10th June Track Day, RE and others, whole day event!

Hi Bros,

The Event Schedule is finally out! They are below but a few details 1st.

CONVOYS
We will be organizing two Convoys this time to provide more options for everyone.
If either of the convoy is however too small, say 3 cars or less… we might have only 1 convoy then.

GROUPS on Track
We can choose to have either instructors or to have no instructors this time. However for 1st timers, you will be placed in Group 1. Please read the following and choose the group you would like to be in. For group 3, you will have to let us know the amount of track experience you have.

Group one (1)
This is where you begin. One-on-one guidance from experienced drivers is provided, as you learn to control your car and yourself. Your instructor will provide you with information on techniques, racing lines, braking points, safety guidelines and track etiquette as you learn to drive at the limit. You will address how to approach a turn, the fast way around it, what gear should you be in, how to brake, and how to exit. Passing is limited in the Group 1 Sessions to the straights.
Group two (2)
Either your instructor has determined you can drive on your own and with less supervision or you have previously been on the track and feel you can be safe without an instructor in the car with you. The pace is faster, but the passing rules are similar to Group 1 in the beginning sessions. Passing rules however get more relaxed at the end of the day.
Group three (3)
You have progressed to the world of high performance driving. Group 3 is for drivers that are familiar with the track, rules and safety and are able to comfortably share the track at high speed with others. Passing rules in group 3 are not as strict.

PREPERATION
1) Everycar should have a HP which has autoroam... so we will not be totally be cut off when we break off from the convoy.
2) Walkie talkie in every car recommended
3) Toolbox, basic tools and touchlight in every car recommended, just in case you break off from the convoy where the mechanic car is, and you need to do some very basic repairs or adjustments.
4) All indemnity forms filled up before arriving in Sepang.

Hi JetBlast,

Group 4 is a Racer's Group. It is Catered for Experienced Drivers. For this event, they will consist of the Instructors and MME Racers(Merdeka Milenium
Endurance). They will be giving sponsor rides for the Media(Event Promotion) and for the kids at Ronald Mcdonalds Childrens Charities.

We can join this group in the future when we have gained experience from Group 3.

Hi DonJuan,

Thanks for the giving us the info. After reading through quickly, a couple of questions came to mind. Maybe I didn't understand completely, so I'd better ask you to be sure.

Are those times AM or PM?? I'm assuming it's PM since you mentioned dinner and also because Friday is a working day. That time also quite peak time to be going into MY as all the Malaysians workers will be returning home and especially crowded on a Friday.

Bro, who are the people in Group 4? I don't mind other car groups, but just curious - from the event schedule, seems like Group 1, 2 & 3 already take up most of the day's track time. So my question is, are there other cars mixed in with our rotaries in Group 1, 2 & 3? Or other cars in Group 4 only?

Also, can you change groups during the day? For e.g., if choose to join Group 1 then gotta drive with instructor all day long? Can switch to Group 2 later in the day? But then again, if can switch then some people might wanna drive in Group 1 AND Group 2 slots. What are the rules about changing groups?

Hi Sqflyer bro,

Ok, try to ans yr qns.

1) Are those times AM or PM?? I'm assuming it's PM since you mentioned dinner and also because Friday is a working day. That time also quite peak time to be going into MY as all the Malaysians workers will be returning home and especially crowded on a Friday.

Ans: You are correct. Those times are PM. Its a dilemna choosing the times, cos if I made it like afternoon.... say leave bet 3pm to 5pm, most pp will have to take half day and Im not sure if pp can. And if I set the time to 9pm to avoid the Malaysian traffic, it might be too late cos we will reach destination 12plus or 1am plus...
Tell you what, how about I set to meet somewhere in SG meet for dinner at 7:15pm(perhaps at Jurong, corporation road near 24hr Macs-provide map later). Those who can join, meet for dinner. Those who cant, meet the group at 8:15 at the dinner destination. By the time go causeway, Jam should b minimal. What you think bro?

2) Bro, who are the people in Group 4? I don't mind other car groups, but just curious - from the event schedule, seems like Group 1, 2 & 3 already take up most of the day's track time. So my question is, are there other cars mixed in with our rotaries in Group 1, 2 & 3? Or other cars in Group 4 only?

Ans: Group 4 is a Racer's Group.
I believe we will not be able to join this group this time. It is purely for Racers and Media promotion. Moreover, if we have not join Group 3 before, it might not be possible to join Group 4.

This time round, the event is slightly different in categorisation. You choose the group which u think best fits you.. like in Grp 1 if you still like to learn more from instructors about driving on track, in Grp 2 if you feel you like you dont need guidance and like to track on your own.. So, inevitably you will meet other Piston rides mixed with our Non-Piston rides(Be nice to the Piston mates ). Unless you guys are so Gung-Ho and want a majority of Non-Piston rides in a group, you can register yourselves all in one Group :P:

Just to sum up, whether you choose Grp 1 or Grp 2( I'm not sure if we can join Grp3.. can check if you are pretty experience/confident and like to be in tat grp), we have 1 classroom session, 3 slots of 25min runs, 1 slot of 45min Open track time.

3) Also, can you change groups during the day? For e.g., if choose to join Group 1 then gotta drive with instructor all day long? Can switch to Group 2 later in the day? But then again, if can switch then some people might wanna drive in Group 1 AND Group 2 slots. What are the rules about changing groups?

Ans: Haha.... exactly what I was thinking when I first saw the program. I wanted to request the organiser to allow us the change group too... But after putting myself in his shoes, I didnt because I imagine it would be chaos and will give organisers a hard time controlling the groups. I suspect you can drive without an instructor if after the 1st round, the instructor feels that you are alright to drive on your own. So, you got to convicnce him Anyway, if you want to be on your own and put your car to limits, you have 45min in the Open time at 4:15pm.

4) Are suites available? Tot maybe can share bigger room with others and got bigger area to TKSS/play cards, etc.

Ans: I believe they will have.... but hv to check how much they cost and if most bros dun mind bunkin in altogether :p

Yeah, I know we can't really avoid the border jam. We'll just have to bite the bullet. Any arrangement is fine with me, but you are going with convoy 2 at 3+am, right?

Ok, so confirm that this time around the grouping categorisation is not by type of car but rather by the level of driver. I'm ok with either arrangement. How many cars will there be in each group? Don't think we got so many cars that we can take up all the slots in one group.

Yep, that's what I figured too. Not fair to allow people to jump groups. So instructor feels you are ok, you can drive without instructor but remain in your group, right?

I guess depends on the individual. Can make own arrangements to share rooms and just let you know.

Sorry bro, a couple of new questions:
1) How come the classroom session is arranged after the Group 1's first session? Makes more sense to have classroom session before driving.
2) Can have observer in the car?

Yes, unless the group is too few.... I hope to have at least 4 cars for Convoy2 at 3am+. It seems Convoy1 is more popular.

2) Ok, so confirm that this time around the grouping categorisation is not by type of car but rather by the level of driver. I'm ok with either arrangement. How many cars will there be in each group? Don't think we got so many cars that we can take up all the slots in one group.

Not too sure how many cars there will be in each group at the moment.. it will depends on how many people register for the event..

3) Yep, that's what I figured too. Not fair to allow people to jump groups. So instructor feels you are ok, you can drive without instructor but remain in your group, right?

Yes.... I believe that will be the arrangement.

4) Sorry bro, a couple of new questions:
1) How come the classroom session is arranged after the Group 1's first session? Makes more sense to have classroom session before driving.
2) Can have observer in the car?

No prob... keep the questions flowing.... I believe your questions are what most bros would like to ask as well, and you are actually asking on their behalf
1) That's a good question. Though I am not exactly sure the reason for that arrangement... I can see its pros and cons. Like you say, the cons is that... it does make more sense to learn the techniques and guidelines before, so we can actually put it into practice what we learn.
I see the pros as well. Since we have 3 slots, the first slot can be use to gain some track experience and feel(and to gain some pointers 1st if we have instructors), gather our questions....and with that, we can understand the lessons better and ask our questions during the class. And the rest of the 2 slots can be used to improve our skills.
But I will check with the event organiser the reason.

2) Yes, we can have an observer in the car but that person must sign the indemnity form and must wear a helmet to enter track with you.
