RX-8 s in GREECE (pics included)
Yesterday, my dealer called, and said that Mazda Greece has in its premises 8 RX-8s for press purposes and that if I would like I could go over there and have a look (my mobile nearly fall off my hands but I tried to stay cool :D ). At last! I could see the CAR I have ordered (and waiting for delivery by the end of December) in real (not in Internet photos). Needless to say that at 8:00 AM today I was at the premises.
I will not comment on the Mazda-Greece image and behaviour towards customers. I will just say that I own a Mazda Xedos and had promised myself no to buy a Mazda again (due to the price of parts and the incompetence of proper representation - I consider myself fortunate not to have any reliability or guarantee problems). Nevertheless I easily broke my vow when I saw and learned about the RX-8. Anyway, arriving at the premises, I asked the guy to show me the cars, and he escorted me to the site where I was presented with 6 covered cars, and two uncovered. A sunlight silver and a tit grey. From the plate numbers I recognised the cars seen in some photos on this forum. They were previously in Italy and they will go next to Austria I think.
The moment I saw them, I got really excited. The cars were standing there side by side. My previous choice (sunlight silver) and my final (tit grey), after I changed my mind seeing photos in this forum. They looked much better in real (as other persons have already said).
I started going around them and looking at details taking pictures (as those I include) and I have to admit that I started to have third thoughts about the colour I ordered. The grey car was dirty, and since it was quite early in the morning and the sun was low it looked very dark. The silver one looked awesome though, and very sporty. As the sun went up, and another tit grey car was uncovered (a clean one) I just thought : wow! great colour. It looks quite nicer and lighter now ). I still can't believe how the grey can give so many impressions depending on the lighting conditions. On the opposite side, the silver, with the Greek sun higher in the sky, started to glow an annoying brightness. The point is that I was always puzzled by these colours and I still am.
The interiors of both cars where black/grey, the tit one having leather. My opinion is that the one-coloured interior is not very dramatic and spoils a little bit the impression.
I sat in the grey one, and I was trembling with excitement as I realised the cockpit I was in! The glowing instruments are awesome and the piano black console startling. The wheel was just the right size and thickness. In general the interior gave the impression of a luxury sports car. I tried the clutch and felt very light, and the gear lever had short throws. I turned on the engine and the only difference I could distinguish from a four cylinder one was a light metallic whining.
I am 1m87cm tall (6'2''?) and I fitted quite comfortably. Having the front seat at my driving position I tried to sit at the back. I slipped in easily without moving the front seat, and as I sat behind the driver side, my head could hardly touch the roof, but my feet where jammed (but then the same happens with my Xedos). Anyway, my 2-year-old baby sits behind me so I don't care.
I think the back seats are quite comfortable for normal sized persons, but the visibility is poor and a bit claustrophobic. But wait a minute! This car has no moonroof!! The one I ordered has one. How can I test if I fit in there?!
Fortunately, one of the covered cars (a black with a red/black interior) had a moonroof, so I tried to sit in there too. Yippee :D !!
The roof was about 2-3 cm above my hair. I fit very nice. My biggest concern turns out OK The red/black interior was much nicer, sporty, and classy as well. I much liked it, although I ordered a tan/black interior because I think its more classy and it will last longer in my taste (and my age!!). The black car looked astonishing as well but after being too bored of continuously cleaning my dark blue Xedos and much worried about cat scratches, keys etc. I decided not to buy a dark car again.
Well these were my aesthetic impressions of the car and I have to say that I can’t wait to get mine. Marvellous!!
P.S. By the way, are there any other Greek members in this forum?!

the grey is nice, certainly much better on the clean car, the silver I think is fantastic but I hate that fact that it's such a common car on the roads (in this country anyway)
sorry but the black is the best (but of course i'm biased)
having seen the grey in the flesh i thought it was far more interesting than the photo's suggest, the event i attended was open to the public and the amount of interest the grey car generated was astonishing, i'm sure it will be great to own.
(another post showing concern over his Mazda dealer, has anyone had a good experience?)

Nice post and pictures. Tit grey looking good, something very sophisticated about that colour.
Moonroof fit sounds good although I am not taking the chance.

What can I say ? Black was always my color on cars, and the red/black interior (no matter what you guys say) is BY FAR the best looking one
I really hate silver cars, so your Titanium Grey is just right
Ah, kai egw eimai Ellhnas, an kai zw/ergazomai sto Belgio (gia thn wra.......)

Nice photos - thanks. I must admit that the black and leather combo looks nice. But I am still glad to be sticking with the Titanium. BTW the titanium car I've driven in the UK looked slightly darker (from memory anyway) than the one in these photos. I know it isn't just that under typical british lighting conditions the car looks even better.

powerhead,
My dilemma is same: silver or grey ? and its killing me :-) Getting extremely difficult to choose btw the two. I have seen both in person at night. Haven't seem them in daylight. Both are amazing colors.
Funny how I bumped into this thread cuz I just came back after showing my wife both colors at two different dealerships here in Virginia, US of A. We were on our way back (10:30pm) when a SILVER RX8 just zoomed by my right and took the ramp to get on the highway. Immediately and without ANY delay/hesitation I started following it (if this was one of the forum member here please forgive me - i had to do this:-). The guy was driving fast and the car looked so stable on the ramp - I was trying to keep pace so taking the ramp real fast and the wife almost freaked out. Well on the highway I passed the Silver left and right and let me tell you - IT LOOKED AWESOME !
The grey one at the dealerhip had the appearance package and it looked beautiful as well. Looking at the pictures you've posted here the silver wins not because Grey one is dirty but cuz it looks really dark. On the other hand I must admit that Silver glows really bright in direct sunlight - at least in some of the pics I have seen so far. Again, I NEED to see both these colors in sunlight. Another plus point for Silver, in my opinion, is that since I want the read/black leather it would look great on silver - classic sport combo of ext and int colors. I am not a fan of red/grey with Titanium - chaparal/black looks much better on the Tit :-)
You are lucky to have seen both colors SIDE BY SIDE in person. What I'd suggest is go to this dealership TWO more times and take a look at both of them together - once in late afternoon - once at night :-) Both are great colors and you cant go wrong with either one of them. Just take a look at them in different lighting condition. And please please post all the rest of the pics.

powerhead,
i had the same enquiry but since i WANT the red/black interior i am gonna stick with the silver (all time classic). The titanium grey makes some funny purple-ish shades in it, a bit gay for
my taste, LOL.
In addition i would like the other forum members' opinion about the rx-8 edition that is coming to europe next year. 192 hp, +1 kilo torque, less consumption, - 3000 euro.

This is more like a "family car" than the HIGH-Pow model. I'm guessing that the STD-Pow is for those who are mostly used to piston engines, and think all the power should come rather low, around 3-4K rpms.......

Maybe next month we will be able to see some road-tests by the greek car magazines.

Also, notice that the price of the RX8 has dropped *just* 400E, since the rotary is a small displacement engine.....
So, from 39990 its now 39600.......big ******* deal
On the other hand, lots of 2.5 and 3.0lt cars are not almost 10K cheaper (some even more cheap). At last, something is happening in Greece.........although lots of dealers are saying that this will not last for long, since the factories will "correct" their prices, in order to compensate
