Need advice on buying from PIs in Singapore

Hi, i am a new member to this forum and I am contemplating buying the RX8 4AT from a PI in Singapore. I know little about cars and much less about the RX8 except those information that I pick up in the introductory portion of this forum. I am utterly confused by the different packages PIs offer and would like some general advice as to what I should be looking out for and what usual unscrupulous tactics I need also to be aware of. Maybe someone can recommend a honest and reliable PI? Would I have a problem with workshops and spareparts/accessories if I buy from a PI?

I would probably recommend GR, they are located at tagore lane. You can get their address from yellow pages or just PM me if you cant find it.
I got my car from them and so far no issues with them, they were even quite prompt in notifying the 8 owners that bought from them regarding the heat wrapping. You can do a search to find more info about this matter.

As for tactics, there are some members that went through some really bad experiences. They can probably advise better.

hi, i'm new too. have looked at all the PI's quotes, and been asking my friends in the car trade for some advises. seems that there are afew issues u should note: 1) pricing
2) delivery
3) servicing (after sales)

some PIs quotes extremely low price to make u sign up and pay a deposit (as much as possible), and they will wait for you to lose your patience. Even if they write down in black and white what they promise, they are prepare for u to sue them in small claims court (at least take a couple of months). The truth is they are using your money to roll. Imagine in 1 weekend, if they can get 20 customers to put a deposit of average 5K per order, 1 month they have 400k to roll and it will take u a couple of months to retrieve your money. Out of 10 customers, some will have no choice to put more money in order to get their car, some will have their deposit forfeited and only a certain % of them will wait on. there are many factors which affects the sale,:- exchange rate, coe etc.

these are some tactics my friend warn me of, hope it helps!

well, so far still no news from Mazda Japan and I think the car might reached our shores next year for god's sake... as for me, I have decided to get the 4-spd auto as the price is cheap as compared to the 6-speed auto which might be launched and the HP gain is not worth the money... well, if U are interested, I am going to book the RX8 this week [recommended by RX8 club members]...

Hi Guys, thanks for all the advice.

Tan280, do let us all know about your package and which PI you will be buying from. Did you ask the PI after after-sales support? Do they have workshops for the rotary engine?

I am unlikely to wait for the 6AT.

I bought my 6MT Shinka II from World of Wheels, dealt with Jimmy. He's quite nice and has called me several times to let me know on the progress of things. 1yr warranty via ST Power.

If you are looking for AT, Jimmy quoted me something like 93K for the base model, but that was some time back already, at least a month ago.

Yah man... and dun assume that MM knows everything too, when i brought my 8 for checking yesterday due to my 2-3gear thingy, u know wad the SA told me??

"Aiyo, cannot change at so high RPM one... tats y got the sound and difficulty in engaging the gear... u should change at 3k RPM"

If not for the fact that his attitude was quite good, I would have suan him tat I would have gotten a mazda3 if i wanted to drive at 3k rpm... And of coz, it didnt help tat my gearbox oil is green in colour so no grounds for agrument

Hey ed520, I bought my Shinka II for $121K, that price was for a month ago, and there was a 1K extra for White.

I think someone else on the forum was able to get it for $119K.

If you were to buy the AT version, I would suggest buying the base model and modding it yourself, cos the cost of the AT and MT are the same.

I have posted this link before, but if you would like to know more, here is the mazda Japan link for the Shinka II (Sports Prestige Limited II).

I just read the thread posted by Rei on advice needed for purchasing the rx8 and some other similar threads... aiyo...so many things to consider like boot spoiler, radio (boss system or not), electric seat, leather or fabric seats, 16" or 18" rim wheels, solar film, tinted glass etc... does anyone know what are the standard stuff that comes with buying from a PI? Are these seaparetly negotiated? What is a "base model"? How to tell the difference between the 2005 and 2006 version when buying from a PI? How i wish someone who knows more abt the rx8 can go shopping with me!!

Electric Folding Mirrors
6 Airbags
Climate Control Aircon
In Dash 6 CD (forgot to ask if its bose)

no leather seats, cruise control, foggies etc

Honestly, I think its just all marketing gimmicks and depends on what stock the dealers are carrying at the moment.

When I got my auto last year Mar, mine came with the usual Xenon HID, folding mirrors, airbags and climate control. No In Dash 6 CD, Bose or DSC.

I made the dealer throw in free for the 6CD, and leather. Bose not that important as it doesn't that great, and since I am not a trackker, DSC no use for me as well.

Agree with Derek, all the things you've listed are features of the base model. I got mine at 93k with:
DSC
Xenons
Electric Folding Mirrors
6 Airbags
Climate Control Aircon
Windows Tinting
Leather Seats

HY. I bought my COE seperately from the car, which they charged me $83+k for. Basically, sales service completely sucks........ verbally promised me CD changer, but never deliver, Radio tuner convertor sux, the SE was so inexperienced, might as well do everything myself. somemore, the number plate they registered for me sux too.....well....you get what you pay.

Too soon for after sales svc feedback, svc supposed to be at Sportswagen.... dunno how good they are but let's see lah...

Hi Tan280, congrats!! Would you mind sharing with us what was the package you got? U can also PM me the PI. Thanks so much!

gfoo, I thik you got quite a good deal for $93K just looking at what you got for your car and not the service; Who did you get it from? Last weekend I called up a PI (advertised in the papers) and I was told the leather seats comes together with the car for $96,988. Another PI, for the same price included the leather seats and in-dash 6 CDs (the last time I asked the another PI 2 months ago I was told it is only MP3 player). I didn't know about DSC or Xenons, though....

Derekwcw, I am surprised they don't have cruise control, I thought that is standard? Even the new Mazda 6 sp has it. Can anyone verify this?

Wink

Hi all,

This is my first post here but i have been hovering here around for a while, reading all previous posts. Like many, I am looking at the auto 8 so that my wife can drive it (and will drive it most of the time, lol) and i am considering PI like HY and H...carz. HY no doubt is the oldest PI ard, correct me if I am wrong. So my Qs are have anyone dealt with the mentioned 2 before and any other recommendations in terms of reliable and reasonably priced PIs (put it in S'pore terms, Cheap and good lah)?

Also for those who has already got their ride from the PI, care to share with me the deals (aka price and equipments) you are getting so that i will not be ripped off.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
