the speed limiter is governed by the ecu and since all the piggy back system allow you to bypass the ecu setting(it can be programmed to inject fuel at >180km/h) it should remove the speed limiter. But you might have a problem as the speedo could be adjusted to read only 180. That would mean you may travel well above the 180 and your car register 180km/h. You got to check it out.

Yes. It should easily remove the speed limiter. Haven't put it to the test though.
Do you have a Unichip distributor in Malaysia as well? If you do decide to get the Unichip, do make sure you get a trained tuner or you will not be able to maximise the potential of the chip....He may also mess your whole ecu settings or worse still, damage your engine. So do exercise precaution. Also do make sure that he is using the 3rd generation unichip for the RX8 which was only recently released by Dastek. There are other versions of the Unichip which will not be compatible
Alternatively, if you want to do your own tuning, try Canzoomer instead. They do provide pre-set RX8 map settings.

Hey I was there for the dyno, the tuner didn't wanna push it to 9000.
Anway dmp, the power for a stock euro RX8 peaks at 8200rpm and the dyno pretty much covers it. It is up to 8285 rpm for your info.

I got a group of friends (JDM Accords and euro R) who unichipped their ride. Before and after was obvious with one owner gaining 16 bhp on his stock 2.0l auto accord. Others ranged from 8 to 16 bhp with dyno chart.
Seems the unichip is very effective without much prob. They did it in JB.

As for the speedometer not displaying the actual speed beyond 180km...is this really valid??? i mean, since it's digital, should it not display the actual speed...i'm really curious.
As for Canzoomer, has anyone installed this ECU? Is it a better piggy back ECU? All i'm looking for is really a speed cut enabler and a few addition of HPs...since the speed cut enabler itself is about RM 1300 (~S$600) in Malaysia, might as well get the piggy back ECU. Can anyone recommend a place to install Canzoomer (exact location and contact address? I'm really not familiar with S'porean garages)
Cheers!

Can you give me the name, address and contact of the distributor who did yours?

Can someone enlighten me on the graphs?
1) On the torque chart, the yellow line drops significantly between 1993 to 3000rpm, is this normal?
2) Am I right to say that we get almost 100% gain in torque (9+ vs 18+) right @ 3k rpm?
Thanks...

About 3 hours to fix...
I am planning to go myself but some mazda club members are suggesting I take a look at the obit piggyback.

Hi M-ster, thanks for sharing that info. I guess i'm most likely going to instal the Unichip since it serves both as a speed cut enabler and engine tuner. I was thinking of the HKS RSM, but that alone cost like $600..so might as well add a couple hundred more for the Unichip.
Hey lohsk, Is the Obit Piggyback similar to Unichip? how much is that going for?

The Unchip & HKS RSM can't remove the speed cut on JDM Rx8, only the HKS & FEED SLD can do it, if u having JDM Rx8 the unchip might not tune up the performance too, but think it may tune up the EURO SPEC back to JDM .

About $900 according to the "Shark" - Mazdaclub member. I still can't find an english website on it. But I think it is similar.

thanks tems900, i'll give Max a call next week to double confirm on the Unichip. Since there's not much choice, i guess i'll settle for the HKS SLD...a bit expensive for a stand alone if u ask me...anybody's installed it?
