil for, say the next 5000km and thereafter a syn oil. Would be grateful if someone could recommend what are the usual brands for each of the above oils used; where do I get them - Surely these are also easily available at any pump station? Many Thanks!

i also just got my car. althought its a re-cond car, but the car dealer did a service for me too. and the oil changed, they use semi-synthetic, then after that i found that they overflowed my car with shell engine oil.

i then changed the oil to shell plus mineral oil. instantly found the different. the car is more quiet and more smooth. i am not sure whether its due to the oil or the overflow. but i recommend mineral oil.

Aureliux - True, Engine oil would be down to personal preference. There are long threads about this on any rotary engine board. But i would like to add that, If your car is new, change the oil more frequently. 2,000 than 3,000 than every 5,000. Reason being with a new car/engine, all the engine components will still be "rubbing" each other. Causing more wear/metal shavings. And it would be a good idea to get them out before they can cause any major damage.

Yup, i bought engine oil in bulk and change it every low oil mark. Kiasu yes, but at least i know i am not adding to dirty oil.

And to add, i am running a mesh air filter which makes my oil dirty real fast.

And curious to know, who is the 8 who uses 10w-30 or lower, some workshop i have been to said some 8s uses this low viscosity oil. I run 15w-40 and i felt it was quite thin for the rotary already.

i'm using 0w30. Yes its thin, but if amemiya deems its for NA rotary, then shld be ok. Years of history and experience with rotary engines, and otherwise known as rotary god in japan, i dun tink he can go any wrong with his oil.......

Thanks guys for all the advice. Will check out the abovementioned brands at our local pump station. I was also just reading another thread by loonsy on how long to run in new RX8... wah, so many things to learn...

Nothing much really. Just need slight more attention than piston cars.
