Self doubt...

Ever since I ordered this car I have been set on titanium. Always loved the titanium MX5s and as soon as I heard the RX was available in titanium - no question.
In fact it was a deciding factor in my decision to commit...

However , my desktop wallpaper at the moment is a stunning black example.... At first I thought the black hid the RX lines too much , but I gotta say..... she is looking very very sweet in black..... mmmmm........
Thank god it does not have the aluminium vent-trims as well , with the aly rotor front trim. That would make it even harder...

I think changing my desktop may be an easier option than changing my order though !

Morgan, I know how you feel! Black seems to be really taking my fancy at the moment.

I was set on blue from the word go, but I guess I've been looking at the same pictures as you have because the black cars just look gorgeous!

I keep telling myself it's a nightmare to keep clean, but it's not working!! Oh, and don't forget they are now offering red/black leather on the black cars as well now!

I feel the same about the red, especially when I see the blood red pictures taken out of direct sunlight. But I do have to keep reminding myself why I am not getting red (location).

If only they had as many tit grey pictures floating around.

I keep liking the Red or Black but my reason against the red is that the cops will pick you out time after time and the black will take a lot of cleaning (and I'm too lazy!)

Colour

Initially I thought about the blue, but opted for the grey. There is a special edition (schnider?) new mini at work (quite a curvy car like the RX8) in a similar grey and that decided it for me, along with the fact blue wasn't a release colour.

But now after seeing the blue car at the show and realising the effect of the green, I'm not so sure. Couple this with the fact that the difference in delivery times will now probably only be a couple of weeks, and I will admit to second thoughts.

However, I will stick with the Titanium because I know it will look good, after all just over a third of this forum cant be wrong.

What is that old saying?

"Once you have tried Black, you'll never go back"

That's what my wife said to me any way, after our trip to the West Indies.

I chose black because i felt that there are lots of Red cars around at the moment (I have one myself), the Sunlight Silver is again popular, you just have to look at all the TT's around and Titanium Grey is an old mans colour IMHO (my father-in-law has just bought a Mazda6 in tit-gey)

The Blue, Green and Yellow didn't appeal because of the delay in delivery.

Chris

PS Sorry if I have offended any Titanium orders

Theoretically as the cars havent been built you should be able to change your order without any penalty. - we are still at least 2 weeks from July at the earliest.

Changing specs/colour shouldnt be an issue but then we are talking about Mazda here. (Any excuse as i see it)

I thought about changing my order when the option of the Red / Black interior was announced and was told that I would be put to the back of the queue and I would be lucky to get my car this year.

Madness, as cw007 says thet cars haven't been started as yet.

Perhaps all of the cars are already in the country and Mazda are waiting to surprise us at the dealer previews in July........heres hoping

Even though they haven't started building our cars yet I'm pretty sure the resource allocation of things like seats etc will have already started for our cars. I can understand how a change to our order would affect the logistics in Japan already. The cars are also probably built in batches of a certain colour so again that development schedule will probably have already been drawn up.

Chris - you turned 30 this week didn't you - have you started to feel drawn to the titanium grey?

I haven't started yearning for Terry Wogan and that sort of stuff yet, although I did find myself turning Radio 1 off because it was too noisey.............

Is this actually true or just an urban myth? Is there anybody here who has experienced this ?(I've never owned a red car). I would have thought that nowadays the majority of traffic policing is done by speed cameras, which of course don't discriminate.

I also don't understand why changing our orders now would put back delivery times significantly. Even if you go to the back of the queue the queue is apparantly still not even 1000 long and there are supposed to be 3000 arriving sometime this year. So it shouldn't be a big problem.

My boss swears it's true as all the points he's picked up by being pulled over have been when he's driving a red car. Never owned one myself either but I can imagine there's some element of truth in it although probably to a lesser degree now days with all of the camera enforcement.

On your point of there being 3000 coming in; It may be that there are 3000 coming in over the next 12 months and that the demand in the Japanese and American market means that this number may be fulfiled later rather than sooner.

Bosses are supposed to get pulled over. They drive company cars of substantial value and roast them. While we lesser plebs have company car options that relate to a robin reliant in money terms.

I did wonder the same. I have had 2 red cars before (admittedly about 10 years ago now) and never had any problems. I dont expect being stopped any more in a Red car than any other unless I am driving like a tw&t.

Didnt some of this come from the story that police played snooker with cars and had to get a 'red' before they potted a 'colour? If that is true my black car is worth 7 points but Ive never been stopped.

For the last 2/3 years ive driven around in fairly loud looking Subarus with huge wings and big gold wheels and never been stopped. I think a red RX8 will stand out less than these.

With regard to the black, I agree with Morgan and initially I really liked the black, in fact my Mrs wanted me to order black. The thing that tipped me to the red was the red/black leather.

If this had been available in black from launch I would have gone for it, but upon reflection after seeing all the pictures I am more than happy with the red.

Finally, dont forget going for black saves you £300 as its nott metallic

Morgan I originally ordered Black but changed it to T/Grey as I too felt the lines would not be shown off as I'd like. The Black would save you £300 and hide the rear door lines better, but changing now may mean a delivery delay.

On the question of car colours being used to play snooker by the Police ..... its true! My neighbour is a Policeman who tried to disuade me from getting a white car (cue ball) sometime ago, but I didn't listen and suffered the consequences.

Result - white Carlton 24V GSi sold.

Black is the best colour! (every peron thinks the colour they have ordered is!) - however, if you change now, back of the queue. Having said that if they do ship 1000 cars in sept, might not be a problem??

Ya know, it's perplexing how many people get suckered in by urban myths.

If you choose to believe that, go ahead and deny yourself your favorite color.

My comments weren't based on urban myths but on experiences of people I know who own or have owned red cars. It could all be just coincidence admittedly but then again it might not be. You don't have snooker in the States either!:p

To be honest, I find it difficult to believe that the police are so abusive that something like "snooker" happens on more than a very limited basis.

I've heard/read so many people talk about all of the speeding/racing they do, and then complain when they happen to get one or two tickets. They'll accuse the patrolman/woman of being unfair, or "targeting" them for some prejudice reason, like the fact that they are young, or drive a sports car, or drive a rice car, and sometimes because they drive a red car. They seem to have a hard time accepting the fact that it could simply be because with all of the speeding they do, the odds finally caught up with them.

So I take the claims by people that they got a ticket because of some unfair reason like because "their car is red", with a big grain of salt.

I don't like too many people to have the same colour as mine. Since you are not in Australia, I can recommend you Winning Blue. Second fav, yellow or red.:p
