First off go to a body repair shop and get at least one estimate. Have them inspect the bumper and make sure there is no damage UNDERNEATH that can't be seen. Beyond that its really a matter of preference/experience. If you know a good private shop go there or if you know and trust the dealer more go with them. Personally I wouldn't settle for anything less than 100% of repair costs.

either settle privately if the taxi driver is a good man, OR claim jia lat jia lat.... change the whole bumper with spray paint. Hit behind, most likely u can claim 100%.

I heard about this guy who got hit from behind by a taxi at a traffic light. The taxi driver told the insurance company that the guy reversed into him!

WTF... these taxi drivers got no morals... guess what they discuss over coffee everyday? Yup... stuff like these... how to get away in an accident. In fact, if you get into an accident with a taxi, take a video or photo immediately with your phone to prove that there's no passengers in his taxi. Cuz they're notorious for getting another taxi driver to pose as a passenger who witnessed that it's your fault in those ambiguous cases.

i suggest that you or get someone experience to inspect. This is to determine if there is any damage ( beyond what nake eye can see ). If not , send to a spray shop to get it done up. this way , MM will not have any record of yr "accident"

However, if the damage is more than that, it will be more advisable to go back to MM to have fully repair. For that , u will probably need to claim the taxi's insurance jialat jialat !

just my tot.
If i'm in yr position, it will depend on how the taxi driver "behave" after the accident. Most likely, i will send to MM to get it repair by the agent !

Sorry to hear about all the accidents lately especially with taxis. I had a small incident with a taxi who cut into my lane despite me blasting my horn at him. Result: minor dent, swapped bumper rubber marks and a broken signal light cover. Even though the taxi driver was clearly at fault, he refuse to compensate me because he knows he can get away with it as it was a 'side swipe' case and claims are usually 50%/50% which means that if I claim against him and he claims against me, I will still likely suffer a hit on my insurance. Besides, the cost of repair is less than my excess so no point to claim anyway. So in other words, I LPPL (PG: no choice) have to swallow the repair bill myself.

As you can imagine, I was rather pissed. More at myself, because I had toyed and tested the idea of installing an on-board camera and recorder but stopped short of actually getting a recording device. This incident just gave me all the reasons and motivation to realise my camera recording system idea. So now if any taxi uncle (or auntie or anyone else) causes an accident and tries to be funny, I can invite them into my car and watch a 'reality tv' accident and instantly demand compensation before we talk any further. I'm gonna install a similar setup in my friend's car too. If anyone is interested, feel free to PM me for more info.

Freestyle: My sis and parents witness a taxi reversing into another taxi at the traffic light.

sqflyer: Most cabbies are downright dirty when it comes to such circumstances. Because they hang around with other cabby kakis, so they always exchange pointers on how to sian and benefit from such incidents.

This car-camera always reminds me of those clips of in Amazing video or max X. Highway patrol cars, etc.

I agree totally. From my personal experience: another car that I was driving was hit from behind, nothing that looked like a good waxing could not handle, and agreed to a minor cash settlement.

It was only a while later that I noticed that the reverse sensors were acting up, and the only conclusion was that it happened during the accident. In the end forked out 3 times the cash settlement for replacement of the reverse sensors.

Hope this helps.

u mean one taxi driver u know of has no morals - there would only need to be one taxi driver with morals before your comment sounds a bit ignorant - too generalized - cut the taxi's a break - some of them are good guys.....

the phone and picture thing is a great idea, regardless of who u r in an accident with - luckily most rx-8 nerdos such as ourselves take alot of "before" pics - what to do depends on what your situation is - was there a police report - what is your deductible - what state are u in as it affects the laws concerning the accident - if u take your car to a mazda dealership - they are a good place to go to see exactly what is wrong with your car - u may want a certain place to do the body work - after they are done take it back to the same mazda place and see if they missed anyting - I had a kia throw a semi tire at me - after all was fixed my dealer noticed a motor mount problem and the body shop had to fix it - I would have missed it had they not noticed......good luck.
