I had been deciding what to buy either a GOOD bodykit or a Lambo Door kit.

Finally I had decided to buy a Lambo Style Vertical Door Conversion Kit

They told me that the Hydraulic shocks are 1800 lbs PSI, so it will be and eas opening and closing the doors. therefore not much strenght required.

Manual one cos the Electronic one is a Universal Kit that required alot of work inorder to install on the car.

While the Manual one is a direct bolt on kit which do not require and drilling or cutting or welding.

vectorwolf 07-02-2005 12:21 PM

I'm just curious how you can get through the rear doors with those?

Vanquish 07-02-2005 01:29 PM

Wow!

Seriously... wat's the costs like??

lohsk 07-02-2005 01:34 PM

Which door conversion company are you buying from ??

sqflyer 07-02-2005 01:35 PM

Bro, just make sure the hinge is rock solid sturdy. I've seen one too many Tuscani with super flimsy doors after they get the vertical doors. Personally, I don't think it's practical and the wow factor wears off after a while, but that's just me. Whatever you decide to spend money on, juz ENJOY IT!!!

sqflyer 07-02-2005 01:51 PM

From what I saw on the Tuscanis, the door opens about 30 degs then hinges up. It CANNOT be opened more than 30 degs, so it's a bit of a squeeze getting out. It also cannot hinge upwards very far, so it's a bit of a crawl if you wanna get out from under the door too. However, I don't think it will affect the opening and closing of the rear suicide doors.

US$1000 shipped to USA C.A and www.vpostusa.com will then mail it to me.

Used Vpostusa cos the company wanted US$350 to mail it directly from USA to Spore.

Nothing is Practical. Buying a RX8 is not practical cos we do not need an RX8 that burn 6.5km per litre of fuel to travel around in Singapore.
Buying a Toyota Vios that burn 15km/Litre of fuel is more pratical. ;)

Wow factor only wears out on the same person who had sees it everyday. but there are 3-4million people in Singapore and not everyone gets to see one and most of them never get to see one before or touch one before. :D

P.S Plus theres another tne plus millions across the CauseWay.

sqflyer 07-02-2005 06:24 PM

I meant the practical and wow factor from the owner's perspective, but like I said, enjoy it! ;)

Manwe 07-02-2005 09:01 PM

i'm thinking of area with low ceilings...

darkelfin 07-02-2005 10:13 PM

i think shld be fine coz he'll only be getting in and out at places wif enough ceiling rm. wun be driving ard wif doors open. hehe...

morganoh, dun worry, u got ur first wow victim here already. rem to show us ya. :)

dollygrrrl 07-02-2005 11:15 PM

That is sweeeeeet
I saw a pic of a celica like that before, and I asked if it could have been done for mine. (That was in 2003) But my friend who owns a workshop say cannot leh.

But. unless the owner is really skinny. The car may look glam, but the person coming out from it may not.

Naughty Boy 07-02-2005 11:25 PM

NICE!!! :D Me like! :p

Is your kit with an 'L' hinge? I.e. does the door open normally before swinging up? That's a better design cos u can always open the doors normally, and save the swing up for special occasions - like meets! :D

What's the shipping cost?

morganoh 07-03-2005 02:21 AM

There are too many companies selling this kind of door kit, and most of them do not provide enough info.

But according to the seller, they said that I could still enter the car without having the door in the vertical position. May just have to do it slowly cos it can only open to around 20-30 degrees in the horizontal position.

These 20-30 degrees is ok with me cos the kit solve all my problems as most of the time the car is park very close to another one in the carpark, and the rear passenger would have problem exiting the car.

Just visualise. driver can still exit car car with only the front door open to 20 degrees, but the rear passenger would have difficulties when u open up both the front and rear door to only around 20 degrees.

Intesresting! There was a kit for the RX7 which opened both ways, i.e. normally and vertical. Haven't seen any for the RX8 yet though... :(

So r u getting the kit? Will be easier for me to 'sell' the idea if u do! ;) :D

Hi, Morganoh. I'm a new member of RX8 club. I'm also interested about the vertical door, hence ask about it from LTA. Attached is their reply.

sqflyer 09-02-2005 02:05 PM

Look like the usual lot of hoops to jump through to get anything done in SG. I think LTA is saying that they will allow you to do things to your car IF you can be bothered to go through all the trouble to get it certified. If not, then it falls back to the "do anything you want, just don't get caught" theory, but don't the crime if you can't pay the fine (SG version). IMHO, just don't do illegal mods lor... save yourself from all the trouble and fear of getting caught. Just put the money towards good legal mods instead. Just my 2c...

Vanquish 09-02-2005 02:38 PM

Why do I get the feeling that despite sending in all the info/documents they request, the reply gonna be a NO... :(

sqflyer 09-02-2005 03:02 PM

Hardest part is getting all the info/documentation in the first place...

Lucky my door kit is a bolt on kit. not need to weld and drill any extra holes.

Just remove the original one and screw/bolt on the vertical kit and can remove again if required.
But I believe that they are more interested in getting the nerves of those who do alterations and modifications to the exhaust system and engine..

NgoRX8 09-02-2005 08:09 PM

I doubt places with low ceilings would ever be a concern with an rx8 with lamborghini doors. Just think of it... If its not able to have a SUV height opening, then maybe cars aren't meant suppose to be in there.

So is it on yet ??

No. I'm trying to made it one set using better material.

EZZY 09-03-2005 03:21 AM

how about the loom extension?
those kit would normally allow you top opne horziontially about 2" to 3" before you have to lift.
make sure the gas struct is designed to lift the door, luckily the rx8 front doors arent that heavy. the stronger the gas struct, the harder it is for you to pull it down.
how many adjustments do you have? normally you get two tyre of adjustments, one for the horzontial swing and one for the vertical swing.

Genesis 09-03-2005 09:10 AM

Morgan...going back to your original post, why not get a cool VR bodykit instead bro to match your excellent rims and CF hood....the lambo vertical doors although they look nice and they're unique will ultimately in the long run be a pain in the ass.

morganoh 09-03-2005 01:15 PM

The original is made from galvanised Steel and hydraulic struts are difficult to find.

The one that I'm trying to remake is Stainless stain and Stabilus Struts which are much easiler to find.

It's the best. The only one that can maintain alignment.

Not yet. all of the Vertical Door Kit sold are make of Steel and even though they are galvanised They will still rust after some time.

So I will remake them using Stainless steel. (cos Singapore weather is too humid for galvanised steel)

And furthur more the most important part of the vertical door is the hydraulic struts. they will also fail after some time and I do not wish to be search for them or paying high price buying from the dealer that sold the door kit to me.

So not only am I using a different material . I'm also using a Stabilus struts, which is much easiler to find and cheaper to buy too.

Not yet...

Everyone has been asking the same questions..

If u are willing to come to my place I can show u the lambo door kit. but only the kit alone, not on the car yet.

lohsk 10-10-2005 12:46 PM

Vanquish 10-10-2005 02:23 PM

can "borrow" the kit, install and test 4 u? Promise will provide test result. :p

mauroavella 10-14-2005 10:38 AM

Don't do it yet, I think they still very restricted in terms of the space thay leave to get in and out of the car. Other issue is that woth some lambo doors when they are open they do not leave enough space for the rear doors to open.

Be really carefull, and if you ask me, I'd tell you to stay out of it by now.
