oh and i spoke with a dealer here in K-town and they said that to get warranty work done one would have to pay upfront then get reimbursment from mazda later...I dont know if that is how all dealerships work over here or just that one..or if they have any actual experience handling US warranty claims or if they were just assuming.....lol so basicly i guess i dont know anything.......except that a set of spark plugs from a dealer here costs 150 Euro lol

whoa dude, are you crazy?? Charles R. Hill, Easy_E1, Flashwing, any of those BHR guys can get you plugs at a very good price and ship em to ya. Pretty sure almost any vendor here can get you plugs cheaper than that

bad Rocks, bad :spank:

btw, you gotta come up here sometime. soon as i remember to put some minutes on my phone i'll call ya bout it.

PNTitBLK_07 01-09-2010 02:06 AM

Oh well I didnt buy the plugs for that much lol....I ordered them from spark plugs.com i think about $93 shipped (took for eeevvvvveeeeeer to ship though). price wasnt great but it wasnt terible. I noticed on rotary FX they sell a set of NGK labled plugs for 80 something and right next to it they sell the same NGK plugs with the mazda label for $150....that blue dye must be expensive.

i saw the technician grab a set of mazda plugs to check the #s to make sure i had the right ones so i asked about the price. It gave me a good chuckle.

the 35K service with dealer supplied the oil filter, air filter and rear Diff Oil cost me 151 Euro ( with VAT form)or 217-ish dollars. add what i paid for my plugs ($93) and oil ($ 35) and my total comes to about $345.

I can easily see how ppl manage to spend $500+ on this service, if you use dealer supplied parts and oil....what a rip off

anyway paul, dont call me with your minutes, get me your DSN and let me know ehen you will be working or i can can give you mine and you can call me.....minutes are expensive here

Beast...where are you located?

I'm at the lovely Spangdahlem......... I have coils and wires on the way. I just replaced the plugs a few days ago, and it does run smoother now, but I'm pretty sure the coils are shot.

Are you getting the BHR coils?

LYAutobot 01-11-2010 01:06 PM

Spang? Me Too!

I am at Spangdahlem too. I have the Lightning Yellow RX8 with Cochem Plates. I too just had issues with my Coils. The car would take a while to start but worse than that It ran horrible. It wouldn't get going from a stop very well at all. Replaced the coils and it runs much much better Night and Day. I have a set of new plugs to put in it and I am pretty much learning on the fly since this is my first Rotor Engine. Beast, since you just changed yours maybe you can give me a few pointers. I have a garage and tools at my house and I just changed my coils if you need some help maybe we can work together and do your coils and my plugs. Let me know if your intrested. PM if intrested. :beerchug:

Renesisgrl 01-12-2010 04:39 AM

Coils are easy if you have small hands :) The plugs are a pain though. I had a hard time with them. Let me know if I can help.

Called the dealership that has mine yesterday....they are saying another couple weeks. This is horrible. They told me that they took out the engine, now are waiting for Mazda Germany to call them back to see if they can use german parts or order from the states. This is a nightmare! Good news is that it is just the Apex seals. They said the housing and rotor are still great.

plugs are easier than the coils. pull the wheel, use 2-3ft(~1m) of extension on your rachet. easy as pie!

on your motor, i have to god for your sake that those guys know better than the american dealer techs. they arent even allowed to open a motor up like that. there shouldnt be any difference in where they get the parts, all the same.

The plugs are pretty annoying, but doable. The plugs in my Camaro were much, much worse! Still waiting on those coils...........

paulmasoner 01-14-2010 07:59 AM

I'm curious about you guys with the plugs... i dont know if ya'll are doing something the hardway, or if i have just been lucky so far. of modern motors i touched, this one is about the easiest plug change i've done...

Hey guys, just thought I'd drop in since I just got an assignment in August to Ramstein!!! I was wondering if you guys could provide some insight. I really wanna keep my 8, but I'm a bit concerned about the weather. She handles like caca in the snow here in Maryland, I can't help but think that Germany would be a bit more difficult? Any advice would be welcome. :) Thanks ya'll!

I'm a few hours away from Ramstein and although we get none of the weather they have up here, i have been down there a few times in recent weeks and seen the conditions. It has been pretty bad, but truth be told this has been considered a really rough winter too. I'd say you'll be fine, just make sure you have proper tires. I have Pirelli P-zero Nero's on right now and got around down there just fine in the slush, snow, and ice

StuttgartRX8 02-06-2010 03:23 AM

This winter has been the worst one I've seen here since my first winter in 2005 here. But I'm from WV and the winters there are twice as bad as the one this year. You should be fine with your 8 with a good set of winter tires or even all seasons depending on if this winter happens again.

HAHA, true and not... We haven't had a call here in like 5 years i think, and FD related stuff - we do practically nothing. But I've landed the glorious squadron duty of UDM/Mobility folders/Ancillary training. So for the last 3 weeks I've been sitting here at this computer all day at work, and some off duty tearing these folders apart. They came out with a new table of contents(i think just so we had to move everything to different tabs) and some new requirements. It is pretty much the busiest i've ever been in the AF :cussing:

Hey all! I've just returned from deployment and I had my 8 shipped to me while I was there. I missed a lot of the snow but I'm happy there was still a few fun snowy days after I got back. Now I have no reason for this lovely tan hehe.

I'm stationed in Ramstein and I've seen a few 8's on base, and some even looked partially modded. Here are a few pics of my 8 since she's been over here.

Do you guys meet up on a regular basis? Back in SF we used to meet up every Friday, it was a blast. I'm also on militarytuners.org but there is too much competition there it seems.

Welcome back from your deployment. Glad you made a safe return. I'm not there yet, but I'll be in Ramstein by the end of August. Just got my assignment rip last week. Not sure how long it takes for them to ship your car, but I'm pretty sure Ima keep my 8. I can't bare to part with her.

I am selling my 8 and live around the Spangdahelm area. PM me if you know anyone that might be intrested.

SilkyJohnson 06-06-2010 08:56 AM

Hey guys, brand new to the rotary business. Just bought a 2004 RX8 2 days ago. Already having problems with the start up and I get a light/code thrown when I get on it and push it over7k Rpm but I have been told it was a bad sensor. The engine definitely ran hot yesterday. THough it was as hot as satans dick outside. Anyways, where is a good place to get some coils sent to an APO fast?

bse50 06-06-2010 10:14 AM

stock coils can be purchased through mazmart.com easily and they ship fast! StuttgartRX8 might also have some coils in good working conditions at home

SilkyJohnson 06-06-2010 10:33 AM

Right on, just ordered! Should have some spark plugs on the way. Hope all this helps with my start up problem.

bse50 06-06-2010 10:35 AM

I would get a compression test done before installing the new coils!

paulmasoner 06-06-2010 11:55 AM

also, if your in the Kaiserslaughtern area, look up this guy: PNTitBLK_07

if he doesnt have a compression tester from twisted rotors, i'm gonna drive down there and beat him! :)

Like bse50 said, I do have a set of stock coils as my spare set that you could borrow if you are in the Stuttgart area.

CleAn_WhEeLs_RX8 06-10-2010 01:14 AM

So...i definitely did not know there was this many people on here from germany...haha, i was looking up spark plug things cause i am having issues with my 8. Sometimes it wont start, and has pretty much 0tq when it does run. I figured it was not getting a good spark. I went to a dealer in Landstuhl and they said plugs would run me 270euro or something. When i tried ordering from the states a few months ago, they said they couldnt get any...idk but im from ramstein...i drive the black 8 with the clack XXR 6 with the chrome lips...

CleAn_WhEeLs_RX8 06-10-2010 01:15 AM

BLACK XXR lol...not clack

SilkyJohnson 06-10-2010 05:41 PM

Yeah man, I went to the five finger death punch concert tonight at spangdahlem tonight and saw two different RX8's. I drove behind one and parked next to another. They sure did look good together! They turned a ton of heads!

CleAn_WhEeLs_RX8 06-14-2010 05:45 AM

did you just replace your plugs and coil(s)? I was looking on a website we use here at work, and it showed there are 4 coils??? i thought just one originally and just bought 1 and it was 88$...can some ppl give me help. I just replaced my spark plugs and it ran for a few but now it wont start at all. All i am really gettting now is that its flooded?? ill try and deflood it one day this week...HELP!!!

jezek301 06-14-2010 01:15 PM

I have had issues with starting and performance as well. I did a lot of reading on this site, and I just ordered BHR coils, wires, and plugs. Everyone has said that it makes a huge difference.

bse50 06-14-2010 01:21 PM

Did you perform the preliminary tests before ordering them? Like a compression check, catalyzer inspection etc?
While they are a very good upgrade they may not be the solution for starting issues and poor performance at times.

CleAn_WhEeLs_RX8 06-15-2010 02:30 AM

I am pretty sure that my 8 is flooded. I tried deflooding yesterday but the battery died fairly quick. I def smelled it burning fuel doing the procedure. I changed my starter and spark plugs so far and it didnt change anything. So thats how i can to the conclusion its flooded...but it wont start. I ordered a coil because at the time i didnt know there was 4... and its sucks cause one is 90$

bse50 06-15-2010 04:06 AM

where are you ordering the coils for 90$ each? Mazmart and other vendors sell them for about 140$\4!

StuttgartRX8 06-15-2010 06:01 AM

Where you at in Germany? I have a set of coils.

jezek301 06-15-2010 10:55 AM

I did the compression test, and the other preliminary tests. So, I thought this would be a good try. It definitely can't hurt.

CleAn_WhEeLs_RX8 06-16-2010 09:16 AM

i thought there was one coil lol so i got one coming. But then i seen there was 4. I ordered it from Autozone in the states. and i want to get wires too...Oh, and i am at Ramstein

TarBaby_Slapper 06-22-2010 09:53 AM

Aww..... SMH well i hope everything turns out okay since im that guy your wife emailed me about your car.....and then i emailed you =__=

So, is anyone planning a meet here in Germany? If not I think we should get one planned... I know we all work crazy schedules but Im sure we can work something out.

CleAn_WhEeLs_RX8 06-23-2010 08:57 AM

@ PaulMasoner

That would be great! let me know when you are down here. I dont know a whole lot bout the rotary but im very interested. And that would be great if you could help out. If u need, my number is 01717869841. My name is Donnie. Thanks!

Throwdown 06-24-2010 10:26 PM

Do you work at the motor pool on Ramstein? I always see a black 8 with black wheels and a chrome lip. I drive the WB 8 with the black MS wing and black wheels with WB lip.

CleAn_WhEeLs_RX8 06-27-2010 08:42 AM

yeeah, thats me. I work in vehicle maintenance on ramstein. I actually almost got it running again today but my battery died again lol. What town do you live in Throwdown??? i live in weilerbach. Maybe u can help me or what not if u know some things.

95nracer 06-27-2010 01:22 PM

Have you tried cutting power to the fuel pump?

CleAn_WhEeLs_RX8 06-28-2010 12:20 AM

i dont think so. I have just done what the book said to do, and depress the pedal to the floor, which cuts the fuel. But i dont think i have cut the power...

StuttgartRX8 06-28-2010 02:14 AM

He means take out the fuse to the fuel pump I think. I take out the fuse and disconnect the air pump. If the car starts up I run up to the front of the car and put the fuse back in before it dies. by disconnecting the air pump you don't damage the cat I heard, and also it uses less battery power since that thing doesn't have to kick on.

CleAn_WhEeLs_RX8 06-28-2010 11:43 AM

nice! i think i will give it a shot once my battery gets recharged lol. How long u got to put that fuse back in lol???

StuttgartRX8 06-28-2010 01:05 PM

I've usually had in about 30 seconds after starting. It'll work better if you have a car hooked up to the car while your trying to start it.
