red/black or plain black leather?
just read a small article in Autocar today regarding choosing accessories for the RX.
They recommend the SatNav for keeping residuals high and is good value at £1500
they also say don't choose two tone leather as the next owner would not be impressed.
thats got me thinking as I've specified red/black !
whats the view of the forum on this? will it look shyte in a years time??

Autocar talk rubbish, no way will you get your £1500 back on the nav when you sell it.
Ive ordered red/black cos I like it, and Im sure someone else will like it when I come to sell it. Keep it clean and it will look fine.
This is also being discussed here.....https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...4&pagenumber=1

Mark's right - dont bother with Autocars opinion.
Get sat nav becuase you want it or need it, not because it might up residuals.
.. and as for black or red/black.. order what you want and enjoy!!
Cheers
Murphy
PS I went for plain black! :D

Also got the GPS Nav because I'm a basic techie geek and I love gadgets like that. I use it all the time and to hell with residuals. Your gonna pay 1500 for something that'll be obsolete technology in 2 years and get you back maybe 300? Not a wise investment decision. But get it cuz you'll use it!

black leather but no sat nav,
the two tone leather was not available when I ordered mine, and i didn't want to risk delaying my car.
the red seems to divide opinion, i don't think it looks the greatest from outside, but inside (when all you can see are the wheel and door panels) i think it would brighten up the interior.
I would be tempted if you could get the door panels and wheel as a no cost option, (assuming you've alrerady got the leather) but i doubt that'll ever happen.

I'm another 2-tone leather without sat-nav.
The sat-nav will boost residual values, but not by £1500. Optional extras depreciate faster than the cars they are in. Expect to get about £500 more for a sat-nav car after 2 years than a non sat-nav. That's not based on any real data, so shoot me down if you wish.
The 2-tone leather comes down to personal taste. There will be fewer people out there who want to buy a second-hand car with that colour scheme, but I reckon that those that do want it will search out the available cars. Don't think it will affect values at all.

ordered black/red leather, nav is standard in Spain.
I agree with others in the thread, don't order the nav for boosting residual values (it's not an investment), buy it if you like...

This...

Amazed me...
Can you imagine what sort of improvements will come out in navigation systems over the next 3 to 5 years. Your built on SatNav will be like a valve radio when you sell your car. Just buy it if you want it.
And since when did journalists have good taste? Why would so many people love the red and black interiror now, only to hate it in two years?
Who are you buying the car for, you or the next guy.
Just get what you're going to enjoy - we could all be dead in a year!!!

the way i took the article is that everybody knows you never recoup what you shell-out on extras so the implication is that satnav will lose you less compared to other accessories.
with regard to the red/black leather, nobody could persuade me to change to black but cos it looks 'fresh and sporty' now, will it look less 'fashionable' in 12/24 months
who knows...makes no difference to me I'm just looking forward to a car that revs the same as my GSX1400!!:D

Although I wasn't too sure to start with the American pictures posted within the gallery have vindicated my decision.

No sat nav and black only, no pimp van this.
In another article by some very respected motor journalist the red/ black combi was descibed in a rather unflattering nature.

I ordered velocity red with black leather, because I didn't like the red/black interior on the pictures I'd seen, but it is hard to tell what the colour that red really is - in one of the new brochures it looks really good.
I am worried that black will be too dark. It's a shame the dashboard is so black - a bit more aluminium trim would have brightened it up a bit.

I've gone for the red/black leather combo with the velocity red. Would go all the way with more red leather in the interior if the prices for the accessories weren't so bloody ridiculous.
