Fuel Consumption Survey!

Hi guys, can you please state the type of Rx8 you are driving (4AT, 6AT, 5MT or 6MT) and give a rough estimate for your FC... And also some tips on Rotary Engine Oil. Mineral or Synthetic... and also how often do you change it...

Cheers...
Newbie Rx8 Driver.

Hey dave, you know this is a Asia thread. They do their own thing, talk their own talk. Leave 'em be.

BTW i bought another vehicle for a daily driver so that I could get better gas mileage. The vehicle?

2002 Chevy Silverado. Seriously.

Holy shitz dude. 5km/l?? On a stock car??

Thats ridiculous and a SURE sign that something is very wrong with the car bro. Go get it checked out - seriously.

What size wheels you running? Is your tire pressure at the recommended levels? Are you using fuel additives like Octane boosters? If you are? Stop. They aint good for the car bruv and certainly aint good for your wallet. When was your car last serviced?

I'm on a end '05 6MT and I do 375km on a full tank. This is purely urban driving with next to no expressway driving which would probably increase my FC. That works out to be about 7.2km/l on an average of a 52L full tank (I think the tank is 55L but I dont like leaving it that close) for me. Unfortunately the only expressway I could use to work is the CTE and we all know how much of an 'express'way that really is.

Last thing I'm using Caltex. Find it does actually clean your engine somewhat and I feel that the engine is smoother and more responsive than when I was using any other premium fuel (and no I dont work for Caltex just in case ur wondering lol).

Fuel additives has nothing to do with fuel consumption.

And using the rx8 on the expressway may actually give u better mileage than urban driving.... for other cars not sure. FOr rx8, very sure.

My point exactly. Thats why I said for him to stop using them.

Yup you are right on that which is why I stressed that I'm doing mainly Urban driving. Stop start traffic = burn more fuel than cruising at consistant highway speeds.

And since ur online now Ivan, you joining us 2nite or what bro?

Keen to settle this once and for all.

Its a lot easier to sit down and talk than to do it via forums. Forums have this nasty habit of conveying messages that you dont want.

Case in point when you had to apologise for your english (which seems fine to me) just in case it offended me.

I am of course not offended in the least - but it reinforces my point that forums really aint the best way to communicate or solve issues.

Once again I dont need you there to pay for drinks. I hardly even know you, why should you pay for me? I would however appreciate a smile and a handshake.

The rest would then be up to just how sincere the two of you really are in settling things and I guess thats the whole point of this meet. Just find it a shame that things have turned out the way they have thats all.

Anyway I'm done trying to push for a resolution. Not like I'm getting paid to do this **** anyway. Would have been nice if everyone got along well and we had regular 50 car Sepang trips. But if it does not happen then tough **** - thats life right?

By the way, I think you guys are hijacking the thread.

580km per tank? How on earth did u manage that? My best is only 520km per
tank...mostly night driving on the expressway, without mods except for rims,
redline it twice, rest of the time drives like an auntie, had to pump 54l of
petrol back in after that...so it works out to be ard 9.5km/l...

As for the engine oil, only use mineral n synthetic oil made for rotary...ordinary
synthetic will damage ur engine...mineral oil confirm must change every 5000km...
synthetic rotary oil can stretch up to 10000km i heard but best still change during
5000km...

Rei.. dun think synthetic rotary oil can stretch til 10,000km. Most probably the majority of the engine oil would have been burned off by 5,000km anyway. I think you should still change at 5,000km regardless of mineral or synthetic engine oil.

now I know how much they really noe abt the rotary...thanks for the info,
bro...

Hmm...but that only means 1 thing...monster garage....here I come...its a state
