What are the official MPG figs ?
What are the gigs you are all talking about ? The ones I saw in the book were bang on (somewhere between 18-28 as I recall)?
Also - what is the CO2 rating ? Just wondered if there were some new stats that MazdaUK have released that I have not seen..... There is alot of negative talk at the moment about things I thought we already knew from the outset... (fuel figs etc). Any official figs please post - ta - Morgan. |
This is what the Swiss Mazda.ch website tells us about hipo / stdpwr RX-8:
Fahrleistungen Beschleunigung 0?100 km/h, s (Acceleration) 6,5 / 7,8 Höchstgeschwindigkeit, km/h (Max speed) 240 / 230 Normverbrauch (1999/100/EG), Gesamt, L/100 km (norm consumption) 11,4 / 10,9 CO2 is not stated like this, simply Euro4.... Have my Excel sheet with MPG conversions at home, not sure at the moment. |
Conversion
I make that 24.8 and 25.9 MPG (UK).
What does the German 'Normal Consumption' test comprise of? |
Here they are definative.
Urban 17.9 (15.8) Extra 31.7 (8.9) Comb 24.8 (11.4) CO2 g/km 284 This is based on High Power 231ps Cheers Oilman |

The Norm consumption is the mentioned "Normverbrauch according to 1999/100/EG" is a European community standard test -- don't know details, should be available via Google maybe? Oilman -- your figures seem to be mixed up somewhat?!? |
Have to say - strikes me as well into the good...
What were you all expecting for a 200+bhp car ? Actually , it is better than I was expecting ! (and about twice as good as previous rotaries ! :) ) |
It will be an improvement for me, the MX-6 does about 22.5 MPG.
Cheers, Maverik. (I loved that MX-3 the only reason I don't still have it is because some idiot behind me forgot to stop when every one else did. Hit us at around 30mph in a motorway contraflow. It was a complete write off.) |
I think the fuel figures are acceptable for a 200bhp+ car, it is not really a big issue for me.
RX-8 Urban 17.9 Extra 31.7 Comb 24.8 My Impreza STi is Urban 18.2 Extra 33.2 Comb 25.4 and I have averaged 18 over the last year, I must have a heavy right foot :D On that basis I would expect to only get the same or less from the RX-8 especially as you have to rev it to get the performance. I think these figures are less than cars like the TT, 330CI, etc though |

It's not a big problem for me as I don't do a high mileage and it's what I was expecting given that it's a rotary. But lets be honest, it's not one of the car's strong points. To put it in perspective the official figures are about the same as a BMW M3, and a lot worse than a 330Ci or TT220. |
I'm happy with these figures but only do about 6k p.a.
Cheers Oilman:cool: |
ChrisW - Yep. Fair 'nuf.
My mileage is all motorway (although lots of it). My integraR is rated at combined of ~28 and I get ~33. I am hoping to get at least 25 from the RX8 , and think I should be fine. What is more interesting (maybe EastMoon can help) is what sort of petrol do I need ? Traditionally rotaries use low octane fuel (2star it used to be). If the RX8 runs on normal95 octane unleaded it will be even closer to my current scenario. IntegraR has to use 98 octane , so expensive. Lower octane fuel would mean 6% less cost immediately. Anyone know the answer ? Morgan. PS - Dont think 20 is unreasonable for just kicking around. Early imprezas struggled to get this much ! (seems to be better in later models from MarkWs posts) |
