Cancelled mt Pre-Order

Why was this scrapped, I can see no obvious duplicate on the European site or are we afraid of reality checks?

We must all admit that since the highs of ordering in Jan on spec and reports available at that time, the world and the 8 has changed. Not all negative but enough information has come out for us to re-question our choice and ever growing waiting time. It is understandable that some without sufficient enthusiasm in the first place pull out but others are only still waiting because the risk remains a paltry £100. If it was £1000 at risk I may have also gone by now I think.

One additional annoying point of this delay is that my car, which I will offer as part exchange or sell privately, is worth less and less as time trundles on whilst I have a strange feeling that some of the accessories will be quiet expensive and hard to refuse. Also, it may be that a tracker is required for such a new car and that will add further costs.

With £100 at risk I'm staying but taking my rose-tinted glasses off.

Your existing car may be depreciating, but its likely to be at a much less rate than the RX8 would depreciate over the same time if you had it!

The car is still seriously good value for money and looks great.

Quibbling over a few bhp seems silly to me. Its all specs on paper and you're unlikely to notice the very small difference. Are people really that bothered that some souped up hatchback may have slightly more bhp or 0.1s faster 0-60 time?

The car is fast and powerful. Its not, nor will it ever be the fastest or most powerful car.

With regards to the delivery time its out of your control so just accept (as I have) that it will arrive eventually, and you'll be at the top of the list. What difference does one, two, or three extra months make - really?!

The fact that people are so upset about the late delivery shows how much they want this car. Its this frustration that is causing people to question whether they made the right decision.

But look around - tell me one car that compares in looks, price, exclusivity, handling, and power?

With only £100 at risk I have not cancelled but if you read this forum you will find a lot of understandable frustration at how Mazda had dealt with pre-preorders and I appreciate that some who were not that keen initially may have had enough.

My point is that my purchase costs of the 8 (base cost & extras & insurance) is fixed and payable at some time in the future, presumably Sept. However my existing car value is depreciating monthly and the bridging finance is increasing accordingly.

Bridging finance increasing?! Rubbish. Its all down to how you manage your finances.

Work out what your monthly payment will be on the bridge and start saving this now every month that the RX8 is late (or the save the gap in existing finance on your old car to the new).

I guarantee that then spending this on a direct initial payment on the car will leave you better off than if you got the RX8 now.

Plus you have to remember that 3 years down the line (from now) your RX8 will be worth more as it will only have depreciated 34 months (or whatever) instead of 36.

Its easy to see your current car depreciating, but look at the big picture.

What a waste of a life and all I really wanted to be was a fireman (and the I could have a red motor!)

If we ever do have a meeting of 8's it should be really interesting to get face to face with some of our contributors!

Depreciation

Hey, guys don't be to harsh on him he's not been around for long, probably doesn't know everyone that well yet.

However, Gary, you did come across a bit strong in that last post.

Depreciation is not a problem I have to deal with thankfully.

An 11 year old MX-6 doesn't have that much further to drop in value.

Sorry didn't mean to come across too strong

Like a few others have mentioned it just seems people are trying to find problems. The car will be great, we just need to be patient.

I'm quite happy with my current car, but I've had it for 3 years. It's tme to change, but I can wait 2 or 3 months.

I don't care if the 8 loses a few BHP and doesn't beat an EVO to 60, it will always have 4 seats, a cool sound system and a 0-60 that is more than fast enough to at least feel sporty.

If the interior isn't quite perfect then so be it - I know I've gone for leather, so it should be good, but no car I've ever had has been spot on in every area - even ones like the BM's.

To be frank, the 8 will have to suddenly drop to under 200bhp and be reduced to 3 wheels for it to become my second choice. I need the practicality/sporty combo without needing an extreme on either of those.

how do you handle having such an old car, oh wait my 10yr old MX-6 is hardly a sprightly youth.

totally off topic, but i've just returned to glasgow after a day down visiting my folks, the drive back up the loch side at twilight was fabulous, not sure how much better the 8' is going to be, but I'm looking forward to finding out.
