Unhappy My Engine Light On (CEL)

Guys, my cel came on today. Anybody got d same problem?

I have read most of the stuff in previous threads. Luks like its only the earlier VINs that were affected. Hope mines not that. I read that its either cat problem or misfire code.

Went to workshop today but their diagnostic tool is currently not available. So have to wait, in the meantime driving with engine light on. Really hope its nothing major. T.T

However, i did change a hi-flow cat but its been a while already. Hmmm, any bright suggestions out here? Cant really jusitify as misfire problem cuz i went for porridge BreakFast then after makan shiok shiok went to start and there it is! FxxK! Before dat wasn't maxing my baby out or anything just a slow drive to d makan place.

Hi Neon,

I had my CEL light on the other time when I installed my Mazdaspeed struct bar due to installer at one of the workshop forgot to connect back the connectors in the engine bay area. Went to EZ import to have the mechanic there to reset the ECU. They had the manual for the RX8. Piece of cake for them and it took only a couple of minutes to get it done. If you have any problem in getting them to do it for you, just let me know...

Ok, stil there......T.T

Does L-Flash affects us? Cant really see any VINs in the USA TSBs.

And i also doubt any of the local shops have the software in the first place!

One more quick question, My freaking EGT is HOT! Is it normal? Maybe the Hi-Flow Cat really screwed up my O2 sensor thus the CEL?

ARGGRHH PEK CHEK AH!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Neon, have you sort out your CEL problem yet??

Am interested too, to know if we need the L/M-flash, and is there a place where we can flash the PCM.

I don't understand why you are getting the runaround with your dealer. Is it not a Mazda dealer? All Mazda dealers worldwide had the diagnostic software for the RX-8 within 3 months of its initial release (whether they import it or not) - all they need to do is hook up your car and any trouble codes will be displayed.
I can understand them not wanting to work on a grey car to a certain extent (particularly one with a non-original cat), but you are still a Mazda customer, so you deserve some attention. This is a delicate subject, one I can't get involved in for career reasons, but my suggestion is that you politely insist on appropriate attention based on the grounds above. If you don't get anywhere then send a letter to MC in Japan.
I suggest you get that MIL fixed quick!

I do not agree with any country refusing to repair parallel imports. If a country does not have the tools/technique to support a particular vehicle, then they should make this clear to the customer and carry out repairs anyway. The manufacturer will support them, and they should support the customer. You may have to pay more for the service, but it should definitely be available to you.

Take your car to Mazda Singapore, ask them to read the trouble code, and ask them to find out what the code means. If you intend on having the car repaired at their dealer as well, I would request that they do the above for free. If you intend on having repairs done at an independent dealer then don't be surprised if MS expect payment for the above.

Get it checked out!

There is a scan tool for the RX-8 now, I bought a CANScan from Harrison in the USA. It was $140 U.S. and works great on my 8. It will let you see the trouble code and turn off the light as well as show you quite a bit of sensor data.

The web site is www.ghg.net/dharrison. The CANScan was the only OBD-II reader I found for the RX-8 that was under $600.
