Insurance
Hi all. I have been doing a CONSIDERABLE amount of research into the RX8 and now most of my informational resources is from this site. What I have not read or found so far is insurance rating of this car. I am seriously considering purchasing this car, the only thing that concerns me is the insurance. Now Im 21 (well 22/23 when i purchase the car) and have, by july 25th, 4 years no claims bonus but i do have 3 points on my license (caught speeding on the motorway in sept. 2001). Just wondering if any of you would hazard a guess at what i would be lilkely to pay for fully comp insurance on an RX8. By the way, I live in the UK. Oh and one more thing, I am looking at the 240bhp model
Cheers
[PS if you are curious as to the speed I was caught doing, just ask...if not, nevermind btw, this was done in a 1 litre suzuki swift, and i can scan the ticket in for your amusement.]
Cheers

Well I am 30 and it costs £1000 to insure a Honda Integra with full no claims, clean license etc... (and most companies would not even quote).
22 years old , 3 points and an RX8 ? hmmmm.
Where to start ? 5K ? 10K ?
I remember a quote from years ago on an escort cossie for a 22YO and it was £20K. (as much as the car).
Let us know what you get....

d'oh..
Talked to a mazda dealer and he said the insurance wouldnt be as high as I might expect it to be. Said that most claims are from passenger injuries and the fact that the chassis of the rx8 is damn stiff and shed loads of airbags should reduce insurance premiums. But he did say that insurance companies wont quote until roughly about may/june time. Anyhow, thanks for your reply. Oh and one more thing, dont know where the mr2 falls, but my friend has one and pays under £600 a year fully comp and he's 24 with points on his license too. (you can see a pic of me in his car at www.face-pic.com/jklsemicolon ) Damn nice car to drive :D

Apparently you can bump the high power model up a group just because the Xenon headlights are so expensive to replace if you run into the back of a slower car (most of them!)

Just sold my Subaru Impreza Turbo (gp18) and am 25 years old with 3 years ncb. Was paying £1100 Fully Comp with loads of mods declared.
I reckon that the RX-8 will be in gp 15-16 category so I should be paying a similar amount come July.
As for you I would consider getting a Yugo Zastava 45 or something of that ilk.
I know it's not what you want to hear but at 21 how can you expect to drive/insure a brand new 250bhp car at a reasonable price?

It's an extremely low powered (45bhp) car from Yugoslavia which resembles a shoebox.
It is quite possibly one of the worst cars EVER to be manufactured. It's probably very low insurance too :D

Hate to be the bearer of bad news sKy^WiNGzErO but ive currently got a MR2 roadster and its Group 11 insurance. Not sure how much your insurance will be but you can bet your bottom dollar (if you have any left) that the RX8 will be nowhere near Group 11.

hahahaha, nice one contigo :D that made me chuckle, thanks mate I know that my mate who has the mr2, is 2 years older than me and he pays about £600 fully comp (not sure on his ncb and i believe he has 3 points on his license too). But if the insurance is too much, then I will have to post here only as an rx8 owner-wannabe (at last i find quite possibly the most practicle, unique and sporty car and i may not be able to insure it!)

I'm hoping that the insurance should be around the same as for a 225BHP Audi TT.
That makes it very affordable for a 33 year old with full no claims and no points :D

I'm on my wife's insurance for our imported RX-7 - rated Group 18 by Direct Line. 6 years protected no-claims, 3 points (me:D), fully comp, early 30's, safe area of Surrey comes in at about £1000. I'd expect the RX-8 to be a lower group but not much - 16 sounds about right.
