Can someone who's been through the process of putting a personalised plate on their new baby, tell me what the process is, I'm a first timer with fancy plates... do I just give the V750 to my dealer or is there more to it than that?

I just gave the form to my dealer several weeks in advance and that was that, although I know a few people have had problems and had to pick up their cars with a temporary plate.

I did it myself in the end, it was getting complicated. My car had to be registered and insured on a '53' plate first so I could drive it away, I part ex'd my old car which had my plate on.
I took the V-thingy form to my local DVLA office, together with the V5 from the old vehicle and MOT, and the V5 for the RX-8. The dealer had already indicated which bits I had to sign. At the DVLA they just ran the whole lot through a computer, and printed 2 new tax discs for both cars, and they stamped up the MOT. They gave me forms to allow me to get plates made up (there are some stricter laws now on getting them made). I just put on the new plates on the same day, and called my insurance company to notify the change of plate (essential!), and they charged me accordingly....
The dealer can do all this but I decided it was best to do it in my own time and space, its less complicated logistically.
Think thats covered everything.

I'm interested in getting a private reg. and have a few Qs:
Is this V750 form what you actually receive when you order the reg from the DVLA?
How long does it take from ordering to receiving this form?
From the above reply, I then just give this to my dealer, and he will sort everything out?
Thanks.

..When I went to Reading last week to put mine on my car, I took
the V750 form
the V5 form
the tax disc
I had already had the assignment fee paid (as I presume you do too, otherwise you would need that too. I think its all on the back of the V750 form isn't it? Also I found it a LOT easier to get the car registered first and then assign it. That way, you get two sets of plates from your dealer plus a chance to drive around in a 53 plate first and then put the cherished one on.
In Reading, they give you a new disc plus let you keep the old one - they've got a new system that cancels the first one immediately so you can't get your dosh back on it, but also allows you to drive round with the old disc until you get it done. They take the top part of the V5 too and stamp the bottom part with the new reg on it for you to keep (in case the police need to see proof until the new V5 turns up).
MUCH easier to do in person - agree with JonH
