Blown

Don't know why I can't entering the site 2 days ago. But finally I'm here.

2 days ago my engine blown. Early symptom was the exhaust sound become louder. After several time over red line, Out of a sudden the rpm dropped and whole car shaking. Unable to push more than 3k rpm. The whole engine shaking.

Lesson 1 : Don't ram the car if the exhaust sound suddenly become louder.
Lesson 2 : Don't watch too much anime
Lesson 3 : Should keep a complete set of seals at home.

Thanks Wangan for helping me.

I bought a recond one. 22k mileage. I just drove about 2-3k km. Root cause unknown yet. But more than 50% I seriously ram the car and 5% over red line (probably I watch too much anime :D). I think the problem is my right foot. Seldom can find a car doesn't riot against me.

Er... i think its the Redline problem. too much redline, the apex seal broken. this car will not give more power after 9000 rpm. so going redline is useless bro. too much initial D. hahahahaha

u didn't modify anything in the car right?

i have an auto, got it with 30000km, now already 62000km. no problem yet ne.

I changed engine oil and gear/LSD oil right after I drove the car away from the dealer. The car was modified. So far, for engine performance, found the intake was Greddy kit, TREC electronic throttle control and RE super dolphin. The rest unknown. I added the the light weight pulley kit later on. Blown at 9.5k rpm (don't ask me how many times, cuz when I start it from static point on a straight road, seldom don't reach 9.5k rpm on the 1st and 2nd gear, if nothing blocking in front). I believed it was due to my bad driving habit. But then again, if I wanna drive like a nanny, may as well just get a merz or bmw.

Bro, i believe its not the way u drive. but the air intake + exhaust combo. no offence, i am just trying to get the fact, it might be too lean for the car to run. i believe the ecu is not tuned, after all these installed.

Complete seals are not entirely the story, you still need engine blocks, becos most probably your engine is condemned....

Probably you didn't give a chance for engine oil to run in....... Over rev is not encouraged........

Yup, agree with lennon......

Most likely ur "rotor housings" also damaged already..... If extreme case, ur "housing walls" (not ur house arrr ....its ur engine parts ) also damaged........

Ive been thru this situation many many times b4 with my previous Rx7...... Its always a good idea to keep a spare engine kosong (preferably rebuilt with new apex seals, side seals etc etc) on standby.....!!!

If i can locate a reasonably priced Rx8 half cut in the future, u can be sure i'll buy it...... The thing with RE engines is..... Its not whether it'll break, BUT.... when will it break...... Blown engine is more or less imminent..... There's no escaping it..... No matter how good u tune it, pamper it, service it ....... Its just something RE enthusiasts have to live with .

^ the same thing can be set of a piston engine. eventually all mechanical items will beak.

There's no reason to think it's impossible to see the RENESIS engine hit 300k miles.

compression test = 0.6 . No white smoke. I guess (and hope) the housing and rotor still ok. Of cause, if can get a halfcut and put at home is the best. Even only the engine is good enough.

Anyway, anyone knows anywhere can do a dyno tune for SE3P in Malaysia or Singapore, with emanage ultimate or etc? Maybe theboy said may be true also. But I'll try to control my right foot a bit next time. The lesson very expensive $$$$

CSL,

Check out this website which teaches about rebuilding rotaries. Not asking you to DIY, but it's just good info.

Thanks. very good demo. It is possible for DIY. But need a lot of tools. Torque wrench very expensive. Of cause, need an overhead crank or something to lift the engine out. Special tools probably can't get from most hardware shop.

Theboy has a point. If the previous owner was running too lean then there is the risk of detonation which will pretty much result in your apex seals, rotor housing, etc breaking which will pretty much lead to your engine dying. Either way it will not hurt to get your ECU tuned (assuming you have any engine management capabilities or know a tuner shop that does) after you get the engine reconditioned just to play safe!

Sorry to hear that you've blown your motor tho bro - good luck and hope you get it back on the road soon!

p.s...The Renessis has a wide power band, but it starts to lose power late in the game (8000 rpms and above by my butt dyno ) so going redline is not actually efficient bud!

When my short throw shifter arrive, probably don't need to red line to maintain the rpm.

Hey there, If you are going to rebuild your engine, I can supply some aftermarket apex seals for you, Would be a good idea so no breakages occur in the future, destroying rotor and housing etc...
I am currently installing some of these seal in my 4port 5mt, which is ported and ready for Knighsports supercharger kit..
the pirce of these seals are $600aud.
I use them in EVERY Rotary engine i build, and have had no problems..

If interested drop me a line at info@revs-online.com..
