Prodrive Track Day

Not seen it mentioned in here, but I received a call from Mazda a few days back to arrange my Prodrive session.

They had a date in Dec, and two in Jan (19th and 20th).

Sounds like more will be arranged. They are sending me details in the post about it, but its using your own car (which I am a bit unsure about).

I'm booked for the 15th Dec, as I have a day of holiday before xmas. Using all next years for a month in Australia!

Cheers

I called today about it as my dealer hadnt mentioned it but I read it on the mazdauk site. The chap i spoke to said that they will pretty much be booking dates right through to about June. Didnt realise it was your own car though - that is a bit worrying - but hell it'll be fun :-)

one question for you guys - were you pre-order customers from like january?

now if only they would deliver mine........

The UK RX8 Owners Club is arranging with Mazda to hold a number of special Prodrive Days for club members only to allow members to meet up with each other.

The Prodrive day on the 15th December (that i was booked on) has been cancelled - I'm told because of 'insufficient numbers'

Anyone else been fobbed with the same excuse ?

I'm very angry that they gave us this day 'worth £500' - but now we don't get it till next year

It's supposed to cover safe driving and maintainane - are these not things we need to know about when we collect the cars (or very soon after) rather than 3 months down the line ?

If i was cynical i might think that they dangled this carrot to stop people cancelling their pre-order after interminable delays - to then whip it away - and deliver it as late (and therefore cheap) as possbile.

Why does the 'one-to-one' tuition require groups of 'no more than 30' drivers ?

I'm guessing its the truth - very short notice and just before Christmas. I certainly didn't fancy it.

I'll be on the RX8 Owners Club one too but would rather wait until spring and better weather. If the forecasters are to believed, the 1st quarter 2004 is going to be nasty.....

From what people have said getting tuition in the rain might be the best thing to do?

They've phoned me today to say the Dec 15th date is cancelled, so now I'll have to use one of the three days holiday I have spare next year instead - BUGGER

I'm not sure waiting until Spring is an option, I got the impression they want to get us all out of the way in about 10 days starting Jan 19th.

Cheers

My dealer (Liverpool) mentioned to me that the track day would be at my local circuit (Oulton Park) Has anyone else had remarks like this off their dealer? I would much rather go to Oulton than Banbury.

I was booked in on the December on e as well, but was told it was cancelled due to lack of numbers.

I am now going on the 24th January! Very excited about the whole thing! Wet or not, at least if it's wet they'll be less wear o the tyres!!

Only problem is I haven't received any information from Prodrive yet. They are very helpful if you call them up, but they say that Mazda are causing them delays... No surprise there then! As far as I can tell the Day takes place in Kenilworth, Warwickshire on Prodrives own test track, where they tweak all those mad World Rally Ipreza's.

It would be good to know if anyone else is going to be at Prodrive on the 24th?

I'm going 19th and I have had a letter from them with info - but there isn't really much info in there to be honest.

Theres a scan of it by someone over on the UK Owners Club forum.

There is no indication how long these will be running for but I am aware that they are on the 19th and 20th and 24th just from this thread. maybe there is a limited period. If every new buyuer will get one they will be very busy in the spring and summer.

You buy the car, Prodrive talk to Mazda about the owners
Prodrive contact new owners and invited to track
usually a couple of months from purchase of car.

Got my Prodrive day arranged for tomorrow but got a nasty shock when phoning for insurance.

Competition insurance do it for £155 plus £2,400 excess !!!
Trackdays insurance do it for £185 plus £2,000 excess !!!

Yup, you read it correctly, thats 2 grand excess for 3 hours driving when you are not racing (your standard insurance covers the rest of the day as its on public roads).

Some of the others are not going to bother to get insured but would you really go flat out with that risk?

Anyone else done the Prodrive day with a more sensible quote?

The amazing thing is that Mazda insurance sont cover it as they say it isnt Mazda running it ... its Prodrive.

BTW I am over 30 with 10 years no claims and no accidents as if it makes a difference. Teenagers need not bother applying ;o)

I would be interested in what others have found.

Cheers

Mike
