Video of Fujita RX-8

I'm putting this here as I don't think I could take the bandwidth hit of all the US readers downloading this.

I've uploaded the video of the Fujita Engineering RX-8 battle with an Accord, IS200 and 350Z...

http://www.sixspeed.net/RX-8/rx8-2.mpg

Be warned though - this is approximately 135Mb! Definately b/band only.

I'll trim down the file to get rid of some of the crap at the beginning so it is just the race, but I didn't have time (*read - couldn't be ar*ed*) tonight..

Have fun!

-andy-

*Edited to say that I'm uploading this as we speak, so the full file may not be available for half an hour or so...

Nice video. Thanks sixspeed. And already in VCD-compliant format, to boot. I burned it to a mini CD to enjoy in my DVD player.

Smoker, you may need to download it again, because the final lap was included on the one I downloaded (hint: the RX-8 wins against the Z by a hair after doing a little bit of blocking).

It probably hadn't finished uploading when you downloaded the file.

Glad you guys liked it. I thought the result was good :D Infact I nearly pissed myself laughing at the guy weaving down the straight trying to hold off the 350Z!! :D :D

Aside from the fact that the RX-8 had trouble holding it's own on the straight, do you notice how much it pulled away from the 350Z as it hit the first series of corners. Leaves it for dust!!

I was about to say exactly the same thing. It looks so good in the corners.

I saw uprated suspension, can anyone else work out what other mods were done to the car?

The poor IS200 driver must have drawn the short straw that day, must have been embarassing having everybody wave as they passed him.:D

I'm guessing suspension (coilover?), intake, exhaust, brakes (?)... oh, and that wing ...

Yeah, the RX-8 definitely laid down early power while exiting those corners, which you can experience even in the stock car. That has always been the RX7/8's strong point. Nice thing here is with the mods they've done it gets a good ways away before other cars catch up. I couldn't figure out what other mods they'd done but it is 250ps and IRC 1350 kg. FWIW the Z33 was 300ps and 1440 kg. They showed the weight/power ratio for all the cars in the somewhere. The Z had like .4 kilo advantage over the 8, and the other cars were over 1 kilo more per unit of power. I do have to wonder, though, what the result would be if they ran separate time trials, or if at the very least they ran without all that talking, goofing around, and finger-pointing.

I spoke to a Honda dealer a couple of weeks ago and he mentioned that they were planning a TypeR version of the Accord with 400bhp.

Now that will be fast.

They did post a "time attack" result at the end. I think this is their best solo timed run. The Z33 was about a half sec faster than the FEED RX-8. The RX-8 is then a full sec. faster than the Phase Accord Euro R.

Errr why can't I seem to download this. As an IT dullard I am trying to catch up (i can just ring someone up from IT dept at work!!) as best i can. I even had braodband installed last week as I was tuning into an RX-8 Forum addict!

When I click on the link screen goes to blank internet explorer page but when download is complete & states "done" I still have a blank screen????????

Has anyone got some advice for an IT trogladite?

Agh yes that seems to do the trick!!

Am only downloading 14kb/s though & I seem to remember someone saying that it took 8mins at >200!!!

Does this mean that my broad band has been at the slim fast?? OR HAVE NTL RIPPED ME OFF?!

On the first section before the race, while the guy are trying out the 8 alone on the track, he kept saying its very smooth. Not sure if he's refering to the HKS suspension or the FEED exhaust that was on the 8.

Anyway the FEED 8 manage to gain about 2 sec from the stock 8. That's not too bad.

M-ster,

Any ideas on what the main differences were, apart from Exhaust and Suspension? What was the power output with all the intake/exhaust mods?

Hi Andy,
Those guys spoke in Japanese but with Cantonese sub-titles. I don't understand Japanese and barely make-up what the Cantonese wordings are when comes to names of the items, eg. like I'd know what's a clutch, but in Cantonese I would not know what's its called.
Anyway, I'll try to explain what ever I could and hopefully I don't fill you guys with the wrong info.

There was something they've changed in the engine bay. They mentioned UCO was 9.7, what's UCO?? And after they have twick the UCO?? the power went close to 300bhp.
They mention about Turbo too. The guy in red, I believe he's from Fujita, mentioned that the engine is suitable for turbo. But one have to modify the exhaust/out going gas first. As it's too hot in the engine bay.

At the end, the guy in green who drove the RX8 said it's worth buying the 8, BUT, if its him, who have a choice, he would rather settle for the SKYLINE.

Now comes to the most important point. Where the few guys who stand together at the end, they hint the aftermarket guys to work on that 'THING'. Come on anyone form HongKong, what's that 'THING' they were talkin about!?!?!?

Just managed to download and watch the video. Very interesting indeed and so thanks for posting. The video poses more questions than it answers - such as what the extact mods to the cars were? Exactly what the drivers themselves thought of the cars. It was interesting to note that while the Z did appear to be the faster car there wasn't a lot in it and anyway the RX8 won. Would have liked to have seen a video of stock road cars racing - anyone?

There was a video of stock cars racing in a previous Best Motoring video which has already been posted in the Multimedia section on this forum (link to vid here http://www.rasterwerks.com/vid/BestM...Part08.avi.zip)

It's in DiVX format. I have the DVD though, so I don't mind doing another rip to post in MPG format on my webspace.

The RX-8 was up against different cars (no 350Z IIRC), but you won't be too pleased with the outcome I expect.
