After whacking hard on my car, less than 6K RPM
theres a smelly burning smell coming from the aircon
is it supposed to be there?

Have you been goin hard with the aircon on.

I have this kinda burning smell whenever I push my car since day one. Relax, it's found on every RX8.

I used to have that problem few months back on occasions when I drive hard ... don't encounter it nowadays though ... my mechanic told me the reason before but forgot what it was already ... Nothing to worry about though ... my 8 still runs fine ...

Any bros know what the prob is?

It is quite normal this smell comes about. Just try sealing the aircon intake permenantly and the smell wil disappear.

i going to buy the trust rotary oil

1st servicing use rotary oil? then next 5000km change again? bro.... wait til after 15,000km then use watever racing oil.... 3 servicings freee

Had the same problem too.
Was told by my SE could b from the new brakes....
Went around smelling the tyres ( like a dog ) only not duin wat it would hv done next..... :D

Sent car in today 4 some touch up.

From mechanics ---
could b unburn fuel reacting with the coating in the exhaust. Once the coating stablelised, the smell will go away...

false..i presume... cos i still had the same problem now n then when i rev hard......and my mileage already at 30k. duno wats the problem thou.. but believe that must be from the tyre.

bro you when wif frens? i receive a call from a fren on last saturday.. he was at tokyo too.. ask if i wuld like get anyting...and i made up my mind on the AutoExe undercarriage brace... he said good price for the whole set. :D

experience the same burning smell too.

separately, when I just start the car and moving off in 1st gear, there is a light "klang" sound, not sure from where. anyone else experience that? only happens when car just started.

i m thinking about sealing off the aircon intake or changing the filter wool to a higher quality one...
i cant take the smell... itz horrible...
need to do something about it quick...
any bad effects if i seal off the aircon intake?

Just a thought....have you tried setting yer aircon at recirculate instead of fresh air intake? Wondering if that helps to block the smell.

Totally normal for all 8's, it's the ABS self-test.
