Why can't UK get same offer as US

Does anyone have a good reason why Mazda UK hasn't made the same free servicing and/or cash offer as Mazda US?

The US cars were delivered with 10bhp missing and mine will also be delivered with bhp missing (9ps). Are we the poor relations?

ermmmm

because we have entered into an actual order and paid our monies over to Mazda yet?

If you want to walk away with your £1000 back, you can...
in the states they had already taken delivery before their issue came out, so they had the same option as us or to keep the car with a discount vs the actual ordered spec. Ours is pre ordered spec.

I made that enquiry in Australia, we were told 177kw from day one - no confusion in marketing. That wasn't the case in the US.

The offer was made as part of an apology for being mislead as I understand it.

What were you told by the dealers in the UK when you ordered your cars?

Sigh. Not another one -

We have been here dozens of times.
The car you have is not missing 9ps.
The UK cars , at launch , will have a claimed 231ps.

the 240PS cars were never launched in the UK. Period. It doesn't matter what might have been , they never made it, you never bought it , you still have £21Kish in your pocket.

Mazda have promised you a 231PS car. If you dont want it , cancel the order. The end.

Sorry EP3!

Dont be scared off or stop posting!

Its just the whole missing power thing has been done to death, and were trying to cheer the place up, rather than depress the masses - although it may not look like it!

...sorry guys, it's justy that my order says 240ps not 231ps, it's all legally binding too, no disclaimers either, I got a solicitor to check...

...but, hey, if you all feel like jumping down my throat - go ahead - don't let a little fact step in the way...

EP - Check the small print.

However if your lawyer suggest we have a claim I'll join your gang for some freebies.

When did you order? the web page says 231

the states figues were 238 actual from 247 published i thought

If you aren't satisfied then I guess you are entitiled to a full refund. Always the customer's rights to reject anything.

Not sure you would notice 9hp on the road anyway, and at the price I rekon it's still very good.

If you were promised 240 tho, I guess you should be entitled to something. somes bits of shiny metal to slow it down more??

My EP preorder (note preorder) brochure with the username and password for the webiste says 240 too, so does the legal document. It means nothing as they have told us before we pay the dosh over - ie no legal transaction has taken place. Only a deposit. therefore as they have told us now, its our choice, walk away and get our 1k back or stick with it.

Theres no way a legal person would take that up as a case, and if they do, they are onto a hiding to nothing. The 240PS car doesn't exist. Therefore, deposit cash back from Mazda...if you paid it all up front, then thats a different thing.

In Spain the brochure sais 240CV but the website 231 CV.

One question:
In UK you don't have free servicing/maintenance? Here in Spain we have 5 years warranty, 3 years 24h assistance and 3 years or 60.000km maintenance. (Maybe it's not the same thing or I don't understand what you want to say with free servicing)

OK , ep3 - fair enough.

You enjoy your 240PS car your lawyer negotiates for you.

Should for some reason it not work out , I hope your £1000 refund covers the fees of your failed legal case....

Just to throw a spanner in the works didn't I see in one of the mags (maybe autocar) state a 228bhp? or is that the same as 231ps?

I'll duck for cover now:D

Its the same. 1 ps = 0.97something of a HP or so. So 231ps = 228bhp.

Odd thing is Australia get the 240ps version, as they have Euro stage 3 emmisions equivenlant at the moment, with no plans to change soon.

So every car sold in UK/Europe, before stage4 (2004/5) could run this engine map.

Unfortunatly the way Mazda deals with the ECU its unlikely we'll be able to do that (or even get the JDM 250ps version).

A man (M) walks into a hardware store. A shopkeeper (S) is standing behind the counter...

S: Hello sir.
M: Hello...err...Steve isn't it?
S: Yes sir, kind of you to remember, have you come to collect your order?
M: Yes, my order. It's been so long since I placed it...what was it again?
S: 2 litres of red paint, sir.
M: Oh yes, 2 litres or red paint thank you.
S: Here you go sir, 1.9 litres of red paint.
M: 1.9 litres...?
S: Yes sir, 1.9 litres of red paint.
M: Err...not 2 litres then.
S: No sir.
M: Well, 1.9 litres should be enough. How much is that?
S: That's £10 please sir.
M: My memory is a little foggy, but, isn't that the price for 2 litres.
S: Yes sir, quite right sir, excellent memory sir.
M: Oh well, I assume it's a better quality of paint?
S: No sir, it's exactly the same paint.
M: Oh, perhaps a better carrying handle on the tin. They do tend to cut in don’t they?
S: No sir, it's exactly the same handle.
M: Err...I know, I bet it's got clearer instructions on the back.
S: No sir, the instructions are the same as before.
M: Oh...well...erm...perhaps it's...no...erm...
S: Perhaps I can clarify the situation for sir?
M: Yes, jolly good, fire away.
S: It's exactly the same paint, sir. In fact it's exactly the same 2 litre tin - just that it only has 1.9 litres of paint in it. It is in every possible way the same as the 2 litre tin of red paint you ordered…except that it contains less paint.
M: Ahh, I see…increases in inflation…cost of living and what have you.
S: No sir, inflation is the same as it was.
M: Oh, well…I’m a little confused about the price staying the same.
S: Yes sir?
M: Yes…erm, is there…perhaps…ahh…an explanation…maybe?
S: Yes sir, it quite simple really…we can sell more tins of paint.
M: Oh, quite so…really rather obvious isn’t it.
S: Now you’ve got it sir.
M: So, silly question really but…is there any benefit for me?
S: Ah…no sir.
M: Oh…
S: But, as a gesture of good will sir, how about a free paint-brush?
M: A free paint-brush? Why, how generous. I’ll definitely make sure to come here again.
S: That’s the spirit, sir. Goodbye.
M: Goodbye.

So, how about a free paint brush Mr Mazda.

US Version

S: Hello sir.
M: Hello...err...Steve isn't it?
S: Yes sir, kind of you to remember, have you come to collect your preorder?
M: Yes, my preorder. It's been so long since I placed it...what was it again? I know I put down $1 to be the first in the queue for it.
S: 2 litres of new supa red paint, sir.
M: Oh yes, 2 litres of new supa red paint thank you. I've been looing forward to this new type of red paint, I'll be the talk of the town.
S: Here you go sir, 2 litres of new supa red paint. You're lucky, the rest of the town have been queueing up for it. I saved you a tin thanks to your deposit.
M: How much is that?
S: That's $15 please sir, less the $1 deposit.
M: Excellent, thats whats written on the tin, so I'll buy it.
....
later
....
M: Good day again, Mr Shopkeeper.
S: Hello Steve, rather fine day isn't it.
M: Yes, its the Summer and I've been getting ready to use my new supa red paint on my house.
S: What can I do for you - have you forgotten something then, sugar soap perhaps?
M: No, no, I have all of the accessories I need, thanks. OOh, apart from a paint brush that is.
S: So what can I do for you?
M: I have opened the tin, and found that there was only 1.9 litres of new supa red paint in it.
S: Oh dear.
M: My memory is a little foggy, but, didn't I pay you the full $15 -isn't that the price for 2 litres.
S: Yes sir, quite right sir, excellent memory sir.
M: Oh well, I assume it's a better quality of paint?
S: No sir, it's exactly the same paint.
M: Oh, perhaps a better carrying handle on the tin. They do tend to cut in don’t they?

S: Yes sir?
M: Yes…erm, is there…perhaps…ahh…an explanation…maybe?
S: Yes sir, it quite simple really…emissions laws worked against us at the last minute and so we had to cut the amount of paint in the tins. If we didn't then the awful smell and chemicals in the air would have breached limits. Those pesky beaurocrats.
M: Oh, quite so…really rather obvious isn’t it.
S: Now you’ve got it sir.
M: So, silly question really but…is there any benefit for me?

M: ...oh, I'll still take it. It IS good paint.
S: That’s the spirit, sir. Thanks for the money, which means we now have a solid transaction. If however the paint now isn't up to standard, of course we will have to come to some sort of arrangement.
M: Ok, thats the legal rules.
S: Goodbye.
M: Goodbye.

I have driven the Hi and Low power RX8 and I was going to sell the Golf in replace of it but now I'm not too sure. I will probably take delivery of the 8 and put it on a months temporary cover note and then run them side by side and see then which I prefer.

I know I will miss the kick in the pants of the R32 but have an S3/RS3 on order as soon as info is released. The main thing I'll miss is the sound as nothing for the price comes anywhere near for tunnel pleasure.:D

I wouldn't compare the Audi to the RX8 as it's a remapped tractor with twice the amount of torque of the RX8 but with a very narrow power band. Its a lovely motor but not a Sunday car if you know what I mean. So this remains my to and from work car.

The question regarding how they compare really is very difficult because the RX8 and the R32 both have so much going for them and both have a lot of standard features. They just deliver in different ways.

Only time will tell.

Does this mean I'm a senior with this post being 100? I also want a card from the queen.:D
