Question Brake component replacements

Hi guys,

I have a 2-3month old RX8. I wanna join in one of the track days. But I need replace my pads and fluid, probably also the brake lines. I'm trying to find a place in singapore to get decent brake pads.

Looking at getting
1) Hawk Brake pads (or even better Porterfield pads).
2) Motul or ATE brake fluid (SuperDOT or DOT4)
3) GoodRidge SS brake lines

I've been having a hard time trying to find places that carry these two brands.
I would be really grateful if someone could point me to the right place.

OR If you have good suggestions for subsitutes to these, i'm open to it

Thanks in Advance!

RX8 might not be the fastest car at Sepang .... but this car is a very well balance car. It is indeed a very capable car if it is driven correctly. For starters the stock brake (from MM) works very well. Been running on complete stock car every time at Sepang and unless you are running your car for extended time (ie more than 4hr track day time) the brake will neva fail you ..... but then again we are not talking about some Merdeka Endurance run here ..... we are all just amateur driver ... therefore dun think any mod will benefit the lap time yet ......... until you become capable of unleashing the full potential of the RX8 then perhaps it is the right time to upgrade the brakes .... suspensions ....... and the powerplant. Meanwhile lets just enjoy wat our RX8 can do ...afterall we bought the car becoz of all the excellent review it received from the pro ....don't we ?

agree with u, the 8 handling is top notch. We cun beat most cars on straights, but on bends, we are fantastic.

yup yup yup ..... in fact I was at Sepang the other day practising and saw one Evo 9 there as well. I was indeed catching up with him at the long straight bend 5 all the way till bend 6 and probably he was pressured by me tail gating him and finally loss it at bend 6. His car in fact spun and almost crash into mine.....well .....as I said the brake works very well and therefore managed to stop in time. I am not saying Rx8 is faster than Evo9 .. in fact it is impossible our rotary can take on the 2.0 ltr turbo charged 4wd... but all I am saying if one can really drive properly yet and straight jump to those ultra high power car ..... even the best performance car can't improve your lap time. Bottom line is .. upgrade your own skill before touching your car. Just my 2 cents worth ...... Not to offend anyone though. Just sharing my tots here....

Exactly. Its not totally the car that matters; its the person behind the wheel.

Hi, Coupe07 and jetblast. Any brake dust issue after change to Autoexec? Original Mazda pads has lots of dust and did complaint to MM, but no action taken.

U can't complain about brake dust to Mazda, in fact not to any other brand dealers as well. quite alot of the original brakes that come stock will have alot of brake dust. cos the factory consider cost and performance factor into their operation cost.

Those harder and cheaper brake pads (less dust). will not work as good as those softer brake pads (more dust) (considering both are of the same price and value)

Actually I understand how u feel. considering paying $130K for a car. we should get better brake pads when compare to paying $130K for BMW 3 series.

I think the brake dust built up on the stock pads are acutally pretty ok... all my previous cars had roughly the same level of brake dust built up ."stock pads". But i mostly had Carbon Kevlar pads on most of the time, so my comparison might be a little biased. Gone are my tracking days.... sad

Just wax your wheels, way easier to clean. Use sealant "wax" since they last longer and usually are cheaper :P
I use "Nu finish" relatively strong stuff for cleaning and sealing... but can't find it in singapore.

But I do agree that driver skill is mostly important. but after saying that, I would have said, get some bucket seats first.. How effective are your driving skills if your "bum" can't feel the car. haha

yes agree with you .... but to remove the original leather seat to the bucket one..... err.....a bit sayang leh. But then again will really consider doing so coz the bucket seats look damn cool and feeling the car is the key to skillful driving. Perhaps i am more interested in reducing the body roll of the RX8 6MT MM spec. At times at the track I must admit the car does feel a little on the soft side when taking bends. Perhaps some anti roll bar will help... any comment?

Brake dust repellant

I used to use NU Finish on the wheels, with little satisfaction.

I found a product by Prestone called Brake dust repellant, comes in a blue spray bottle, that makes it really easy to clean off the dust. It doesn't fully repel the dust but it can be wiped off with a dry cloth with ease (one wipe no scrub). Needs reapplication about once every month or two depending on weather.

Hi guys,

I've been having some issues with the brake dust. I got my ride second-hand, so I don't know if the previous owner changed the brake pads. The thing is... the front wheels get dirty very quickly (just 30 mins ride after I cleaned the rims) but the rear wheels are ok. Seems a bit strange cuz the RX-8 is RWD, so I'd think the rear wheel brakes should work harder than the front. Is this normal?

Before my trip to Sepang . alot of people told me that the front brakes are more important and some of them had their Front brakes pads change to a higher quality and more expensive ones and some also change to a 4-6 port brake caliper.
Leaving their Rear Stocks.

This is what I experience on my Sepang Track day.
The instructor that drove and demo what the Rx8 can do in a bend and can overtake an Evo and Sti during a bend. 120-130 around a quite sharp bend (where I can only do it in 80-90 km/h)
Just after 2-3 laps I can smell some thing is burning. only when I alight the car , I can see the Rear Brake smoking.

The rear brake is so hot that even the red paint on the Rear Caliper also starts to bubble.

So in conclusion. I believe that the rear brakes is equally as important compare to the front one.

I changed out the front brake pads and dropped in a set of Endless Sports-S type pads. They're not necessarily racing pads, but do handle higher temps than the stocks and will recover faster if you're at the track. The best part of these pads is that they're ceramic. With no steel materials, dust is definitely minimal compared to the stock steel pads. Performance wise, the front brakes do feel a bit more responsive, but not significantly so....now is the time to add the autoexe mastervac

Did you off your DSC? It may be braking the inner rear tyre, thus the hotter rear brake.

contrary to ur belief, RWD car doesnt mean the rear have better brakes, or shld work harder than the front... in all types of car, the front always has the greater braking power... dats y all the front calipers for all cars are bigger than the rear.

back to the brake dust problem. if there is a lot of brake dust, then the previous owner shld not have changed the brake pads. The original brake pads from Mazda gives out a lot of brake dust....
