Best place to install ATF cooler?

Hi guys, collecting my ride Thurs, and one of the first things i'm doing will be:

- engine flush, replace with Trust FE2 at Autobacs
- install ATF cooler

Any recommendations on a good and reliable brand (Hayden?) and workshop to buy and install the ATF cooler? Anywhere other than McWell, very bad experiences with them.

thanks in advance

ATF = Auto Transmission Fluid Cooler?
Do u need to install a cooler for ATF?
Tot u might be installing additional Oil Cooler if u buy from PI, as it comes with only 1 Oil Cooler.
Sorry, correct me if am wrong.

ATF Oil Cooler or ATF Cooler is an additional to cool the auto tranny fluid/oil i think. Advantages are it can prolong the auto tranny and make shifting a little smoother.

There's only space in PI cars to install either an additional oil cooler, or the ATF cooler. For me, i'll choose the ATF cooler.

gfoo, I don't think you should replace the engine oil with Trust FE2 right away unless you are buying a 2nd hand 8. If your car is brand new, mineral oil is much better for running in the engine IMO. But you are right with the ATF cooler. Most auto 8s are better with 1 ATF and 1 oil cooler unlike the manual 8s that do better with 2 oil coolers.

phew, thanks for your recommendation. i thought Trust FE2 was like heavily recommended in some of the posts i read in the forum. To be honest, i also did read that synthetics were bad for rotary engines but seem like some bros swear by FE2. Is there any particular brand of mineral oil i should look out for?

also, what brand of ATF cooler is suitable for installation in the RX8 and where should i do it? Thinking of Garage R but heard that they are way expensive

Dun be swayed by some of the thing u read on forums......

FE2 by trust is heavily recommended by?? its a semi synthetic oil, and yes, its a rotary oil. But well.. good old mineral oil does the same job too, so long its the right mixture

seriously talking abt good, the true rotary oil from rotary tuners shld be the best.... trust and HKS dun specialise in rotary... the rotary oil from R magic, RE amemiya and mazdaspeed are all synthetic oil..... they are all renowned rotary tuners and they use synthetic oil... so we cun say they are bad either....

FE2.. well... semi synthetic oil at sky high prices... u judge urself...

Thanks coupe07. for either R magic, RE amemiya or mazdaspeed, where will I be able to get them? is there any trusted workshop i can send my car for servicing at (other than Garage R) that carries these?

Since my RX8 is brand new, want to be a little bit more kiasu and start off with all the right stuff to avoid probs later, esp since it is a PI car.

As the others said. Run in with mineral oil first.

ATF cooler is very recommended. Depends on budget. Most are good but if got $$$ of course ARC is best.

Installation in driver side intake is good but look too contrasting with a silver cooler. Other wise infront of radiator.

Syns IMO are still the best. I think HKS and Thrust also buy their oils from other OEMs and price up. In fact most tuners do that. Well, as long as you used a relatively good oil then its ok. No matter the brand.

gfoo, I have one Hayden ATF cooler in my storeroom. Let me know if you're interested. I made the mistake of asking my PI garage if they can install it. They say it will void my warranty, so now I'm just waiting for the warranty to finish before I can install.

I think it's possible to install both ATF cooler and a 2nd Oil cooler. Just install the ATF cooler at the front (with the AT/aircon radiator)and the 2nd Oil cooler on the right side where the oil cooler is for the 6MT.

Emperor, i found that on the Mazdaspeed oil cooler at japanparts.com, it say for MT. can it be used in 4AT? and is those pipes the same?

can you briefly recommend which one would be better for AT car? ATF or engine cooler?

You should get a atf cooler first. Cools the engine, cools the tranny, prolongs tranny life, etc.

I am looking to get a uprated oil cooler myself though i am in no hurry. What i feel its better to replace with one good one than add another one to the stock.
