How would you know you are getting what you are paying for?

Dear pple,

I am goin to book a type S with sunroof,

being a newbie to rx8

i was hoping seniors here can help me with some things so that i can avoid getting cheated.

1) For the type S, how would i know it is the type S im getting apart from the obvious sunroof?

2) How much should the OMV be approx.

3) The PI told me that leather is locally fitted. How come the rx8 dont come with factory fitted leather?

thank you for your time.

On top of my head:

Type S is 6 speed manual transmission (6MT)
Leather seats are factory optional - some may have them, some don't.

You should search this forum (Far/East Asia) and you should find plenty of subjects on this. Good luck.

Not all type S comes with sunroof. This is just a factory option.

OMV for different dealer varies. As a guide, should be around the range of $35k.

Leather seats comes as factory fitted if only you get the electric seat option.
Many PIs gives you local fitted leather because it is much cheaper, however, it doesn't mean that the quality is lower depending on which company your PI send the your car to be fitted with the leather.

Astrosky, I'm looking to buy a 6MT as well.
You can PM me so that we can have a chat about it.

I'm looking for 6AT at the moment but to answer your second quesiton, the OMV can depend on your PI, does he get it direct or thru another local party? If direct, you'll normally get it in the 30k+++. If not, expect it below 30k. I'm speaking for 6AT so for 6MT it should be slightly higher than the 6AT.

I believe Type S only comes with 6 speed manual so that should answer your question on whether you are getting a Type S or not.
Other stuff are factory options, like sunroof, leather, Bose stereo, side airbags etc.

OMV depends on the number of options you have factory fitted. Anyway, all looks very low nowadays. Used to be more than $40k for the type S!

oh I forgot, Yen to S$ exchange rate is also another factor. One way of estimating is to get the pre-tax Yen price from the MM Japan homepage then do the conversion yourself. That should give you a good estimate that's close to the OMV i think.

Very sorry to tell all the members here.

The New cars by MM 6MT OMV is now around $26K, so the New Auto version will be much lower.

For OMV 26k but yet still selling at 113k+, I really wonder what are we paying for? doesn't make sense. Its like almost 40-50% of our $$ as pure profits for MM.... that's crap if that's the case.

Why are you complaining when you intend to get the 6AT which MM does not sell? It does not concern you at all.

P.S. MM,if you are reading this..please give me extended warranty since I so loyal. hahahaha

The OMV drop from $35K (2 years) to $26K (now).

But Mazda Motor maintains its selling price of around $105-108K with out COE.
(2yrs ago- Selling price with COE = $129k, COE = $22k)
(Now - Selling Price with COE = $117k, COE = $13k)

It will benefit those who already had the car, cos the Rx8 will still fetch a reasonable good price in the Used Market.
And I will still upbring its image of a car that is not easily reachable (as compare with WRX when it drop from $105K (2yrs ago) to current price of $81K.

So for those people who already has the Car , I think every one will certainly support Mazda Motor and PI for maintaining their Selling price.

But for Those new buyer. they will lose out much more if they were to sell they cars after 1-3 years driving.
