UK Insurance
Sorry but this is a very UK based question. Does anyone know what insurance group thre RX-8 (HI-Power) is going to be in the UK. I have heard anywhere from 16 (nice idea but not very likely) to 20 (not very nice idea but much more likely/expensive)? Has anyone actually received an insurance quote yet? I havent been able to get one.
Finally, does anyone have a realistic idea as to what the residual values are going to be like after 3 years.
Sorry to all of you in the US but these two questions are all that is stopping me from pre-ordering my car. I really want one but I am not going to pay stupid ammounts of money for the privelage.

Welcome to the forums.
You want to pop over to the Europe part in the regional section to see the UK posters on a regular basis see here
The latest info we have is that Mazda are lobbying the insurance co's to make it group 16 but is likely to be 17. They are still waiting for the thatchem rating for the alarm and immobiliser to give a final verdict.
As for residuals - one punt has been made (cant remember by whom) and they didn;t look very good but it's way too early to say. Initial high deand should make the residuals good for a while.

i heard the same that it was likely to be a whisker from 20 for the hi power(never bothered with the low spec not getting one so didnt see the point)
The residual value as i understand is also how contract leasing works out there charging rates and to some degree the premiums on insurance.
My insurance company hadnt a clue what i was talking about when i last spoke to them but information/data does take its time to get to the Welsh Valleys where the insurers call centre is.
have a guess who it might be, a nautical theme might give it away

RX-8 grouping
Just out of interest I double checked my MX-6's grouping (16) and noticed below it the RX-8!
I thought wow perhaps they have come to a decision already and it's been posted on parkers. So I clicked on the model and 1.3 engine size, to reveal a screen with two entries, one for the 192ps and another for the 240ps(???).
Which group were they in, well both have no grouping, both show '0' .
Might be an idea to check here Friday though, as I doubt Mazda will update the website on time.

CW, under the list of groups there is a section that reads "Alternatively click here to view insurance groups by make, model and engine size".
Follow that link and select 'Mazda', under the Model selection box you will find an RX-8 entry.
