Does your RX8 understeer or oversteer

Hi all 8's,

Have spoke to few of my friends on the 8.... it seem that they claim the car is either oversteer or understeer.... BUT.... saw a video from TOPGEAR...UK verdit on cars...they say is perfect.... does you guys have an problem on the steer issue...

BTW, i'm not a hardcore speed moster on the road ....just love to sight-seeing while driving.... therefore a good brake is very important... :p

I speed a lot... on the track LOL

When I hit the brake hard, very hard. Most weight is shift on the front and I can have a little oversteer into the corner, but when the throttle is applied, it can be easily controlled.

It does not seem to understeer when you trail braking *(please let me know if you want to explain further), which is great.

Love this little car, it can be pushed so hard. And the weight shift is not dreamatic - beauty :ccol:

Hi Takahashi.... Thanks for the feedback... Saw the video.... it hit hard and easily control..... must be skillful for that....

Till today, still don't understand the meaning of oversteer and understeer...just knowing either move outward or inward... It be great if you can explain.... if you have the time.....

Oversteer is pulling = the rear tyre skid and the rear of the car flicks out. It is more happen on the power, also known as power slide - well when it is controlled

Understeer is pushing = the front tyre skid and the front of the car will not turn and the front goes wide. It is more likely to happen when the car is too far in the corner - the car just go straight

the way to correct understeer is to brake VERY hard and pray :o
you have gone too fast.

Oversteer is much easier to control. A little bit of that and a little bit of that

The way to control minor spin is to opposite of what created it; if too much power, ease of power. if too much brake, ease off brake.

You can make a car either understeer or oversteer. You can do it either with mods or you can simply do it with your driving. A car is rarely simply an "oversteer-er" or "understeer-er" all the time, though some are more prone to do one than the other.

Yes, if you had to pick, the RX-8 would be "balanced"; it does neither excessively. But that just means that you can induce either over or understeer on your own, through your own driving, very easily.

The best example that sigma commented on is tyre pressure, another is suspension damper setting....

Are you a natural understeerer or oversteerer in your RX-8? I still oversteer in a FF... but since the track instructer tells me to downlift later and later in the braking zone, I am getting more balanced in fast turns. :o

Too right Taka! On the latest trek through Malaysia last Sat I was oversteering like mad on the turns from Kluang towards Desaru....just ask Hoks and Morgan who were behind me and witnessed my rear end shaking around. Plus, I kept getting fender rubs over the pitches in the roads. Couple of factors....1) my tire pressure was too low, should have topped it up, and 2) just had the hipermax II's installed and lowered the car the day before...albeit too low. Noticing the soft damper settings, I tightened them up on the fronts when the left rear damper controller cable broke and therefore couldn't adjust the left rear. Going forward, the scraping was much less, but the imbalance of the damper settings caused even worse oversteer. I held it together ok, but I'm getting the coilovers adjusted to a bit higher.

the car is quite well composed, I find that I get a little low speed oversteer on realy tight turns, like a 180* UTurn for example...of course with some throtle in the right gear this can be blalanced out or turned into oversteer.

I havent really taken many corners at highspeed. but it feels a little more oversteer.

Also the understeer I mentioned above turns to oversteer in the same situation if its wet.

I love the way the car responds, very much like the miata, part of the reason i bought it.

"Its like a miata, with 4 seats and suspension travel
