Anyone in Thailand that knows about importing
I am most likely moving from the US to Thailand in about 3 months and I want to bring my RX-8 with me. I see that the tax is like 143% to permanently ship it but I think I can temporarily ship it and avoid paying that. I was wondering if anyone knows about this and also about shipping cars from Japan to Thailand and what costs would be involved in that as well. Any information regarding these topics would be of great help. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure how your US model Rx-8 will do in Thailand as we are Right Hand Drive. The import tax should be lower depending on how old your car is and how many miles it has-----you would have to check details with the customs dept.
As for importing cars directly from Japan, you will get burned if you try to do it independently as they will tax you for everything they can possibly find. It is better to use the services of car import companies who have good contacts with the customs dept and hence would be able to import cars in for you at a cheaper price.

U.S model are left hand drive, where in South East Asia (Thailand), we are on the right hand drive. So importing a left hand drive car is very difficult. Unless you are on diplomat assignment where they will give you exception.
