Improving RX 8 FC - 6MT
Hello bros!
I'm new to this forum so hopefully can seek some guidance from other RX 8 bros here!
Firstly, i must admit that i've been going thru several different threads in the RX 8 Club forum regarding installing devices etc to improve fuel consumption..but somehow the older threads always seems to stray from topics with comments and remarks etc and eventually after reading so many different posts, i still can't find a conclusion to it
I really wish to ask if any bros here have installed any devices, magnets etc etc that in their opinion have helped them in their overall fuel consumption. Pls feel free to share!
I've bought the RX 8 knowing how the fuel consumption is going to be like but i'm just loving this baby more & more everyday..so much that i wanna go almost everywhere with it! But at the same time while enjoying the drive & handling & the looks of it, i cant help but feeling the strain in the cost of petrol every month. Just thinking if there is any ways i can improve the FC so that it can complete my joy of driving it
As mentioned, hope the bros here can post their experience & products that they've tried before and also the results of it can?
Thank you so much in advance I must say its u guys on the road with your stunning 8s that have made me choosen it too! =) cheers~

personally to me, there is no device in the market that can help you to save cost EFFECTIVELY. i've read a lot of reviews in a lot of forums but there isn't 1 device that can really prove it's worth. simple calculation like, cost of device (within life span) is more than the savings projected.
i would go concentrate on how NOT TO SPEND more rather than save. meaning use oni wat is necessary.
This device is FREE, our right leg. (u should know wat i mean)

well, personally i've did something which actually save my 6MT fuel.
first, I changed to RP Supercat, it gives me 20km (only) more per fuel tank.
secondly, i change to another engine oil which give me another 20km (only) more per fuel tank.
thirdly, i removed the plastic cover which blocks the front of the intake. And this gives me 40km more per fuel tank.
Now i'm pretty happy with my FC, 8.5km/l.

I went to one of the forum saying that we(A/T) must rev to more than 6k rpm everyday.? is it true?

Regarding save fuel, i rem one logic answer i said to my friend... hehe, he at that time when we r early 20s, is a very keen racer, for that he spent alot of $$ remodding his S13 silvia. Part of his quest to be faster is to lighten the weight of his car. He went on to remove his rear seats, spare tyre, speakers, dash board, (the console for his gear, handbrake n cup holder, dunno wat it is call), tuner and even his air-con compressor which the car is stripped bare to oni the chasis left.
Once he asked me wer shd he carry on his modding... I so fed up wif his furnace type car I juz simply ask him he can try by reducing his own weight.. (cos he kinda big size n fat)...
So i guess if u really keen to save fuel, u can enforce urself to strict weight loss program, plus also those sitting in ur car... like tat ur car can definitely go faster n also save fuel...
Try design a decal limiting a person weight for ur car, e.g. <50kg per pax sticked at the back of ur car... like those car limitating decals u seen on the roads.

Hi guys! Thank you so much for all the replies! Pls keep them coming coz really interested to explore other ways to improve FC. I've tried so hard on my "Right Foot" method but i guess i'm just heavy footed to enjoy the 8s' speed... Well the wooden block will be my last option though!
Bro rx8dorifto, i'm keen to find out more about the things that u've done which all in all gave u additional 80km! Possible for me to contact u to find out more? sorry i can PM yet..thanks alot!
Cheers~

Wood preferred cos of weight savings over brick.... best is styrofoam.
Normal driving style recommendations to save fuel will work with all cars. Magnets definitely will not work, unless you live in a parallel universe where laws of physics are different..

Seriously, besides remap, I don't know any practically effective way for saving fc. Before I buy the car, I already know RX7's fc is horrible. I expected worst but came out better than RX7 a lot and only near a normal 2.0L car fc, which is cheap for me.

thought they can do 11-12km/l...

maybe just my instinct (i got the oil VERY cheap ), but after changed to this oil my fc really improve. I'm using Idenmitsu 10w30 mineral, SM grade. Maybe bcoz its of highest grade...anyone of u can try it out since its cheap.

yes, i know that. But isn't it mazda manual recommended 0w20?
I know our climate is hot, but not as hot as summer in those ang mo countries right?
I'm using the SM grade, i keep monitor the oil temp and pressure, all looks ok even when i cruise 180km/h all the way to Malacca once a month. I don't even topup that often with this oil. Sometimes dont even need to topup till my next service.
And most importantly, I got lobang to buy it at lobang price

If I aint wrong, MM here in Singapore uses the 20w 50 Shell Helix Super Mineral as the recommended for the stock RX8 which contradicts the MM manual by a pretty large degree.
Maybe its just kiasuism at work here lol I dunno.
What perf mods are you using bro? That might be a good yardstick for everyone else to gauge also as it stands to reason that if it works for you at that level (180km/h) with no issues - then someone else with the same setup and driving habits could do the same too.
But just to be safe...I'd call Ivan/Darren/Mike and check with them lol.
