Jag R-d6

Just read a short article in the Daily Mail on this new car;

- 155 mph
- 6 seconds to 60
- twin-turbo diesel with 50 mpg

AND suicide doors like the 8. Interior to be luxurious with a estimated price at £25k.

Sounds like a competitor to me.

And a good one! Far better mileage, better performance (though handling yet to be confirmed!), and dare I say it better looks? (certainly at the rear)...

Shall I cancel my order now? ... lol

The Le Mans Quattro sounds interesting too. 3.9 to 60 and 651bhp was it?

I know...

BUT! It'll have torque by the bucket-load, and probably 155+mph (restricted?)

And it does look quite nice. Maybe they'll do a petrol version? :-/

Sorry, no facilities to copy picture but looks the bollocks, front and back and sits very low (4ft 6" high). Must say diesel does not worry me that much with such performance figures and mpg and price make it very attractive alternative. No idea about release date yet but even if in the planning stage may arrive before our 8's!.

Not taken someone long to copy the rear doors either so the 8 must be on to something.

Looks like it's only a concept car. If I've done the link correctly it's described here :-

Girl who works with me, her boyfriend designed the back of the car and some side bits (apparently various designers are awarded different parts of the car to design). She advises that this is a show car only out for the 1st time in Frankfurt and may be built depending on demand.

They could have my £1000 now it look so good.

Also, link by Glynnb is to the Jag R Coupe (2 door) so presumably this is a number of versions on from that original.

knowinf ford/jag it'll stay as a prototype. There great at producing show cars, but never have the cash or the courage to go through with the motor.

If Jag cant even afford to do an X-Type R this wont see the roads and def not at £25k.

If at all, it'll be a replacement of the XK8 based on the DB9 chassi and retail for £40-60k

Why all the slaggin off of diesel engines. I would have thought that with all us rotor heads it would recieve praise.

I would have one, especially with the amount of torque that the engine kicks out.

Amazing engine and car I say!

Because desils are NOT sporty.

And torque = not sporty.

Rotory =/= desil. Opposite ends of the spectrum!

Rotary = low/flat torque, high reving, fast/free revving.

Desil = low revving, lots of torqe, slow nasty revving.

Yes desils pull like mad, which is why there in trucks. But there not applicable to sports cars IMO.

200kg more than the rx-8, and its aluminium construction.

I'd love for Jag to make a decent sports car again, but as I said , this is just a prototype, and I cant see it getting anywhere near production speced like that for £25k.

Huh ?
What on earth has that got to do with anything ?
Why would rotorheads like a diesel ?

I think when the RX-8 was at the showcar stage (RX Evolve) it was supposed to produce 280 hp. And only a year ago it was supposed to have a top speed limited to 155 mph. Who knows what the Jaguar specs will be when/if it finally get's into production (probably end up as something front wheel drive based on a Mondeo).

Besides, I think all that wood/leather interior stuff sounds horrible.

Wink

Seems to me that I shall be getting the RX8 and after 2 years, when Jag have this on the road, then consider a switch.

As pointed out earlier, the car will not be produced as seen but is meant only as a showcar pointing out the direction of Jags designs. Bits of it will find themselves on updated models of existing cars.

Pity I think as it did look great and I for one do like a bit of wood luxury inside the cabin.

Twin-turbo diesel engine in a sports car ? :o

Aluminum body AND 1550Kg ?

Aluminum, wood, leather AND 25K ? :p

And it has stolen the idea of the Start button from the Murcielago....

Sorry, this aint gonna happen, and if it does, it'll cost a lot more than 25K.......

I was thinking the same. If they can get anywhere near 50mpg and still do 0-60 in 6 secs then it'll be awesome! With high UK fuel prices, environmental issues, and a limited supply of fossil fuels, the more MPG the better. Mind you, if Mazda has this baby on the road by then...
Concept Car (as per link posted a few posts back) For some reason it reminded me of the 1930's Flash Gordon TV series.

Simply because it's an innovative engine. How many diesel engines do you know f that can knock out 500nM of torque and develop at 0-60 time of 6 seconds?

It will feel alot quicker than the Rx-8 and have quicker 30-50 times without a doubt.

.. the car is 'vapourware'..... forget-about-it.

Concepts are meant to taunt us. Otherwise I would be driving the achingly beautiful RX-01 by now.... (sigh)
