Hurrah

Great news!

We still need some more members or potential RX8 purchasers from somewhere!

Looks like we're few in numbers but plenty to say.

ROLL ON JULY/AUGUST when we can post pics of our own RX8's

Finally the Brits have out-chatted another nation. It must be a new record.

So who are you all then? I am curious to see how many buyers are really interesting in using the rear seats and how many just want a flash car.

To start the ball rolling I am 35 with no kids or dogs and hence no need for rear seats.

Most of the time I only use the car for a weekly supermarket run, so an RX-8 will be a gross indulgence. Having said that I am (for the time being) commuting from east London to Heathrow every day (ugh!). I had just test-driven a Cooper S and a Clio 172 when the pricing came out for the RX-8. It looked too good to miss.

My current car is a VR6, owned for the last six years or so. Still running perfectly well. Am just bored with it. I also have a 50% share in an ex-race Caterham, which is only used for track days and the odd blast around London (it is a bit mad for road use).

Yours banally
Simon.

The Oilman is:

42, happily married with two children 10 & 8. Living in the middle of nowhere in a sleepy Cornish backwater.

Self employed "oilman" whose wife runs a Jeep Grand Cherokee as the family "truckster". Handy for those occassional snowy Cornish mornings but not my cup of tea.

Currently running a 12month old VW Beetle 1.8t (gti eq) fully loaded and interesting but just not exciting enough in those country lanes on the way to work 20 mins. Not fast enough for my quarterly meetings in London/Birmingham either.

Have been looking for the "compromises" of RX8 for some years
and considered Audi TT (too small inside), BMW 330 3 series coupe (too many about and too darn expensive!) amongst many others but, RX8 just hits the spot for me.

It's time to enjoy life, work hard and play harder!

Oh, Hobbies - Golf, Music, Painting, Scale models and work as I'm self-employed.

Cheers

Fair enough -

30 , not officially married , although 10 years must count for something these days....
No kids yet , no dogs.

Work in IT , but that just beings in the cash. Petrol head at heart.
Change cars quite alot , built kit car , enjoy bikes too , especially motocross style.
Do a bit of kart racing - would like to do more but real life gets in the way.

Reason for RX8 ? Total rotary addict. Caught the bug ~18 and although I have only owned 1 RX7 I love the things ! 6'3" tall so cannot fit in a 3rdgen RX7.
I have many books and have been following the whole RX01 , RXelvolve thing carefully. The RX8 is the perfect answer I think.
I mean we all hope there is a 'real' RX7 coming but the all round appeal of the RX8 is hard to ignore.

Interestingly (or not - you decide) I was not looking to buy an RX8. Two factors -firstly I adore my typeR. (9,000rpm in a piston engine car sounds kinda fruity too) and secondly I assumed it would be £25K base and £27K loaded with the options.
This put it out of my justification range.
When the £21,995 loaded (I exclude leather and sat-nav - not for me) it was a done deal.

I think the price is a masterstroke.

So there you are - 30yo , rotary anorak petrolhead, too excited for words at the prospect of rotary goodness in my everyday car !

Morgan.

I am still 41 and will have the car as a substitute for a true 2 seat sports car. I like other cars too but I am mesmerized by the new rotary. I must have one. :D

So I ordered the nordic green but may still switch to titanium until the official sales prospect is released which is expected to come out in the middle of February. I like the elegant green since a saw the racing green Jag XK 8 which is too cramped inside though. The RX 8 prototype I sat in was much larger. So the decision was easy - I had to order the RX instead of the XK - sorry boys from the island.

The titanium looks very cool too and so I am a little undecided. Speaking against the titanium is the huge armada of silver SLs, SLKs, C-classes and all other types of rather boring cars here which all are silver. Silver grey however is great in respect of car washing. I don't like it and my wife doesn't like it either. My sons (just 14 and 18) will like it of course but I am wondering whether handing the car to my sons is really a good idea. The lingering question is however the leather interior. Which colors will come for the German market? The dealer still doesn't know. So any advise?

Cannot help with the interior options I am afraid...
Seems you are getting different options to the UK anyway - we cannot have the green.

We are only offered red, black, silver or gray. Cloth interior all appear to be black , leather interior also all black (unless you have the red in which case you can have red inserts) .

Or at least the above is my understanding...

What options in colour are available in Germany then ?

This is really a funny thing - my dealer does not really know. He received the previous specifications on January 11th by email and so we agreed upon the contract. The official sales prospect with all colors especially in respect of the interior however will not come before mid of February though. He beliefs to remember that Mazda told him that probably there will be the dark green, the titanium, the silver, and the yellow - so probably yes. Whether black, red, blue, and white - no clue. Consequently I preserverd the right to fix the color as soon as the prospect is out. The bad thing he told me is he beliefs that the leather will not be two coloured. I heavily doubt that since the newest car mag "Autobild" reported two options namaly black with red and black with grey as well. I 'll email Mazda Germany and ask them. I 'll report.

Well ... I wanted an RX7 from 16 so I guess I kinda sympathize.

Mind you , in those days you could leave your front door open , children respected their elders , you could get change and a loaf of bread for th'rupence-ha'penny...<etc><etc>.....

Actually - it's kinda cool.
If 14YO are aware of the vehicle maybe we can get some 'street-cred'...

Morgan.

This car is cool enough without having to gain "street cred"! Not many 14 year olds actually know about the Rx series and when I have shown people a pic of them they thought they were Ferraris or something.

Damn right !

I thought I was the only one who had noticed....

It would be nice if we could pass the time chatting about the masses of information that Mazda UK have lavished upon us in gratitude for our £1000 down 6 months before release.
Or am I dreaming again ?

Come on Mazda - Give us SOMETHING for our loyalty !

Question 1st of Feb Online!

I read somewhere that the "online" service will be up on 1/2/03,
that's Saturday, we'll see!

I wonder if they'll cater for those of us who have already deposited £1000?

Cheers

Oilman -

I suspect my dealer may well be getting a call before saturday then...
Bit disappointed so far - I know their hands are tied but he was supposed to be getting confirmation that I was indeed 'in the first 1000' and letting me know.
This he hasn't done - (2 weeks now).

I wonder if it is worth putting £1000 down on the website immediately as well and getting in there ?
It should be easy enough to 'explain' the situation to Mazda if you end up ordering 2 cars. They should have explained it better and made sure our dealers 'jumped' the online queue.

See what I mean ? What do you think ?
