High pitched whistling sound from ?engine

Hi all. I have a PI 6MT 8 2003. For the past year, the car frequently develops a high pitched whistling sound when the engine is on. It seems to come from the engine compartment, but is louder when the stereo is turned on. Pitch increases as revs increase. Anyone has any idea on this? I've gone through our threads, but there is no mention of this problem. Couldit be a problem with grounding?

Possibly, it happens in my daily driver. Maybe weak battery or alternator? Anyone?

Pitch increases as revs increase, high pitched whistling sound, from the engine compartment... All I can think of are the beltings.

Electromagnectic interference, some thing in intake, something obstructing the belts, etc

did you upgrade your audio stuff? If so, check your stereo wirings (interference)....this kind of 'aeroplane' sound is pretty common.

Mm...I might be your pulley system on the front of the engine.
Start the car, and open the hood. Listen for the noise. If it from your front pulley system , it would be very easy to identify.
If it is your pulley system, you got 2 way to fix it. WD40 your belt contact points and/or your tensioners. Or change your belts. The belts on the car , any car, will some times dry out . Causing that rubber on metal/rubber screeching .

I hope that is the problem and nothing more serious..

..hehe.. On the other hand the whine could be on an aftermarket supercharger system too :P *wink*wink*

My money is on electrical interference. Esp. since it gets worse when the radio is turned up. That wouldn't have any effect on belts I can think of.

Thanks guys! I've spoken to my audio technician and he thinks it might be a grounding issue. I'll be taking my baby in for a check up soon. Will update you all.

Grounding problem ? Mm...if that is the case, why is the noise coming from the engine ? It ( the interference) should be coming out from your speakers. Does your backlight on your dash sometimes dim or has like an intermitten fluttering ?
