Help, Regarding GT Wing!

Hi guys, i'm planning to get a GT wing for my ride but i know nothing about it..>_< Hope fellow bros here can help me answer a few question:

1.How many type of GT wing is there in the market? Are they specially designed for Rx8 or universal fitting to all car?

2.What's the function of it, heard its something to do with down force? Personally i think it looks nice only. =P

3.What wing suit 8 the most? Of coz i know diffrent people have diffrent taste, can u share what do you like? =)

4.If i would to buy replica wing, does it look the same as original? Quality doesn't matter.

best you go for their meetups bro....its easier to explain the wings when you're actually looking at one mounted on a RX.

most important is that your wing doesn't protrude out of your car's width and height, plus the stands that hold the wing up must not be metallic, damn LTA regulations.

cheers!

MAS= Monetory Assoc Singapore?

Since we're on this topic, hope you guys can enlighten me on the following:

For those who have an existing Wing inplaced or bright enough to shed some light,

1. Whats Wing span are you guys currently on and WHY? 55" 59" 61" (Esthetic, Compliance, Safety in mind)

2. Whats your Weight of your setup inclusive with Stand??

3. Why cannot metal stand? What alternative?

4. Is FRP material suitable as an alternative to the CF?

Thanks, await for your input..

jtan: some of the local rxs were just up there at Sepang last weekend....=)

inxs: refer to LTA's website for more details. GT wings are actually in the grey area currently, but if you can get hold a wing that has fibreglass or composite stands, then not a prob. wing cannot be metallic in structure....thats a no-no. weight of wings will vary depending on the length and material it's being made...Carbon fibre is usually the lightest, but more exp on the $ side. fibreglass wings are slightly heavier, but cheaper in cost. try checking out C-West or Varis, they make pretty decent wings. alternatively, you can stick to the standard Mazda RX8 wing...low, simple yet aggressive....

Thanks for your advise.. will spray it black

Btw, By adjusting the inclination of the wing helps doesnt it? Pardon my ignorance, in college i learn only about Gravitional Force, Centripetal force, uplift force and Force is the only way to resolve issues...

Jon, you have to see my frens MX5....... Wide body, Super GT-Wing (1600mm) and superb rear diffuser.... I told him that the wing will drag his car down......It's very noticeable when car is on the road........ Installing stiffer coilover will be better for him......

lennon: reason why i took mine off was because lately, i've been bitten by the 'clean' look, instead of the Fast&Furious GT wing look previously....

also, i'm only at around 125 or less bhp....more downforce doesn't add up....if i got about 200 or more....by all means..i'll put on wings everywhere man! hahahaha...

catch up with your fren another time maybe? i'm still salivating for the C-West wing....so i can complete my whole set-up...keke....

end of the day bro, if you want to measure all those things, then best to spend some money and put it thru a wind tunnel.....that would highlight all the figures out for ya to decide. =) most ppl put the wings on for aesthetic means...not performance.....

cheers!

Forgive my "old-fartness"...
I just don't get the whole GT Wing thing...
It is not my intent to flame anyone, I'm just trying to understand why
some people have a desire to "rice" the 8 with this monstrosity...?
Please explain.

Thats what a forum is all about. Personal opinion, think about it...

If you were a suit, an addition pair of cufflings will be nice. You stand out.
If you and your neighbour had a 50cents Macdonald's ice cream cone, you would wish yours had chocolate fudge toppings.

Cheers Mate

You wont understand stability the GT Wings gives....... Simply because you have the mentality of "rice"........

guess it was during that phase of Fast & Furious movies, that the GT wing hit most car modders.....it was the fad for that period of time, and from time to time you still get to see some crazy ***** on the streets with some HUGE wings.

but its slowly fading out now.....and it all depends on the individual who's modding his or her ride. besides, SOME rides look awesome with the wings...some don't.....

its not about "rice"ing our rides with the wings, but it doesn't have to originate from asian street culture ya? i've seen some wierd **** going on over in SoCal when i was studying there back then......so it goes both ways...

cheers!

*copied from a website i used to read very often*

Who/What Exactly Is a Rice-Boy?

Rice-Boy is a stereotype. The typical Rice-Boy can be identified by his car, or rather what he does to it. Generally, Rice-Boy will start out with a car that was not meant to go fast (typically a Honda Civic), and attempt to "fix it up," usually consisting of aftermarket rims, lowering springs and an aftermarket exhaust system with a large exhaust tip.

Most Rice-Boy cars (or "Rice Rockets") have the usual complement of stickers proudly displaying features that the car might or might not have, most notably, the Honda VTEC sticker from the later model Preludes, and the plaques from the later model Integras.

Maybe you guys might have a good laugh reading/viewing this website.

its so funny it hurts
