Hi ray,

From the aas site:

Displacement: 1997
Max Power (BHP): 280
Max Torque (Nm/rpm): 392
Top Speed (KPH): 253
0-100 KPH (SECS): 5.3
Price ARF ($): 159,988

Doesn't list the fuel consumption.

Spend $20k more than the 8 to shave 0.8 secs off the 0-100 KPH time....but can also hit 253 if can find a place around here to do so

Is it 6.4 secs for the high power MT 8 in Sing since it's the Euro S? Road & Track on the NA model say it's 6.1 secs.

Hmmmmm.. ray
u thinking of changing to Evo 8? very diff beast. Have not tried 0 to 100 yet, car onli few days old hahaha. The ride is fantastic and the stick is no longer so stiff. Car is quite wide so be careful when reverse parking. My mate fix the reverse sensor on the number plate frame from Pin Liang so no ugly drilling on the bumper. Can't wait to drive everyday... even wife get jealous.

Think around $400 including new car plates and GST. Need to change the original car plate becos there are 2 screw holes there unless u are not too particular and use back the original plate but does not look very nice.

Maybe can fix a camera instead of reverse sensor Haha...can also serve as a display screen to watch DVD. Park your car somewhere cool at night, get a coke and popcorns. Voila..... your very own "drive in" show.

hi Ray,

I drive the AT myself . the engine does rev up on starting when cold but does return to normal quite fast. anyway as for the evo, you'll be getting a whole lot more torque n acceleration from that beast....also wif simple mods like an ECU change, u will be seeing 300 + hp, the only prob is that your fuel consumption can get real bad with the evo....about 6km / l...

hope that helps

thanks for the update EBS.

Manwe i wouldnt want to risk having croaches in the car.

As for the pickup for auto that is reallllly sad..... i thought that it wouldnt be much of a difference compared to MT maybe at least 8+ but 9....

Sorry, but that's the price for the convenience of the auto box. Every magazine and every review I read advised to stay clear of the auto. Okay.. I'm exagerating, not every one of them mentioned about the auto but those that did reported disappointing performance. To each his own... I'm sure there are many auto 8 owners who are perfectly happy.

Maybe there are other ways to drive the car. Such as using lower gear to start.... instead of D...., switching the DSC off, stepping on accelerated while still on breaks(since your left leg is idle)... But I'll bet they sure push the car real hard to get impressive timing to show off....am I am sure you wouldn't be doing it to your baby.

hey rayshaw,
mazda made the auto version more bias to 'drivin pleasure' instead of 'sports'...
even the 5MTs is usin a stronger 1st gear then the autos.auto's shift fr 1st-2nd is kinda 'open' too, hence, many precious nano-secs r lost over here again...

even the papers also call it "more poser than racer"

as 'zapp branigan' would call - "it sickens me"

It is a look good car... for a reasonably affordable price. Though reports always say that koreans are almost catching up with the japanese, they are....still catching up after all.

Sat in a friend's RX8 today (manual gear). The way he floored the accelerator, no way any 2 or 3 can catch up. I am veri sure.

Next meet up, ask to test drive or test ride in a manual lor. Since you already know how the auto feels.
