The Champagne Test...

I attended a very pleasant evening at my local dealership tonight where three RX-8s were on display and the dealer car was open for inspection. One demonstration got my attention:

A champagne flute was filled and placed on the top of the red car's Renesis. The engine was then started and revved up to 6000rpm. There wasn't a ripple or shake of the champagne. Smooth as greased silk.

I thought that a penny standing on the engine block was the traditional test in the UK.

This was an impromptu idea and I imagine that the liquid is more sensitive than a balanced coin anyway. It was also the first time I've heard the engine for real so a double plus!

Ha! Good question. This happened as I was leaving the showroom (in fact I was out of the door and suddenly heard the engine start which prompted me to about turn - I stayed just long enough to watch the test) so I've no idea. It was good Champagne too and I couldn't have any because I was driving. Ironic that the car got some and not me.

It would be very nice after all the waiting we have done, if the dealer left a bottle in the boot when you pick up your car, so you can christen it properly once you get home.

Cheers

...but then you couldn't go out in the car again that evening? As soon as I get the car I will be be going on a self imposed alcohol free spell in case Iget the urge in the middle of the night to go and drive it!

I don't think you'll be going straight home after you've picked up the car, expect to be in very late!
