Thanks for dropping by! Our shop usually takes in appointment work and very rare to have walk-in customers. But next time, please say hi, and I am sure my staff will look after you and I will show you what we did to the RX.

Hi Taka, I am planning to install two large Billion radiator fans and water spraying system in front of the radiator to cool the thing down. Also, install an air scoop on the bumper to duce cooler air to the intake. As for 180km/h cut off, I am still hunting for solutions!

Oil temp is OK, 110C but water temp is 120C.

However, my RX-8 has turbocharged, I think factory will be OK if you install a good radiator, a pair of billion radiator fan and a pair of oil cooler.

But you still have stock radiator...? 120 is very high. I have driven in the turbo where the coolant needle goes to the H point (there was no coolant temp)

People here have problem with radiator change, and oil cooler. The coolant is still over 100 on a Winter track day.

NA with stock rad. and 2 oil coolers still have 110 coolant temp on a 35 degree track day. Go figure. I need a radiator now.

I have Koyo radiator installed, I think the radiator fan is not strong enough and I will need to install a water spray system to cool things down.

My oil temp seems OK, it is water that bugs me! The other one is speed cut, the HKS SLD doesn't work!

hey all HK,
how's everything?
on and off this forum & now im really tire and have enough with my 4A/T. I love my 8 but really, really ...... tire in modifing her & sometime i want she to be what I get from the beginning. There's no point in modifing it in HK, too fast, you gets your tickets, too slow, moron civic just snap you right in your face.
alack of torque and some other minor thing was all i want to beauitify her but i went onto the wrong way. I put appox 150K hk$ and only max 70K worth and other in dispopal. I still have my EXTRA springs, damper, rotors, some gadgets & bloddy racing beat ram air intake in my gargage.
What's the point??? i'll keep the 8 as I really love it but im going for a 2nd hand 996 or cambiocorsa.
take care!!

hi Patrick
mine is also a 4A/T, which mods are qualified under your "70k worth" ? I have been considering my first mod to go for final gear and better ignition coil after my biz trip.

Hey vince,
let me try to list out for you what's worth.

1/. Sprint booster. It's a must!!!! You will dinfinitely see and feel the diff and you'll be amused. But maybe after 5 or 6 months when you get tire of the lack of power. $2500.00 i think. Self installed.

2/. Racing beat revi ram air intake. Also a must, love it. With shipping & handling, appox $4000.00. Self installed.

3/. Tein comfort sport coilover. $12,000.00 w/installation I've tried to change the damper or spring alone. Money wasted on them are even greater than buying a set of coilover......

4/. Sway bar & endlinks. I'm using whiteline from australia with their end links. Cost around $5,000.00 with installation for all but the front end links makes a huge huge sound so I have to change it back to oem one which cost me another $1,000.00 with installation.

5/. Front & rear strut bar. Im using cusco, the front bar came with the thing that support the steering wheel thing... it's like around $4,000.00 with installation a couple years back. Now should be much cheaper now.

6/. Hot wire voltage stablizer w/earth wire - Slight different but your headlight do look brighter. $3,000.00

7/. TM works spark enhancer & voltage stablizer - Around $4,000.00. Really good, rev much faster and more responsive.

8/. Body - I have the one and only body kit in HK. The auto bahn. But cost me like $25000.00 with paint job. But problem is that it's black and after all those stone chip. I need to repaint my whole car again.

9/. K & N air filer. Before I change to revi, K & N is pretty much enough as a cheap mode. I still have it if you want it. It's was $700 from japan but it's now like 450 or 490 in supergt.

10/. Oil catch tank - only a few hundred but better to have it to protect our engine.

11/. HKS oil cooler - Check your driver side to see if their is a oem cooler. If no, better get one. $5500. But if you're planning to change the bumper, make sure it fit. HKS doesnt go with my autobahn bumper and i have to give up the fog lights. Another big mistakes i made again.

12/. Engine mount - better get prepare becos the engine mounts tend to fail and crack very very fast. 4 years and I've changed 2 new set already. Hard to get in HK even mazde dealer need a week or 2 to get air in and they cost appox 1000 each. 2k for both side plus installation, blah blah blah..... pain in the butt....

13/. Engine oil - I used a few diff kinnda oil. And trust F2 and motul seems to work best. But each time like a thousand dollar and trust you have to buy it from supergt & motul cost even more. i change my oil 3-4km. So quite killing.

14/. Muffler for sure - Mine is local made at appox $7000.00 4 years ago while zero other brand in HK. peoples said auto exe muffler is the best for AT. I dunno, all i know it's like 8-9000 if your order it. plus installation.

15/. Some other fancy stuff - Of course, changing the rim & tire is almost a must. Im still looking for 19" taiwan made avs model 5 replica but no luck. And I've also brought the suede leather steering wheel cover, only $1,000 but took me 6 hours to have stitched down to my wheel..... Another mistake.....

16/. Auto member brace - you may get it later as the chassis is already good enough. But when you modify more, you need stronger chassis.

17/. Brake rotors & brake pad - I've changed them to rotora rotors plus ebc red pad. The pad seems not good enough if the temp not right. But so hot these few weeks so it's get into work faster. !!! one thing you must be aware, our AT front disc is smaller than MT front disc. 303mm vs 323mm, I never know until I've got a pair of wrong size in my hand. Another mistakes............ another 3k......

Well, that's mostly what's worth and I think you know why I'm giving up modifing it.... too much mistake i've made.

btw, is your 8 come with bose system? tv screen?

Oh, I've forgot few things.

18/. Spark plug wire - I've changed to auto exe. 1300 from supergt.

19/. Spark plugs - Denso iridium. changed like 2 years ago, i dont see much diff. But nowaday, a lot more of other brand came out with better effect.

20/. Batteries - I've got the odyssey from bem.

hahaha, a few more..... but not performance related.

LED tail nights. Cost me appox $6,000.00 with shipping from japan auction. and 2 pairs of clear corner thats another 1k. They both tend to be flooded from time to time. Dunno why but I know mazda has a recall on this in usa. Anyway, i seal all leakage and seam with clear gel and that fixed this issues.

some advice after all those mistake I've made. I would do some really deep deep research on what to modify before you committ on any. List them out and check all prices. Better go to one single car repair shop to order everything or order it by yourself online and bring to them to install, it will difinitely help you to save some labor cost and get some good discount pn parts & most of all, your time. Sometime i have to spend the whole day just waiting and waiting... and waiting....... to pick up my car......

hi Patrick,

WOW, loads of useful information and experiences, thanks so much for your kind sharing !!! Owe you a drink..

Looks like you "worth" slightly over 70k, so you got more out from your total mods investments...stay positive.

I also got some ideas and started to spend modifying my 8. I have picked up some of your mods as my priority and like to learn some more from you.

1/. Sprint booster. It's a must!!!! You will dinfinitely see and feel the diff and you'll be amused. But maybe after 5 or 6 months when you get tire of the lack of power. $2500.00 i think. Self installed.
---is this a small adapter just install at the plug of the gas paddle ? I will add this into my list..

2/. Racing beat revi ram air intake.
---ordered an autoexe weeks ago, this is my first major tune up, looking forward

4/. Sway bar & endlinks. I'm using whiteline from australia with their end links. Cost around $5,000.00 with installation for all but the front end links makes a huge huge sound so I have to change it back to oem one which cost me another $1,000.00 with installation.
---if I have no plans to change shocks cynlinders/springs or lower my 8, do I still need another set of end links to install the front sway bar ?

7/. TM works spark enhancer & voltage stablizer - Around $4,000.00. Really good, rev much faster and more responsive. & 18/. Spark plug wire
---likely I will go for Okada projects and autoexe plug wires, ok ?

8/. Body
---from your overall experience this will be my last mods after all functional parts installed (maybe 1-2 years to go.....)

10/. Oil catch tank
---what is the exact functions of this mods ? any brands recommended ?

12/. Engine mount
---never aware of this and this will be a nightmare to me cracking the engine mount....anyother 8 folks have same problems ?

14/. Muffler for sure
---will do and check out autoexe if its good for A/T, before this I have not decided which brands to go yet, maybe RE or some other US brands. btw, have you change the manifold as well ?

15/. Some other fancy stuff
---have already spent a lot for original interior items(not performance related), plate, metal paddles, foot rest for passenger seat as well (to please my better half...) one day almost got killed by her as she has found the superGT invoice...

5/. Front & rear strut bar & 16/. Auto member brace
---will add to strengthen my chasis over time with new mods add-in, it really improve handling, right ?

17/. Brake rotors & brake pad
---I am not sure if I will do anything to the rotor. But I will do something for better brake hose, pad, change oil and maybe autoexe mastervac support. Comments ???

19/. Spark plugs - Denso iridium.
---I will also probably use Denso, any other brands catch your eyes ?

20/. Batteries - I've got the odyssey from bem.
---Yeah, this is a tune up I always think its important

Well, that's mostly what's worth and I think you know why I'm giving up modifing it.... too much mistake i've made.
---I am sure you have a very nice 8 and I can't wait to see her...white ? isnt it ?

btw, is your 8 come with bose system? tv screen?
---yes, both. are you ? In know the navi screen is not workable in HK, however I like to keep it to see if I can still make it works

Thanks for your advices and definitely I will thoroughly research before making any decisions, the problem is I don't really have confidence to any workshops as just too few 8s around, doubt if they are experience enough. At the moment I order most of the gadgets from superGT (self/easy-installation items) and other mods like FEED 4.777 I will go to workshops. Now Bem is one spot I have confident from their experience on 8 and some other I passed by MK (Top racing, Crazy racing...etc)

I am just right at the stage enjoying/learning my 8, though cursing by the lady next to me everyday since she knew the cost of mods - might financially restrict/delay my progress but I will try to hang in there........

I think they only advance the throttle?

2/. Racing beat revi ram air intake.

Good buy me wants

no there is no needs, you only need endlink if the sway bar has a different shape as stock or you really want it because you lowered your car

7/. TM works spark enhancer & voltage stablizer - Around $4,000.00. Really good, rev much faster and more responsive. & 18/. Spark plug wire
---likely I will go for Okada projects and autoexe plug wires, ok ?
I have hooked a scanalyser in the car and does not see voltage variation while driving, it is only good when you have a big *** audio system.

8/. Body
---from your overall experience this will be my last mods after all functional parts installed (maybe 1-2 years to go.....)

10/. Oil catch tank
---what is the exact functions of this mods ? any brands recommended ?
There is a chance that engine oil gets to throttle. It only happens when you drive on the track.

12/. Engine mount
---never aware of this and this will be a nightmare to me cracking the engine mount....anyother 8 folks have same problems ?
Plenty - check Australian forum. All of us have it replaced under warranty.

5/. Front & rear strut bar & 16/. Auto member brace
---will add to strengthen my chasis over time with new mods add-in, it really improve handling, right ?
Yes it does, the best is the 4 point front tower bar.

17/. Brake rotors & brake pad
---I am not sure if I will do anything to the rotor. But I will do something for better brake hose, pad, change oil and maybe autoexe mastervac support. Comments ???
If you have the MazdaSpeed tower brace the mastervac is redundant MazdaSpeed has an extension to the master cylinder

19/. Spark plugs - Denso iridium.
---I will also probably use Denso, any other brands catch your eyes ?
NGK racing - Number 9 Leading 10 Trailing as supplied by Fujita.

At the moment I order most of the gadgets from superGT (self/easy-installation items) and other mods like FEED 4.777 I will go to workshops. Now Bem is one spot I have confident from their experience on 8 and some other I passed by MK (Top racing, Crazy racing...etc)
I will do FEED final drive with Bem really... but yet I never had a car in HK haha.

I am just right at the stage enjoying/learning my 8, though cursing by the lady next to me everyday since she knew the cost of mods - might financially restrict/delay my progress but I will try to hang in there........
There is a way .... it is call duct tape I love my wife. She never says anything about my mod except - oh it looks good.
