Engine Oil Top Up

Just like to check how often you guys have to top up engine oil. Had my 8 serviced about 3 weeks ago and ran about 1.5K km on her. Checked today and the dip stick was at 1/3 mark, so topped up some engine oil.

The only time i had to top up was when i went 8k without servicing. Most of the time it is still full.

One thing i've noticed, I've used both mineral(only the first 2 change) and syn oil and I only need to top up for mineral and not syn.

Engine Oil

Seems like mine is a bit unusual then. Have 6500 km on the clock so far and have to top up twice. Once was before the 1st servicing at 4000 km and now at 6500 km. Wondering whether long intervals between servcing could be a cause for this, car was 1 yr old when I brough it in for the 1st servcing at 5000 km.

Driving habit wise, I rarely rev above 5k rpm and get about 380 km per tank full.

Will call MM to ask them.

I've had my RX-8 for a couple of weeks and notice that the oil level is a bit low. Can anyone tell me what kind of oil they use in new RX-8s or what I can use to top it off with until I get a full oil change over to synth?

red61, noticed you're from Massachusetts. The type of oil you use there may be different from us here in the tropics, so I'd advise you to check with the dealership where you bought your RX-8.

hONEST to me RX 8 don't use Sym oil...

Some may show label syn oil but actually it is semi syn like trust product

cause using syn oil oil on RX 8 may cause leak or even damage to the engine...

CF/SL oil will do but rem no syn oil...

Haha another extinct topic brought out again. MM has official letter from Japan. The 8 rotary can take both Synthetic and Mineral oil so u can use whatever type that pleases u.

Cheers
