I'm new to this forum, just want to check with you guys who owns a standard 6AT rx8 from PI, does it comes with HID lights? If not, can i change it to HID?

 

it comes with laser light and flood lights~ hehehehehe~

 

it's HID lah.....no need to change liao!

 

better still, factory HID, which means if LTA changes the law to only allow factory HID, we r ok!

But somehow, i think aftermarket HID is the last thing TP will catch us for.

But stock a bit orange so recommend to change to white bulb 7k type or like gliny's 10k type...

 

Ah cool!!!! Hey, how about if i want to change it to a bit purpleris ah??? Which bulb do you recommend??

 

i am using Philip 6K or 6.5K can't remember it purpleris in colour... btw original is Xenon not HID hehe

 

Just to check if I like to change to bluish white bulb, how many K should I go for?

wats the diff between HID and xenon lights. Coz to my understanding, Xenon is the type of inert gas within the HID leh. Please advice...

 

HID is the system, xenon is the gas inside - same.

Stock is 4,300k, and gives lots of light, anything with a higher k will lose some of the light - if you go to 6000k you lose the yellows, but the lamp looks brighter, because blue is now more prevelant, lose some of the whites at 8000k and the lamp now looks purplish, and tends to dazzle oncoming traffic.

Anything higher than 8000k will attract cops like a magnet.....

Yup, colour temp above or below 4.1-4.3k reduces brightness (effective luminosity?), that's why most cars with factory HIDs have bulbs in that range. Halogens, which have a temp of 2.5k or below, produces light which is also not very visible.

Halogen = filament in inert gas produces light
HID = gas itself produces light

 

so since the basic rx8 does not come with HID, then has anyone done a HID conversion with LTA approved?

 

the basic 8 does come with HID, just at a lower colour temp (yellower) than aftermarket....nobody gives halogen liao.

i think if you change to bluer HID, don't bother getting LTA approval as long as they're aligned properly and don't shine too high.

 

i'm using 10k..hehe. bit purple liao. u want confirm purple use 12k

 

wah, if i use such a high output bulb, will the car electrical be able to handle it? Will it burn the cable out and cause a fire hazard????

 

Dun worry, higher colour temp doesn't mean higher thermal temp...ie, doesn't mean it's hotter. It also doesn't mean it's brighter. It's just the colour.

Anway, the older Halogen bulbs are hotter and use more current than HIDs.

12k very white leh my mini use 12k it white one but i burn off 2sets liao now using 9500k.... too white until it make no diff when i on n off unless NS highway in the night whooo!!!

i noe HID-conversions are all illegal...but if ur car came factory-fitted wif HID in the 1st place, and u change them to a higher/lower color-temp..dis is considered a 'conversion'?

 

muffyn it upgrade haha not conversion, HID already how to HID conversion haha so it called upgrade the bulbs haha....
