Hot & Cold
Hot & Cold
Don't know about you guys but I am really blowing hot and cold about the RX8.
I get quite negative about the RX8 everytime I talk to the dealers who know nothing and Mazda Uk who promise and don't deliver. The 3500 car number seems too high for me compared to the Z and Crossfire supply coming in which may cheapen the 8 name. And the old issue of torque remains unresolved with me. I think the main problem is that I have actually not seen one, or sat in one.
But then I get a high when I read (re-read) most of the reports on the car, about smooth free reving engine, great gearbox and see the superb looks. Especially from someone who has sat in the car. It does seem that the car in person is far more impressive than the pictures; smaller, curvier, meatier....saying all the right things.
I really need to see this car now, the talking has to stop.

Well said!!
To be honest, I'm trusting my instincts however I would dearly like to see or drive one before mine arrives.
I suppose at the end of the day, I've lost £100 if it doesn't work out and that's a small price to pay really.
Chin up and lets hope Mazda are reading this.
Cheers

Im in total agreement on that one.
Because of the lack of information and updates, plus the negative about potential oversupply of cars, I am getting cold at the moment. I also know the torque issue wont be clear in my head until I drive it. I always said I wouldnt buy another new car unless I was sure it will hold its value, which I thought the 8 would do, but now I have my doubts.
However, like you say, when I read positive reviews and see new pics it gets me going again.
Its going to be a long 3-4 months now.
I do wish I had put a deposit on a 350Z now, if only as a security.

RX-8:
FOR:
1. Turbine like power.
2. Superb audio system.
3. Sat-Nav (if you want it, I do!).
4. Good handling.
5. Audio controls on steering wheel.
6. Good looks.
7. Nice interior.
8. £4.5K less than the equivalent spec
350Z.
9. Quiet and smooth ride.
10. Reasonable fuel consumption.
11. Ability to carry 3 passengers as required.
12. Reasonable cargo space.
13. X-Men 2
AGAINST:
1. Low torque (may not be an issue
because of rotary characteristics,
still has more torque than my Rover
214 and that moves up hills easily
with three passengers).
2. Strange looks (take your pick).
3. Excessive weight for size.
4. Mazda UK are rubbish.
5. Resale value (perhaps).
6. Parts and maintenance (see item 4).
7. Straight line speed (if it matters to
you).
8. Handbrake.
9. Auto emergency braking (maybe:
see related thread).
10. Formula Wimmin.
11. Seeing one with kids in the back
seat and a 'Baby On Board' sticker.
350Z
FOR:
1. Looks.
2. Torque.
3. Straight line speed.
4. Handling.
5. Engine sound.
6. Only two seats.
7. Rarity.
8. Resale value.
9. No 'Baby On Board' sticker.
10. Cruise control.
11. Ray's 18" alloys!
AGAINST:
1. Looks (take your pick).
2. Engine sound.
3. Only two seats.
4. Potentially awful audio system (UK
model may have this fixed!)
5. Cabin noise.
6. Cheap interior plastics (UK model
may have this fixed!).
7. Rear visibility (virtually none).
8. NO Sat-Nav. DOH!
9. Looks like a toned Audi TT.
10. £4.5K more than an RX-8.
11. Appalling fuel consumption.
12. Known problems with US model
(window grease smears, odd smell
from engine, excessive tyre wear,
paint chipping too easily, lousy
stereo: all probably fixed for UK).
You pays your money and you takes your choice gentlemen (and ladies)!

Hmmm, the 'Mazda UK Tells Lies' thread has been closed (a little heavy handed Sputnik, this is important to us you know!) but in answer to the question therein asking whether it was just the UK being shafted then please read this:

Well if the interior is anywhere NEAR what I have seen in pictures I'm all for it!
I had only saw the Mazda 6 in pictures until last weekend, I was "cold" on the Mazda 6, looks ok but that's about it.
I walked into a dealership took at look at the face of the 6 and was impressed to start. Opened up the doors and WOWWIE I WANT, almost. If it wasn't for the 8 I think I would get a 6. The car was VERY roomy, HUGE trunk excellent looking interior and it feels well built.
My girlfriend LOVED the car as well almost immediately.
