Commited... <gulp>

Well - the deed is done.

I am now £1000 poorer and guaranteed to be in the first 1000 RX-8 bound for the UK !

Have the Mazda order form in front of me and will be kept up to date with developments.

Just thought I would share the good news !
So I will have to adjust my sig to read "2004 High Power Titanium/Cloth" or similar I guess !

WooHoo ! Roll on July/August...

Morgan.

Order How?

Good news but how did you get the form?

Was it sent to you or available on the web.

Thanks

Hi Oilman...

Went to my dealer and went through the info he had from Mazda.
It matched what I had learned on this site -

I explained about the web-based pre-order scheme and they said that they could guarantee me a unit if I ordered through them. Seems that it is in their interests to place the order themselves so they get the unit rather than MazdaUK dish them out centrally (figures I suppose).

Interestingly he had been holding 2 x £250 deposits since way before the pre-order scheme was announced.
Mine was the first £1000 solid deposit.

I have the mazda order sheet and receipt etc - so it is official !
Good enough for me.

You going to do the same ?

Morgan.

Order

Thanks for info.

Shall be emailing my Dealer and calling tomorrow as the £1000 has been burning a hole in my pocket for too long!

Still not decided on colours but, lets get the order in anyway.

Thanks again

Interior Options?

Morgan,

Just curious.

What interior colour options were you offered on

Silver
Titanium
Red

Have they been decided here?

Thanks

Have seen nothing -

The dealer does not have any info that I have not seen on these forums (in fact I have probably seen more)

He had a sheet of text from Mazda 'control' detailing what colours etc , but as to whether it said anything about combos I am afraid I do not know.

The order form is not an RX8 special form - there are none (yet?)
It is a 'Mazda Vehicle Order' form - on the trim sections he has written TBC (To Be Confirmed). The only details are 'RX8 High Power Titanium' )

As soon as I hear more I shall post it.
Let me know how you get on with yours...

Morgan.

I'll race you to it - I have ordered titanium/cloth too!

Dropped in at my dealer on Saturday to have a look at the various colours on the forecourt. He had taken two more deposits the previous day (bringing his total to 7). He is (apparently) one of the country's biggest dealers and is hoping to get hold of 40 RX-8s this year.

They must be delighted to be making so much easy money. He doesn't even know when his demo car will be arriving yet.

Hope you read the 4car review - it looks very good indeed (phew - what a relief).

My understanding is that there is only one colour option in cloth. However he is expecting to be getting samples of interior and exterior colours within the next 10 days or so. The leather looks...err...interesting - some of the panels seem to be done in a ribbed texture (see the press site link via the photo forum).

Congrats Simon !

Yep - read the 4car review , and it looks great. As you say - <phew!>

London huh ? Well I am in Herts - so that is the 7 at your dealer and the 3 at mine (although I am the only confirmed).

I read somewhere that in the last year the RX7 was sold in the UK they sold 25 of them ! Not very impressive.... But then the price was ridiculous. Looks like Mazda have learned their lesson.

Did your dealer tell you there is going to be some sort of incentive (like the car is not enough) for the first 1000 UK sales ? He did not have details but said that it may be something like trips to 'LeMans' or similar. Could be interesting.

I hope the cloth option is dark....
Check the photos of the Titanium car on Rotarynews - mmmmm it's so beautiful.....

Congrats on taking the plunge (still mulling over this one after my last experience..).

Saw the 4car review as well - looks superb! Asked the local dealer here - but they didn't know much about the cars - which was disappointing. They guessed at allocation (~300 for UK in 03, ~450 pa afterwards - 4car indicates more?).

He also thought there would be no dealer demo cars - you pay your money and get a car when it's available (1st come, 1st served througout the UK - so no dealer allocation as such).

He seemed to think once you'd paid the deposit it probably wasn't refundable as it goes to Mazda (should you have to cancel - does this square with your understanding?)

Anyway - good luck - did you get much of a confirmed date or is it very much unknown (heard the August date might come fwd slightly?).

Thankyou !
More I read , happier I am....

As for the 350 for 2003 , sounds low to me.
Given that there is an incentive (rumoured) for the first 1000 pre-orders I would have thought that there would be 1000 cars pretty damn soon...

No definitive dates yet. Best they could offer was 'late July/Early August'

Dealers dont seem to know much at the moment.
If you want juicy info download the press kit (all 80 pages of it).
Should satisfy most petrol heads I think...

Quick post…fresh from another chat…

Deposits refundable until ~15/6 – 1 month before launch in UK - & (approx) timing of 1st batch arrival. After that it’s fixed.

There’s an admin charge if you want a refund through website (if you paid that way), presumably going through dealer avoids this?

Maintains UK allocation for 03 is ~300…???

Consistent with the August delivery for the first batch!

Also maintains no dealer demo cars - press only...?

Confused?

Well if the 300 is true - I am certainly glad I got in so early !

The agonizing bit is going to be the wait for information now...

I called in to my local dealers today, they didnt know that much at this stage but the sales manager is going to a dealer conference in Barcelona next week and says he should find out more then.

He told me the £1000 deposit IS refundable, until you get to see/drive a car and then decide whether you want to cancel.

He also told me they will be getting 2 cars that they can either put on demo or sell straight away, which seems to contradict previous posts.

They also said their allocation was 10 cars for this year (not sure rif that includes the 2 above).

Also colours were confirmed at Red/Silver/Titanium/Black only to start off. Leather is black or black/red in red car.

They also told me the allocation for this year which I have now forgot (Doh!) but I remember next year was 5000, and they seemed confident demand would outstrip supply for a fair while.

They are going to call me next week with more details.

Forgot to add, it was mentioned that a driving day at Prodrive MAY be included with pre-orders, though it was not definate at this stage as it was still being decided by the powers that be.

Ordered Mine!!

Hi Guys,

Seen my Dealer today who lightened my wallet of £1000!!

I'm the first to order in Cornwall and will have my car before he has a demonstrator if he's lucky in second batch!

My colours exterior and interior are TBC at this stage, same as Morgan as we are all not sure of colour combinations for UK.

At this stage they are saying that my prefered Black/Red interior combination is only available on the Red car. All others i.e. Silver, Titanium and Black are cloth or black leather ONLY!! I'm finding this hard to swallow as U.S. options are much better.
I wanted Titanium or Silver with Red/Black Combination, Sob!!

Allocations for UK 2003 are 3500 total between 157 Dealers, they expect to sell them all but not at a premium which is why MAZDA are not letting any sit on forecourts demo or not. They are determined to make this car the bargain of 2003/4.

Anyway, if you have a vehicle order form and laid deposit, your Dealer will still need to submit your details through their website to confirm your order and this is still first come first served! Let's not get too excited yet as our Dealers still have work to do.

I really can't wait now, 6 months is going to seem like 6 years!!

Anyone who learns anymore, please post, especially on trim.

Cheers

Oilman

Fair enough - only quoting the answers to the questions I'd asked (& they asked RX-8 contacts at MUK) re the deposits.

UK allocation certainly sounds more believable at 3500.

Back to one of the more established dealers for more info next time...

Good luck with the wait.

Yay ! Well done oilman !
I know what you mean - the wait will be agonizing...
Still - I have to sell my current car yet , that will be tricky to judge timing wise...

Thanks also for the info regarding the Mazda dealer having to do some work via the website.
I will chase to make sure they are aware of this.
Question is , do they have their own dealer only website that enables them to place their orders first...
i.e. when the fabled pre-order website opens will they be in the scrum with everyone else or do they get to place their orders for the £1000 they have already received first , and then the remaining allocation is allowed open to the public ?

See what I mean ? Dont really expect you to know the answer - just sort of thinking out loud really.

2 Other points - How many threads do we have to post to rise from 'Junior' to 'grand wizard' or similar.
Secondly 0 I cannot help but notice we are only 10 threads behind the canadians in terms of regional posts. Maybe more will come on line soon and put us in the lead ....

Morgan.

Ordering

Morgan,

I'm of the opinion that there will only be one channel for ordering hence the dealer will be in the scrum as well! Maybe you can confirm otherwise.

It does appear to me MAZDA are determined to ensure that the Dealers don't overprice the car ensuring its success.

Let's keep digging, we'll get there in the end!

Regards

Oilman
