Parking in public

Guys,

Just some input needed to calm my nerves.

I am now really looking forward to the arrival of the 8 having allowed Mazda's delays not to annoy me any longer although my car is apparently loosing £500 in part-ex value every month.

Once delivered I will be parking the 8 in a station car park in south London (well lit with camera's) all day from 7 to 7. Is anybody else parking their car in public and what is their attitude to leaving such a startling new and initially rare car in such a public place for so long in the dark (in winter)?

A friend of mine suggested that it could be stolen to order and be out of the counbtry before I get to work whilst my wife thinks that its nothing to worry about as my TTC has been unmolested in the same car park.

Any input. I nearly cancelled at one point because of this issue and only the positive test drive reports (and Mr Rogers of course) kept me going.

Well, the RX8 is a new and good looking car, but its no Porsche or Ferrari or Lamborghini.....I'm guessing you should be fine, unless you happen to have a lot of rotary maniacs around there

Least you don't work in the car crime capital of the UK - Sunderland

To be honest, I am more worried that some stupid git will "key" mine

Hmmm..

TTs are still well known for being stolen to order. If you've had no problem with that then I doubt that you'll have a big problem with the '8.

And again, if someone was going to key/damage your RX-8 out of jealousy, I would have expected your TT to have suffered just as much..

Think a car cover in a station car park will highlight the car even more with curiousity bringing its own problems.

Mazda saying £20,500 now with £500 reduction per month. They will lend me a car free from October until delivery should I sell early. But I don't really want to sell before I have driven the 8 in case I want to keep the TT but as I don't expect delivery until January due to my change of order I will loose another £1500 by then!!

I may have to bite the bullet and sell and hope the 8 measures up. Seems you were keen after your test drive. Can you give me some more comfort coming from the TT?

Rael,

I drove the Hi-Powered RX8 today and it was fantastic - if you don't like it I would be really surprised !! Smooth acceleration 80+ easily in 3rd and holds the road brilliantly. Have faith sell the TT now !!

I`m having a tracker fitted. They contact you on your home/mobile phone number the minute your car moves without your authorisation. Call the cops, get a crime number, and they can start the tracking process, they seem to have a good success rate for recovery esp. before any damage is done.

Point the pretty end away from people .....

From behind it looks like a Puma, so they should just walk by

As my first new car i am also worried about "keying" .

However my biggest worry is other people knocking their doors into my shiny new 8 in the car park. I know that I'm going to be paranoid about parking it anywhere.

On holiday last month returned to car on carpark to find shopping trolley hugging car and couple of days later returned to find mirror knocked off!!

Think I need an alarm that shouts at people to "back off" when they get too close!!
