Axial Flow short shifter
Axial Flow short shifter
Not sure if the Far East crew has been following the threads in the Tech forum on this subject, but I installed the SS a couple of weeks back for my 6MT and wanted to say that it's awesome! It took less than an hour to install with only a set of needle nose pliers and a small 10mm wrench.
The SS is completely straight, whereas the stock is slightly bent to the right at the top of the shaft. The SS also doesn't have the rubber stopper to dampen the stop at the end of each throw (thanks for the confirm Gomez) so you experience a more direct, albeit mechanical, shift. The more I use it the more it feels so much better. Especially best with the 2-3 shift where the tightness of the shifter leads to extremely fast shifts.
The only negative is the increase in gear noise, but after a while it really doesn't matter. There are a few tricks to reduce the noise and they work, unless you have a habit of resting your hand on the shift **** while driving (that action puts pressure on the syncro holder and shift fork according to the designer).
One interesting thing...I've found that for 1-2 shifts I need to nail the gas sooner else engine vibrations really kick in, but that's just a matter of keeping the revs up in pace with the fast throw
